After reading other reviews, something must’ve happened to this place. I came in to have a little breakfast and review some notes before a mtg. Chairs were still up on tables, the only food options were a smattering of pastries. Coffee was stale with powdered creamer. The lunch might be amazing but I won’t be back.

Fresh sandwiches, tamales and baked goodness all in one place, you can’t beat that! I have been there a few times before way back in the past, but looking for something different to eat on Fred Rd, I decided to update my visit. I had the Italian Stallion sandwich, which includes ham, salami and roasted red bell peppers. I really enjoyed it! I liked the bread, it definitely had some depth to it. I had a cookie for dessert, but they had these spiced cake sample and I kind of regret I didn’t get that instead. I will definitely be going back in the near future.

At least have lunch here once a week and my co workers and I love the place. It is a little pricey for lunch but you cant beat the freshness of the sandwiches and the fresh cookies for to die for.

First time. Came here based on Unilocal reviews and advertisement though I had heard or read about it and it’s noticeable weird name. Service was stilted and awkward with three young ladies all hovering around the register as I placed my order. I asked for a fountain drink and the cashier stated«we also have tea» and I said sure that’s fine, «do you have lemon?» And she said yes but there was no lemon and she didn’t get me any. The lids for the styrofoam cups were for coffee cups not soda so couldn’t cover my drink to take out. The baked goods were extremely spare in the case nothing like the pictures. It feels like they are on hard times. So the sandwich was good. I had the beef on a beer roll sans bacon and with added Swiss. The bread is toasted and the entire sandwich was delicious. So service and environment is one star, food adds three, so overall I say 4 stars.

I called on them to make a bread for my restaurant. I was skeptical at first but the finished product amazed me. The owner was pleasant and very friendly, they went out of their way to help me out. And the baker, well, the bread she made me was outstanding, for a short notice request she really came through. I look forward to doing business with them for a long time. And I now have no doubt she will be able to produce the other bread I asked for without fail. Thank you for your time and patience with my request. As for the rest of the crew, they were very friendly. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone.

Good sandwiches but there was no one in the deli and it took 25 minutes for us to get our food… very very slow service.

The BEST carrot ginger soup, ever. Never would have thought this would be so good, but its truly the best. I look forward to coming just for the soup, every time! A little disappointed with the new menu being much smaller & they took off my favorite egg salad sandwich, but the food was delicious, fresh, & service was pretty good. Delicious, but somewhat limited selection of desserts & baked goods, but they’re always very good. Very cute little place; always a treat!

Love this bakery! Perfect soup for cold weather! Had the potato soup that was amazing and my husband had the carrot ginger. Loved their sandwiches specially the once with the croissant. Really nice staff and really clean. For dessert my husband had a chocolate chip cookie, everything fresh and house baked. Perfect for some one that does not now how to bake and loves home made deserts. This is a San Antonio hidden gem!

Such a great place for lunch! Had the special salad, greens with fresh sliced green apple, honey walnuts, cranberries, and sliced carrots with feta cheese! Also had the jalapeño cheese kolache to fill me up… Definitely a winner, my bf had the club sandwich which he really enjoyed. Took some tamales home(black been /goat cheese, poblano/cheese) and I will definitely be going back for more! Tried the carrot ginger soup from a friend and also a great choice! Overall great menu, decent pricing and a wonderful experience!

The shop is under new management and after a bumpy transition(they are a bakery and were out of three types of bread for sandwiches during one visit) the food is back up to a high standard. Turkey melt and carrot soup are consistent and very tasty

Nicavid’s Bakery & Café makes some kick___baked goods! My wife asked me to take her here last week. Initially, I had reservations about this hole in the wall shop with the funny name but I’m glad my wife insisted. This café really won me over. While I haven’t had any of their sandwiches, I have had some of their baked goods and have been thoroughly impressed. More specifically, I have tried their croissants, turnovers, Danish, cookies, and kolaches. While I may not be the next guest judge on some reality culinary cook-off show, as a man of ample proportions, I am no stranger to all things savory and sweet. This is good stuff. The croissants are buttery and flaky, the Danish so sickly sweet, the cookies rich and full of flavor, and the turnover — forget about it! All of these items are prepared with love, and maybe lard. I’m joking of course as I have no clue how these baked goods are made. While I may not be a connoisseur of kolaches, I know what I like and I like these! The dough isn’t just some breading wrapped around a cheap sausage — this stuff is flaky and fantastic. And the sausage, well, it’s a real sausage with snap when you bite into it. They make three varieties: sausage, sausage and cheese, and a sausage jalapeño variety. If you don’t like Nicavid’s kolaches, there’s something wrong with your mouth — see a doctor! So, if you love kolaches, get to Nicavid’s, quick! If you’re more of a sweet-tooth, again, get to Nicavid’s. Their baked goods are out-frickin’-standing! I can’t speak to their lunch items like sandwiches and salads but if their baked goods are any indication, it’s worth a trip.

