Fairfield Inn & Suites San Antonio Downtown/Market Square

Visiting on our honeymoon, we had booked a hotel from a booking site and it ended up not being near where we needed. We had the front desk clerk find a hotel by the same chain near downtown and the river walk. When we arrived at Fairfield we told them the situation. They «upgraded» us to a suite. We didn’t think anything else about it and unpacked. We then went out for dinner and came back to the room and the staff had decorated our room with chocolates and a bottle of champagne. The staff went above and beyond to make our stage amazing and relaxing. All the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean! We will be returning in the future

Not the best Fairfield Inn I’ve stayed at. First off there are bugs in the room. I saw a cock roach behind the thermostat and in the bathroom. It also kinda smells funky in the halls. But it’s really close to the river walk and The Alamo. I would not recommend this place or stay here again, however.

Short version: Clean, good wifi, excellent AC (for those who like it really cool in their room) and breakfast included, NO parking fees. The downside is that the walls are paper thin. I could hear people talking (not shouting) next to me, the person waking and walking on the 4^th floor — above me, the freeway traffic, and could hear people’s conversations as I walked down the hallway en-​route to breakfast. Would have needed better sound proofing to get 5 stars, which they can’t fix. Rate for 2 double beds: $ 85+tax.

My first day here is coming to a close and so far I’m enjoying my stay. The staff is very friendly, the room is clean, the bed and pillows are comfy, the room temperature is perfect, and it’s pretty quiet here. Cons are that the bed and room seems particularly small (standard room with a king sized bed), I don’t like that the bathroom sink is outside of the tub/​toilet room, the microwave has no outlet anywhere near it for the cord to reach, the neighborhood is kinda sketchy, and the pool is pretty small. Those are minor issues though, to me anyways. For $ 89 a night with free breakfast, wifi, and parking, and only a mile from the Riverwalk, I can deal. :)

We stayed at the Fairfield last weekend and I was very pleased with the experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by their manager. Check in was very easy and fast as well as the check out. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was very nice and the breakfast was great! The pool was a little small, but it was not a big deal for us. In addition the location is near the Market Square and not too far from the Riverwalk. We will definitely be staying at this hotel again, I definitely recommend it.

Our room smelled funny right when we walked in. The staff took care of it right away and gave us a different room. The rooms looks just like the pictures. Very clean and up to date. The Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner was awesome ! Oh the free breakfast was good as well. Loved the cute Texas shaped waffles :)

One weekend a friend and I decided to make an impromptu trip to San Antonio. There was a large convention in town so all of the hotels along the riverwalk were booked solid. As a last result we ended up at the Fairfield Inn and Suites.
The hotel isn’t very far from the Riverwalk and downtown San Antonio. We were told it was only a ten minute walk but walking in the Texas heat is insane. We just cabbed it and most times the trip was less than ten dollars.
The hotel is nice. Nothing special but clean, quiet, safe and bed bug free. The room we stayed in was right off the elevator and it had a funky odor. We asked to be moved to another room but there were none available so they had a maintenance guy come and spray some air freshener. That was funny. It didn’t really help either but we dealt with it. The hallways smelled of chlorine and felt damp too. We guessed that had to do with the swimming pool.
It’s not 5-​star or anything but it’s more than acceptable if you’re on a budget or stuck with it as a last minute option.

A true gem! I’ve had to travel to San Antonio twice in the past month for work. Each for 5 days at a time. So finding a reasonably priced hotel without sacrificing comfort or safety can be difficult. This hotel is great bang for your buck! I was in a King Executive room and it was quite spacious. The rooms are clean and modern and well insulated as I never heard the people next to me. I can’t say enough nice things about the staff. Everyone is extremely courteous including the housekeeping and maintenance staff. They are always quick to smile and offer a greeting when they see you. Drew one of the Managers went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable. He even wrote a kind email with a personal touch to me thanking me for my business. This hotel is a short 1 mile walk from the Riverwalk, which made hitting the sites a breeze. The only reason I’m giving this hotel 4 stars instead of 5 is because the free WI-​FI was slow and unreliable. I know this is to keep people from streaming but let’s face it that’s what we all use WI-​FI for these days. This is definitely my hotel of choice whenever I come to San Antonio.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to stay at this hotel yet.
My wife is pregnant, and we had planned a babymoon to San Antonio and we made a reservation to stay at this hotel. The day before our trip, my wife got sick. I had to take her to the hospital to get anti-​nausea medicine and she was hooked up to IV’s to prevent dehydration. When we finally left the hospital at 3AM, the doctor advised against travel.
I cancelled my reservation when I got home. Since I cancelled on the same day that I was scheduled to check in, Marriott’s reservation guidelines dictated that I would still be charged for the first night.
I called customer service to explain the situation, and shortly after I received an email stating that all fees would be waived.
Although I haven’t had a chance to stay at this hotel (yet), I must say that I was very happy with their customer service. I hope to take a trip to San Antonio in the near future and I plan to stay at this hotel when I do.

