Fork in the River

Simply outstanding! We’ve been on one other food tour (in Chicago) and thought it was great. .. but this one was head and shoulders above it. The choice of stops was excellent as were the samples at each one. We also liked the historical and cultural information Gary shared while walking throughout the Riverwalk area. We were particularly impressed that the head chefs at the three high end establishments all took time to meet with us personally and graciously provided a background on themselves and their establishments and answered questions. We have already recommended this tour to a number of our friends — we know they won’t be disappointed.

This was my first foodie tour experience. Wow! Did it ever exceed my expectations!
I particularly enjoyed learning more about San Antonio’s rich history. Gary’s extensive knowledge of San Antonio’s history, architecture not to mention food was impressive!
Gary shared with us the five hidden gems at the Riverwalk. The food experience in one word was SPECTACULAR!!! The portions were more than generous. Be prepared to go on this food tour with an empty stomach. The samples provided at the Mercantile store were unique and tasty. So much so that we went back to purchase these special items. The ice cream and gelato at Justin’s was sinful and heavenly!
We were provided four full size scoops! It was like Sophie’s Choice to choose which scoop was the best! Personally, if I had to choose just one I would choose the creamy, lipsmacking mango ice cream. President Clinton was quoted saying, «The mango ice cream at Justin’s is a national treasure!» For the first time I actually agreed with something former President Clinton said. LOL!
The salmon nachos at Biga’s were superb! Michael, the general manager, was very kind and gave us a behind the scenes tour which was a special treat. Bella’s was equally as impressive! Their seafood piaella and eggplant starter was insanely delicious! I think I dreamed about it that night! Our last experience was at Gwendolyn’s. I appreciated Chef Michael’s passion for his back to basics food.
I loved hearing him say, «Each plate of food is like a museum piece.» It was a special treat to spend time in his company!
This tour was the highlight of my stay in San Antonio! I am going to tell everyone I know about this incredible experience! Thank you again Gary!

This was truly an enjoyable experience. Gary did a terrific job combining the History, Riverwalk, Local Culture and of course The Food!
This was the first tour we have ever been on anywhere and I cannot imagine one any better. The mix of food experiences are a perfect combination. Not only is it a great chance to try some excellent restaurant food but a history lesson along the way.

Took the history tour and it delivered all that was promised. I wish we had more time to take additional tours. Exceptional value and I loved it! It was at a good pace and he kept us out of the sun and sitting as much as possible. I learned a lot — our tour guide was a gifted story teller and passionate about San Antonio and its history.

I wish I could remember everything I learned on this tour! Wow, what a way to learn about a city. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. His story telling style gave perspective, and history at the same time, while keeping interest. We had a group of 4 cub-​scouts in our tour group, and while I think they faded about ½ the way through, the tour wasn’t «lightened» for their young ears (and the parents were warned that it wouldn’t be)…
We went on a two hour tour, and every minute was pretty much packed. There were a number of spots along the tour that were selected for their seating/​shade which was a nice surprise. I can’t speak highly enough of this tour if you visit San Antonio, worth every penny.
Honestly, if they hiked up the fee a couple dollars, I’d be interested in getting a laminated lanyard that had the highlights of the history and a souvenir of the city, and the tour… but that’s more constructive marketing criticism than actual criticism of the tour or the guide.

Luckily I found this tour via TripAdvisor and it was great.
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided us with a plethora of information about San Antonio, the Alamo, and the Riverwalk. If you like history and a good storytelling, this is the thing for you!
