St. John’s Lutheran Child Development Center

Our family loves St. John’s. My now 3 year old started about a year ago, coming from an at home daycare we were very nervous putting her into a much bigger daycare, worried about what kind of attention she would get and if she would feel comfortable and happy. She gets so much love and attention from the teachers there and has done so well, we couldn’t be happier. We now have our 1 year old there too and they are excellent with the babies. It makes it easier to leave my kids everyday knowing they are somewhere they are well cared for and somewhere that they love being.

My daughter has attended St. John’s CCDC in Sugarhouse since last August. We were on the waiting list for many months before getting her in, and I am so glad we waited it out. No other childcare centers, that I looked into, compared to St. John’s. The rooms are clean and bright. The staff is friendly and communicates very well regarding my child’s day to day activities as well as her progress.
The most telling thing about why I really like sending my daughter there, is her attitude about going. She is always happy to be there and loves all of her teachers. Sometimes she doesn’t want to go home because she is having such a great time.
She gets to be involved in a variety of activities for only being 17 months. She has even learned sign language, which I was very impressed with, and has taught to me as well.
I have already recommended St. Johns to a few of my friends and would recommend them to anyone who is currently looking for childcare.

The teachers at St. John’s CCDC are phenomenal. Our daughter joined the baby classroom when she was 5 months old. I was instantly comfortable with all of the girls — they are patient and loving. They are our partners in parenting and put our minds at ease going to work. We get great updates and reports on their daily activities. The teachers also easily reach us via text during the day (and vice versa) — whether it be to send a cute picture or to ask a question. We are so lucky to be a part of the St. John’s family.

It has now been another year with my son at St. John’s CCDC and, if anything, my opinion of the school has improved. He has «graduated» from the tiny kids room (12 – 18 mos.) to the Hoppers (18 – 24 mos.), then Crickets (24-~30 mos.), and now Fireflies (30 – 36 mos.). I was initially quite hesitant to agree to the Firefly room, as it is a small space with limited outside light (and no toilet!) set up for a few kids who were 30+ months and potty trained. As initially pitched to me, they were putting him there because they were «over-​capacity» in the other rooms. Booooo! (Turns out, that is not a helpful selling point for any reasonably [fine, over]protective parent who understandably will object to putting her kidlet in what appears to be a sub-​standard space so others can get the «good» room.)
BUT IT HAS BEEN THE BEST THING EVER. He loves his tight-​knit group of five Firefly friends and he loves the teacher (Ms. Alexandria) about as much as he does me. He has thrived in the small class atmosphere, which is full of all the art and nature and learning a little boy could want. He also still gets the benefit of the bigger classroom through visits to the Caterpillars (36 – 48 mos.) and has even been able to go on neighborhood walks and field trips with his little buddies.
He is transitioning full time into the Caterpillars soon, as his third birthday is next week. The teachers there are already handling the transition perfectly by reaching out to include him as much as possible. Seriously, I love them.
If there were ten stars, St. John’s would have all of them.

We love St. John’s and are thrilled to send out daughter to a safe, fun, incredible learning environment each day. More importantly, our daughter loves going to school and is so happy with all of her teachers and friends.

From day 1 I was impressed with St John’s. I toured many other child care facilities, including other churches, and none of them gave me the confidence that St. John’s did. My infant daughter has been going there for just under a month and she is well cared for! Benilda has been with them in the infant room for 15 years! That says a lot. And Hemanta, Aurora and Pilar are so wonderful with all the little kiddos. From the very first day I dropped my daughter off I knew I was in a great facility — sweet Hemanta gave me her cell phone number and texted with me throughout the day to let me know how my little girl was doing. Aside from the excellent care in the room, I especially appreciate the administration and their attentiveness! They are very responsive and have always been available to answer any questions I have about preparing to send my firstborn to them. I feel spoiled to have such a great place to send my daughter, that offers part-​time care AND will even do cloth diapering on my little babe. So rare to find all in one place. Thankful beyond measure!

We are thrilled our son is able to go to school at St John’s Sugarhouse location. He loves going to school/​daycare there three days a week. My son loves his teachers/​program and so do I!

We love St. John’s and could not be happier with the curriculum and teachers. Our daughter started at the age of two. We saw a huge improvement in her verbal and social skills. She has also hit numerous milestones in a short amount of time. Daily activity sheets are provided of what she has learned, said, done, etc. This is helpful to have an idea of how her days are spent. Our son started in the nursery a few months ago, which even has a curriculum and daily activity sheets.
I am impressed and grateful that each year, the teachers review your child against milestones set for the class they’re in. Parent-​teacher meetings are scheduled where all information is presented.
Communication on all fronts is clear and easy. Our children are well cared for at St. John’s and I highly recommend them for care and preschool.

Both of my children have partaken of the pre-​school services they offered here from birth until pre-​k. The first child left far advanced for his age (for what that is worth) and moved right into being accepted into a private elementary school.
The teachers here truly care and look after your children as you would. There is that bit of Jesus time each day, but it is expected in a religious school and just fine with us. A little religion has never hurt anyone.