I was welcomed to the Fairfield Inn by construction workers, and dust. But I let it slide, every place needs renovation, right? Minutes before crawling into bed, I lifted up the cover to discover PEE STAINS ON THE SHEETS. Did you hear me? PEE STAINS. That’s why you BLEACH the sheets when that happens. The next morning, getting into the shower (which was extremely cold) I looked at the toilet to discover muck and brown stuff on the rim of the toilet as if no one had cleaned them in YEARS. After cringing and vowing not to use the toilet again, I went downstairs to get breakfast; well actually next door to the Residence Inn because the renovation was taking over the breakfast area.
After leaving the hotel for the day (which was a very long day; San Antonio has a lot of fun things to do) I came back to the hotel and found my room had the distinct smell of Marijuana, not to mention the blood shot man sitting on the ground right next to my room, which lead to a police search, my plans of getting back to the hotel and diving into bed at 10:00 PM changed to being interrupted by the commotion outside my door and the headaches caused by WEED delayed my plans for a good hour. Not only that, but because of the no warrant law, the people were allowed to stay In. The. Room. So now I have my door locked and a little on edge as the drug deals continue. The management didn’t even apologize because of the interruption, and I left without a goodbye. Thank you, Fairfield Inn for the umm adventure.
On a good note: the orange juice was good.

We stayed here for 4 nights, and had problem after problem. We were traveling in a group and spread across 3 rooms (101, 103, 131) throughout the first floor.
Our first room (110) was a small, very small King bed. We were given a rollaway bed for 2 of the kids. It was a TIGHT fit and it just didn’t work. Not to mention, the shower had black mold at the ceiling. The other two rooms had no problems.
Our second night, we were moved 7 rooms down the hallway right next to part of our group. This room was much nicer, more spacious and clean. The beds were uncomfortable, very hard and stiff. The corner bumper on wall kept falling down on our children, but it was an easy fix. The main annoyance with these room (101 & 103) was that the hotel is remodeling, so much to our luck, they were using a jack hammer from 9 – 6 in the room directly next to us. It echoed really loud and was extremely dusty. We were informed that the jack hammer would only be used for one day, but it continued for all 4 days. The hotel staff offered to move us down the hallway next to the remaining of our group, but that would of been another move within 2 days. In room 101, the TV broke and the maintenance staff had to come replace it and they gave us a free movie rental, which was nice.
The free breakfast was nice and fulfilling but it wasn’t at this hotel, we had to walk across the parking lot to use the neighboring hotels dining area. The Texas shaped waffle and the chocolate muffins were delicious.
The staff was very helpful, courteous and patient with our problems with hotel and frustrations.

This is a good hotel, but the non smoking rooms, towels and sheets smeels smoke.
One night, was very hard for me to sleep.
Towels are very thin. They should be changed.
But aside of this, I liked the hotel, employes and location.

The hotel is in a good location. A short walk to market square and to the riverwalk. The staff was friendly and helpful. Love the free wifi, breakfast and parking.

As a Marriott Rewards member and a frequent guest at Marriott properties, I’d have to say this one is just so-​so. The location is good and the rates are probably better compared to those a little closer, but the neighborhood is very sketchy. The room was pretty clean but our king suite had a really strange layout. It was spacious, but there was a big empty space in the middle of the room. No coffee table in front of the sofa and very few surfaces to lay anything on. They had moved the small refrigerator out of its built-​in cabinet and put it in the middle of the floor on the other side of the room. Very tacky to me. The staff was friendly but not very professional. We left our rooms very early each morning and returned around in the afternoon and they had not been cleaned. We wanted to rest and not be disturbed, so we had to call for fresh towels. The hotel was sold out, but they should plan for that in my opinion.