I was craving sweets so I decided to stop by and see why this place has 4+ stars… Apparently they’ve changed management and the place isn’t the same as before. Right when I looked at the employees they looked completely lost i.e. nubies, they were running into each other, had there orders all messed up… It took them 10 minutes to take my order and there wasn’t anyone in front of me. Finally had the chance to order, the lady recommended the Caramel brûlée, and told me that the chocolate chip cookies were fresh. So I ordered all that and also got a chocolate croissant. Let me tell you most disgusting food I have ever had. The cookie was straight up stale and had no taste. The brule was decent but overpriced, and the lady burned herself doing it. The croissant wasn’t fresh either… Never going back there. Oh, and this is the first review I ever write… Thats how bad this place is lol!

Very nice remodel of business. Patio on outside is a good addition to help with seating availability. Unfortunately out of the carrot ginger soup by 1pm(and that’s what I was craving). If it’s a house favorite, may need to consider making more available… Haven’t been here in awhile, but definite improvement since last visit…

Sandwiches are pretty good but where they stand out is the pastries, baked croissants, and kolaches. Get there early they usually sell out. I have been known to buy out all their supply for morning meetings.

After passing this place for several years, I finally had a chance to stop in before closing. I ordered a sandwich, cookie, a soft drink, and a cup for water. While waiting for my food, I first noticed the clear drinking cup was dirty and still had lipstick on it from the last person who used it. I then noticed that most of the tables were dirty and found a somewhat clean spot to sit down. I was relieved when an employee came by the tables to wipe them down, but that’s when I saw what I couldn’t excuse: she was wiping down the tables with a FILTHY towel. If that’s what they use to clean the front – where customers can see – what are they using in the back where we can’t see? The employees themselves were also in disarray. Dirty shirts. No aprons. No hats. Needless to say, I couldn’t enjoy what seemed to be a good looking sandwich when it finally got to my table.

I like this little bakery. It has just about everything one could ask for to start your day off right. Friendly service? Check! Good coffee? Check! Yummy breakfast pastries? Check! Check! It’s not just breakfast that they specialize in either. Need a bite for lunch, they will have you covered. Nicavid’s has quite the selection to choose from when it comes to sandwiches. After talking with the young lady working the morning I visited, she educated me on some of the history of the little bake shop at the end of the shopping center. For starters that they had been there for 11 years, and that staffing wise it was only a few employees and the owner that ran the operation. Open from 7a –2p Mon thru Fri and closed Sat, Sun it’s not to bad.(It’s a scratch kitchen which means those pastries displayed in the case are not out of a box. Shipped in from a factory and just baked in house.) She mentioned that they have regular customers who have been with them since the beginning. Of, which I applaud them! She also made mention that some negative reviews they’ve been given feedback about, is for the wait time during the busy periods in the day. Of which I say, customers can stand to be a little more understanding in the Mom and Pop shops. Maybe I’m biased but I support local businesses and when I walk in the door I don’t expect Starbucks speed or McDonald’s prices. Don’t take my word for it, go check this place out for yourself. Grab a cup of coffee and you gotta try the Cranberry Orange Muffin, lots of cranberries and great flavor. Don’t stop there, grab something else to take with you! :-) I’m a fan of this bakery and I will be going back!

Overpriced, small portions and mediocre food. Talking $ 8 – 10 for a small sandwich and no drink or side. Bakery items looked good.

You can build your own or try one of their specialties. I’m a fan of the Nicole which consists of cucumbers, bacon, turkey, & cheddar. And yes, you can create a combo as well either with chips & a drink or chips or a cookie, & a drink. I think they have another one as well where there’s a fruit cup but the prices do go up a bit(of course). They definitely have their regulars here — many folks who seem to be the type that are able to stay for long periods of time drinking coffee and reading the paper — that they can get comfortable in knowing the owners and employees. Not that it’s a bad thing though! The shop verges on being a somewhat small to medium area and during lunch they definitely get a good crowd going.

Awww. What a charming lunch spot. We really enjoyed this place. You walk in and it’s just completely clean and simple. There’s a huge menu on wall on the right. Stare at it for awhile and then move left to order. I opted for the Tomatowich since I love tomatoes. But I noticed it had Caesar dressing on it. I explained that I was a vegetarian and the guy at the counter replied that everything was made to order and that I just needed to pick another dressing. I picked the creamy herb and it went great with the sandwich ingredients. After I ordered and sat down, a kitchen staff member came out to clarify my order and to make sure it would be vegetarian. I ordered the carrot soup too and he explained it was not vegetarian because it had a small amount beef broth in it. He asked me what I’d like to sub it with and suggested fruit. I said sure. And he gave me a list of fresh fruit they had in the back to choose from. So nice! Anyway, my sandwich was delicious. As was the Heath Bar cookie I got. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in town.

Awesome local healthy alternative. I was grabbing lunch for some of the doctors at the clinic and they wanted subway. Ida’s this on Unilocal and decided to grab lunch here. The menu is great and the service was excellent. I can’t wait to taste the food!
