Milberger’s Landscaping and Nursery

This little gem of a nursery is on now on my «must stop at list» for my visits to the area. Not only are the plants healthy, there is a great variety of drought tolerant, seasonal color, water garden plants, trees and shrubs. The yard art is not to be passed by so quickly either. Unique lawn sculptues, pots, baskets, outdoor art and furniture for the sippin tea and be’n porchy as we say at my house.
I will definatly be back

Milbergers has been on the top of my Unilocal list since the Sun decided to show up in Texas early in January. The prices are great and the service is even better. One of the managers (male type. Forgets to wear his glasses) put me on to the Rye grass this past winter. He informed me that i’d be cutting it all winter and thank God for 70 and 80 degree days in December.
I was the envy of the neighbors and did not think my burnt summer grass that was baked in the 120 degree summer weather could ever see a green blade of grass again. The rye was luscious, easy to spread and so thick. I ponder why my winter grass looks better than my summer but will plant it every year as she is slowly dying off.
So now that it’s almost spring, I’ve decided to add succulents to my Xeriscape (plants indigenous to TX that don’t need too much water). Milberger’s selection of Cacti and succulents required three wagon trips to the car. (Shameful that I showed no Restraint.) and the help of Judy to load.
I stopped back after church for some more flowering annuals and can’t wait to post before and after pictures. I now choose Milbergers over Johns Landscaping. Better bang for you buck and not dead within days of planting …

The place looked great for the holidays. Plenty of employees, but unfortunately not one person ever acknowledged my presence. I actually told a couple of employees good morning and they just looked at me and said nothing. No… it is not that they did not understand english… they were not hispanic… It is so unfortunate to find such pathetic customer service. I would be extremely hesitant to return.

It is so refreshing to find a company like MIlberger’s that is very professional, dependable and customer focused. I believe every company has or will experience something that goes wrong however the difference between them is how they manage and respond to a negative situation !
I recently inquired about a weed killer that I could apply to my St. Augustine yard in order to alleviate a broadleaf weed. After receiving advice from one of the employees I purchased the product and applied it in the area only that contained the weeds. Well contrary to what we had hoped, and to what the labeling said, after several weeks, it had a very severe effect on the St. Augustine also.
I notified MIlberger’s about this and sent photos. In response, they very quickly responded by sending someone out to review the yard and immediately corrected the problem not only to my satisfaction but did what I feel was above and beyond what most any nursery would do ! My yard has recovered and I am a very satisfied and loyal customer !
I think I know what would have happened if I had a similar experience with one of the «big box» stores or a less reputable and customer focused Nursery !
If you are looking for a professional, dependable, and customer focused Nursery, I strongly recommend MIlberger’s !!!

Terrible knowledge experts and support! Although they seemingly have a Great-​looking selection their personnel are not familiar with a lot of the hazards of putting in none native species and then in fact will push their inventory just to get off of the grounds with ill advised options like Japanese-​based trees. Then when they die because they can’t survive the heat take months to respond to chg out or refund (the guys who took the deceased away envelop said «…Can’t believe they sold these to you, wrong climate…»). Terrible afterward customer support. Won’t ever be fooled by the facility again. That’s where the quality stops.

Milberger’s has a wonderful selection of healthy hearty flowers, ground cover, trees and shrubs as well as pottery and water feature supplies. I’ve purchased annuals and a number of shrubs, all of which have flourished after following planting instructions. Sod which is shipped from elsewhere in the state is generally good quality, though on two separate occasions I found around 15% of it to be poor quality or otherwise unusable. I believe returning bad sod would result in a partial refund, but it seems the sod farm should do a better job of quality control when cutting, rather than passing that task to the consumer.
Prices are a bit steep, especially when compared to area competitors.
Customer service is pretty terrible as most employees, either behind a counter or working throughout the nursery are generally unwilling to entertain questions of any sort. For this reason, unless you are a seasoned gardener, I would warn against Milberger’s and recommend a home improvement store or competing nursery.

I just keep coming back (or is it going back??)!
The selection is always excellent and we have had tremendous success with the plants purchased here. For the first year, last year my tomatoe plants (purchased here) thrived and were disease/​pest resistant. I’d like to credit my green-​thumbery but, the reality is the plants are high quality so it would be hard to NOT be successful with them.
Re-​stocked the spring garden. Dirt, mulch, plants, veggies, so much fun! Excellent service with no hassle or feelings of inadequacy.
Next time we are here it is for the yard… our lawn is pathetic and we are going to start over! Stay tuned…

This place rocks. They were crowded this past weekend but staff took time to show us a few trees and answer all of our questions. Beautiful plant selection, too. I can’t wait to go back later this week. Highly recommend.