Perfect location decent price rooms are neat the front desk reception Nya was really nice and helpful and made me feel I could bother here for anything I needed lol everything was good until now when I can’t sleep due to the chaos turns out our room is near pool which I thought was great umm not a good idea when all you want is peace and quiet but overall it’s clean employees are nice hopefully next time there will be more considerate guest. Overall I can’t complain. OH and they have Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner

Bed bugs on the 2^nd floor and the 4^th floor. I have pictures of dead bugs in my bed. My wife had them all over her clothes. Checked in on a Wednesday night and got a room on the 2^nd floor. That night we had 2 live bugs crawl out of the pillow case and onto my wife’s pillow. We called front desk and immediately changed rooms around 2am. Fast forward to Sunday night, my wife pulls open the sheet to lay down and there was a dead bug under the sheets. There were tiny little black bugs across the entire bed. I looked under the bed and there was also a dead cockroach. The manager, immediately denied there being a problem without even calling a pest control company to check it out. So much for giving the customer the benefit of the doubt. He is refusing to refund my money IN FULL for my wretched stay at this hotel. The inconvenience it caused my wife and me on our business trip was unacceptable. The Regional Director, reached out to me to tell me that they «went out of their way and paid for a pest control service to come and check out the room, and they concluded that there are no bed bugs». Well, I have the pictures and pictures don’t lie. So, I think it’s time to find another pest control company if there are dead bugs and cockroaches in hotel rooms. White Lodging management needs to get their act together and quit cutting corners. They need to train their employees effectively in hospitality, and the manager needs to learn how to manage a hotel appropriately. Spare yourselves from even worrying about bed bugs and stay away from this hotel. If the manager, had treated me with respect and was a bit more humble when I told him about this situation I probably would have let this go, but he was so arrogant and rude that it’s only necessary to spread this information out there for people to be aware. People need to know so that they can protect themselves. Thankful for outlets like Unilocal,when managers like this one are unwilling to make things right. This hotel doesn’t even deserve the 1 star I was forced to give it in order to write this review.

We enjoyed our stay here mostly because of the decent price and free parking. I have no complaints on the room but the free breakfast was not so good. The waffles were the only items I liked. The indoor pool is decent but it is not heated. I would stay again.

Friendly staff but room’s bathroom needed to be cleaned. I found two globs of long dark hair (my hair is silver and definitely not as long as the hair left behind). One glob was on the bathroom floor and the other was in the bathtub. Despite the hair, I may stay at this hotel again. The rest of the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, each room has a microwave and mini-​fridge, and the location is on the edge of downtown San Antonio. The Riverwalk is walking distance and Southtown, with its eateries and a microbrewery, is close by. The hotel has a small pool and serves breakfast in the early morning. Plus, free parking is always a good thing. Many of the downtown SA hotels charge for parking. This Fairfield Inn does not. All in all, this hotel meets my needs when I drive into SA.

We stayed here on a Sunday night for my son’s 7^th birthday (instead of having a birthday party). I booked this hotel because of the decent reviews on
, price, and free breakfast, but most especially because it had an indoor pool which the kids really wanted.
The location is pretty decent, close to Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, etc. but our goal wasn’t to go to the Riverwalk, it was for a getaway and have the kids go swimming.
Pros:
good location, renovated room, great breakfast: waffles, Jimmy Dean sandwiches, boiled eggs, cereal, bages, muffins, drinks; and friendly/​polite staff
Cons:
Really, the ONLY complaint is that the pool was SOOO cold. for me anyway, my kids didn’t mind, they got used to it quickly. I wish they could have a heated pool. or at least a hot tub. I was really really cold! lol!
The bed was comfy, flat screen TV, there are like 3 pizza places nearby: Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and Papa John’s. It’s a good location. i think we paid $ 105 for one night stay.

I’ll give them this: great location, just four blocks from Market Square and a mile from River Walk. That’s about it.
Downside: bad neighborhood, young apathetic staff, and minimal security.
I may be biased, but here it is: I got items stolen from my LOCKED room… as did a guy down the hall from me that same night. There is a security guard, but he hangs out in his car in the parking lot making sure cars don’t get broken into (which is why I’m sure besides my room getting burgled, if cars are getting stolen this place must not be very safe) rather than being inside the building making rounds or at least staying in the lobby. There are no security cameras… so paired with the fact that there are two entrances other than the lobby, it’s pretty easy for someone to get in and rob someone.
The staff was very unhelpful in my situation and both myself and the other guy who got robbed immediately left to stay elsewhere. Since then, the staff didn’t get in touch with me again until I called their corporate headquarters to complain. The manager made it seem like she was being inconvenienced as she told me that corporate would be paying me for my stolen items.
I’ve never had a problem at any of the other hotels in San Antonio that I’ve been to (and I travel here a lot for business), so needless to say, I will be staying at more reliable hotels next time.
