Here at the JCC, we strive to inspire Jewish journeys, while strengthening individual life, family unity and community involvement. We will achieve this through creative and constructive programs, which meet the cultural, educational and recreational needs of individuals, families and the community at large.

History

Established in 1999.

The Jewish Community Center of San Antonio was founded over 130 years ago and has been established at its current location for the past 14 years.

Great community center! Signed our daughter up for swim lessons as non-​members and she loved them! Did amazing things for her confidence in the water. Coaches were so great with the kids. Coach Avery and Coach Sam rock. My daughter loved those guys. They would adapt the lesson to each child’s skill level.
We ended up joining so we could keep using the great pool and my wife and I are doing a fitness class here tomorrow while we put our daughter in the J-​Care program so we can see how she likes that as well.
The workout facility looks really good to without feeling like a «mega-​gym» chain. Looking forward to using it. I know this place has lots more to offer and we plan to check it all out.

This place is HUGE! It has classrooms, a gym, basketball court, auditorium, and pool. I am sure there is also much more I have not yet discovered. I went here for a fashion night and want to go back. The membership is a steal too compared to other gyms in San Antonio. Plus, they still have child care services and the center is open to the public. It is known as the J center apparently to the hip and cool. Pretty neat!

I’m absolutely blown away by everything going on here!
The campus is huge. It houses two schools, an incredible fitness center with an olympic-​sized swimming pool, a Holocaust museum, theater, tennis courts, basketball, Senior center, personal training. Don’t forget they host one of San Antonio’s most spectacular film festivals!
Tons of great events happen here all the time. The sense of community at the Barshop JCC is incredible, and they work really hard to keep amazing an fantastic events in San Antonio. You can catch a play in the Sheldon Vexler Theater (a very cool and intimate black box) one day, and an art show the next and grab a great work-​out in between.
Best of all, anyone can become a member and take advantage of these incredible facilities. So, if you’re looking for a great community with all these super fabulous facilities, you’ve found it! Give them a call — you’ll be happy you did!