Great nursery with lots of choices and gardening needs. Very helpful staff all over to help you. They have a super awesome halloween hay maze and a train ride for the kids this year. If you have kids you need to bring them for free halloween fun

I went in looking for bamboo. they have a large bamboo section with information on many different species. Unfortunately the best plants were the ones that escaped from the pots and were growing outside of the huge oak canopy. I finally found a Buddha belly that someone had set aside in the flower section so it was getting full sun and it was happy. It started dropping a lot of leaves after I planted it, I took photos and emailed them to Milberger’s. They responded quickly and with great advice that fixed the problem. love going, they have nice stuff and the kids play on the wagons.

My husband and I left after receiving some of the worse customer service we have ever experienced in San Antonio. The attendant seemed completely disinterested in assisting us and simply passed us off to another employee. He took one look at us and told us to wait on him. After fifteen minutes of being completely ignored we left and decided to go elsewhere.

I just came from here… Their selection of plants is vast… I bought a blueberry bush, some flowers and a bunch of herbs. Anyone ever heard of Mint Pineapple? It smells exactly like you might imagine… Mint with a hint of pineappley sweetness… in other words, AMAZING! :-)
They have a large selection, which is always nice… I could roam around here for hours… prices are ok, not great… just ok.
I saw a golden delicious apple tree for $ 25… I wanted it so bad, but it turns out you have to plant 2 next to eachother for pollination. I did not want to spend $ 50 on golden delicous apples that may not actually produce for years, so I opted to just go with my blueberry bush, flowers and herbs.
Fresh herbs are expensive at the grocery stores, plus if your making a recipe that calls for fresh herbs and you have to run out to buy them, it’s an inconvenience… so it’s nice being able to just trim some off your plants!
Anyway, it can be hard to find people to assist you with plants and questions on plants, so I can only give it a 4. They really should hire more people…
They have cash registers and parking in the front, however, to account for how busy they get, they’ve opened a parking area on the east end of the nursery. That is great, but they did not open another register back there so you would have to haul your items back to the front.
Overall, I still think this place is great and I’m definitely a fan, but there is room for improvement.

There was a time in my life when i really fit the «weekend warrior» stereotype. My Saturdays were filled with yard work and I took lot of pride in the things my green thumb accomplished. These days, I don’t have a lot of time for gardening, but it’s still a passion of mine, just on a smaller level than it once was. To scratch that itch I recently decided to plant an apartment herb garden and Millberger was my spot to get it going.
Now I visited on a weekday but it should be known that they host a pretty decent farmers market on the weekend but I’ll have to go back and do an update on that soon since its been a few months since I’ve visited. But on a weekday afternoon the place has far fewer people and I much prefer to go during off-​times for that reason.
I got plenty of help on my herb garden visit, as I have in many other visits over the years. I told the girl working what I was planning. She helped me figure out exactly what I would need. We debated using pots vs a window box and seeds vs plants that have already sprouted. Because I was doing the garden with my goddaughter I wanted to do a mix of both so she could pot plants and see seeds sprout. And I already had the clay pots at home I intended to use but it was valuable info to think about the window boxes so I definitely appreciated the time she took to teach me.
Then we discussed soil. Who knew dirt could come in so many varieties?! When all was said and done I opted for some pre-​fertilized potting soil and picked up a tip on the best rocks to use in the bottom of the pot to help with watering (inside info: broken clay pots are the way to go. It’s a good way to recycle and they work really well!). As many years as I’ve been amateur gardening I probably learned more in that visit than any other visit.
And I got an entire new herb garden for less than $ 35, which can’t be beat! Now who’s ready for me to attempt using that weird appliance in my kitchen that supposedly cooks things? I now have fresh herbs to spice up what I make for you…

I asked for possible reasons why my citrus won’t bloom, three workers talked about it and asked if I fertilized it. When I said yes, they had no other advice or thoughts on the matter. They told me to go find the horticulturist in another building and ask him. I didn’t bother. Expensive prices. Will go to other grdening stores when i need advice. Fertilizer section was limited for my needs.

Fairly large nursery with lots of variety. Their grounds are nice to stroll through on a nice day browsing for your needful things. It made me want a big yard just to fill with all of their wonderful tropical plants.
I found their prices to be a bit more than others in some areas but they did have a decently priced variety of herbs. Definately worth checking out for any of your landscaping needs.

Just inside of 1604 near Bulverde, Milberger’s is truly the prettiest nursery in San Antonio, Unfortunately, it is also the most expensive, too, by a long shot, and I don’t find the staff friendly or helpful in the least. Admiittedly, though, I’ve only visited on Saturdays, when the place was busy: perhaps they chill out during the week!

This is an absolutely fabulous landscaping place on the way out of San Antonio on 1604. There is a huge selection of plants and flowers; you walk around feeling inspired to re-​do your front and back yards. The prices are reasonable and they have weekly specials. The setup is gorgeous with shade from the trees and outdoor ponds. The staff is so friendly, even if you’re just strolling the lush grounds.
