Camera Exchange Beginner 1 and 2, and nighttime digital photography classes are excellent if you need a tune up on your photography skills. Instructor Cosby takes his craft and teaching seriously. He’s good at communicating, in an organized way, what you need to know to take excellent pictures. He also shares how to get creative with your shots and exposures, and encourages students to experiment and practice for best results. Classes are reasonably priced for the quality of instruction.

Love this place! The staff were very friendly and knowledgable. Thank god because I needed some advice on film developing because it’s been at least a decade or so since I’ve bone it lol I will be a regular at this location.

I took basic 1&2 photography and Lightroom. Basic photography 1 was really good! Learned a lot! Basic 2 had a little more info but since it was a smaller class the teacher (Mr. Cosby) answered more of our questions in detail. Which helped a lot! Lightroom was a tad of a disappointment. He stressed more on organizing the photos than editing them. Organizing is important but I can more for the tips on editing and it felt kinda rushed since we didn’t get to editing till the last hour of the 5 hour class. The classes are really good but the Lightroom is a tad over priced for what they teach you I believe.

When I shop at a store, I not only consider what level of service I receive but I watch how other customers are treated. … the staff here wants to share their knowledge & help everyone and anyone become a better photographer! Give them a try!

By chance I stopped in at the Camera Exchange store off of San Pedro and I was so surprised. This store was small but had so much there. I found there staff to be helpful with my questions. And they gave me their recommendations as well as more budget-​friendly options.
I actually went back the following day with my camera and lenses in hand. I was looking at trading in one of my lenses that I don’t get as much use out of. They gave me a quote which was lower than I expected and the guy helping me suggested I’d get just as much if not more if I looked at selling it on Craigslist or Amazon or similar sites. I really appreciated that advice and didn’t hold it against them that they couldn’t give me more.
They also helped me pick out a new lens. He listened to what I needed out of the lens and suggested two different ones giving me the pros and cons in the short and long term to both of them.
All in all, I was impressed by there service and inventory. Looking forward to many trips back as well as trying out some of the classes they have to offer.

Wouldn’t let me buy a camera battery with my moms debit card… Ok
But that didn’t mater until after the sale was complete and the cashier forgot to tell me or ask for an ID, thus wasting both our time and being unhelpful.

George saved us while on a job in Texas! We had a computer go down and took the port in our d800 with it. George set us up with a replacement body and we were able to finish our job. Thanks George! Your enthusiasm and great attitude turned a bad day into a «whew» afternoon!

This review is well overdue! We have been coming to this place since my husband bought me my first «fancy camera», the Nikon D7100. I absolutely love the customer service. Chris helped us the last time we were there. He was very attentive and helpful. I appreciate the honesty. They don’t try to sell you something because they’ll make more money off of you. They tell you the product information as it is and let you decide for yourself. Every experience has been great. We plan on coming back for future purchases!

This place is all about cameras and the tools needed to get it done. Your not going to come here for a point and shoot, you will trust that these experts are aware of their trade and it does make the difference to have them their!

This place has become my second home with all the help I could possibly get from the friendly staff who make you feel so welcomed and are so knowledgeable! A special shout out to Johnny Castro who continues to help me develop my photography skills! You’re the best man!

Not remotely helpful. Don’t bother. Tried to get information over the phone about their camera and light rentals and the guy couldn’t have been more terse or unhelpful.

I mean, it really kind of is one of the only one stop camera shops for us photogs. They have a pretty good rental system which I like, as a student. Are some things there more expensive than others? Probably so but, I’ve always experienced good customer service there. They’re not pushy and are usually pretty helpful. I’d recommend it for your DSLR needs.

To the point… I spend quite a bit of money on my hobbies. This year alone ive spent in the 5 digits on cameras and lenses. NONE of them at Camera Exchange. That’s not because I don’t give them first crack at my money. I do. I try hard to support local business. That’s rare nowadays with so much competition online. I go to C.E. regularly and am always blown away by how hard it is to GIVE them my money and business.
Their staff is arrogant and sometimes rude. Just because i walk in in a T Shirt and jeans does not mean I am poor or an idiot. I have lots of money and knowledge of cameras and lenses. But somehow, and every time I am treated poorly.
Just this weekend. I walked in to buy a Summilux 50 mm lens. I was ready to buy even though the lens was not in fantastic condition, i simply wanted to buy it and not buy online. I asked them for a lens cover… something that should ALWAYS be included with an $ 800 lens sale, they gave me such a hard time. I told them I did not need a name brand lens cover… something cheap… just to protect my lens. No go! I can’t believe they would turn down an $ 800 sale for a scuffed up lens BECAUSE a $ 5 lens cap was «Extra». Again… as i have done so many times, i left without buying.
I guess they have profit dollars coming out of their ears! In this economy one would think that EVERY dollar, Every customer, Every sale is important. I guess not to this staff.
Sad thing is that I have so many stores like this. I guess online shopping is the way for me.

I was visiting San Antonio and stopped in not really knowing what to expect. They carry just about anything you will need for a shoot. The staff was friendly and did not hound me while shopping and didn’t try to up-​sell me at the checkout counter.

I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to camera exchange! I lost my camera charger and needed to take photo’s of my niece graduating from Lackland Air Force base, especially since I am her only family here in Texas AND I wanted to send these pics to her folks! Well, Camera exchange helped me charge my batteries and saved the day!!! Thank you camera exchange, not only did I take photos of my niece, I took some of the other fine service men and women who’s family members couldn’t attend the ceremony as well! Camera exchange is a blessing!

This place nearly has it all as a traditional photographer. If i don’t have the time to wait for my supplies online I go here as my first, (pretty much only) choice. I shoot ALOT of black and white 35 mm film, and develop it as well. These people have all of what I need from start to finish and the expert advice is a plus.

Good selection and pleasant knowledgeable staff. I shop here often and enjoy it each time.

I felt overwhelmed and stupid. The guy at the counter was helpful in a way. I explained to him that I knew little about digital cameras and was interested in upgrading from a Powershot Canon to a Canon Rebel. so he showed me it, but didn’t really explain in simple enough terms for humble me to understand. I felt like an idiot and I’m pretty sure he looked at me like I was one.
At the end of the day, it’s a place for professionals, not amateurs unless you want to feel like hudding in a corner soon after visiting. I felt discouraged after talking to the guy and I was really set on getting the Canon Rebel… That was my experience.

The Camera Exchange is San Antonio’s only real camera store. They carry an interesting selection of new and used equipment and a nice selection of film. If you shoot film in San Antonio, and specifically medium format film, this is the place for you. They also provide lens and body rentals, and even have bino’s and some lighting gear for rent as well. The staff knows their stuff and are helpful but not pushy. If you have a question or need help, you should ask. The store also offers photo classes.

I used to go to Camera Exchange when I was in school. The employees are very knowledgeable. If you have any questions about anything to do with photography or videography. Be warned though, this place isn’t for someone just looking for a cute little camera. Most of the people that work here are professional photographers and hold the industry in very high standards. I’ve felt this turn into a bit snobby behavior but if you look past that the employees are really trying to teach you about what’s best for you. I love going there to check out the new cameras. It’s like I’m Wayne and each new Nikon that comes in are the Fender. Angels singing in my head. I really enjoy the store and the people are really helpful and are willing to teach you which is why sometimes it might take a while for someone to help you out. Just wait and you wont be sorry. They’ll help you find exactly what you need.
