Residence Inn Salinas Monterey

TL;DR: Comfortable slightly dated furnishing with excellent service.
Pros:
*The evening meals they serve here here were pretty good for a Residence Inn. The chicken Tacos were pretty good and the Meatball sliders were also tasty. Bad news, there’s no alcohol served with your meal [I’m ok with this]. The nice thing is they leave some fruit out in the morning, and drinks/​water in the evening to eat [nice touch].
*Fairly close to make a quick day trip to Monterrey, and the Freeway.
*Rooms were nice and clean
*Service here is very friendly.
Cons:
*Rooms were a little dated, but that doesn’t bother me too much.

Staying here is always nice. They offer military discounts and if you are an employee at NMC they will also honor a discount. The rooms always smell clean, there is lots of room, the furniture is not run down, everything is tip top clean. The breakfast has a large variety of food. Some nights they offer free dinner that is always so good! The kitchenette is fully stocked to cook any meal, the dishwasher is a plus ! The staff is very pleasant and willing to bring you anything to your room (dish soap, razors, extra blankets). This is my entire families go to spot when we visit our family in Salinas.

The toilet had hard water residue and the tub had a piece of old soap and hair on it.
We requested house keeping and they didn’t even clean our room.

We needed a 2 br plus sleeper sofa unit near Salinas hospital for two nights. I searched aerB&B, VRBO, and finally found residence inn. It was CLEAN, secure, near everything. The kitchen had full size appliances, dishes, etc, but the utensils were very limited. We did little cooking, but if you plan to, I’d bring my own spatula, kitchen knife, basic hand tools. Non smoking room, smelled clean. No smoke smell, but at one time someone must have smoked as there were 20 old cigarette burns on the otherwise nice carpet. People can apparently be pigs.
Full Breakfast was great. Better than expected.
Staff was wonderful. We thought we might need to stay a third night and wouldn’t find out until 11:00 doctor appt. I explained to the desk clerk and she volunteered a 1:00 checkout at no charge. VERY kind, gracious and concerned with their guests needs. That’s what earned them the fifth star.

Thank you all for giving Marriott such a great name. My husband and I had a wonderful time on our 6 year anniversary! Thank you again…

We made the booking through Hotwire and paid before our arrival. We provided another credit card as the security deposit. After we checked out I noticed an extra $ 217 charge on the security deposit credit card.
I contacted the hotel and they said that the charge would be reverted and that someone would contact me. A week later no one had contacted me and the charge hadn’t been reverted. I called them again and they weren’t helpful at all. I had to file a claim with the credit card company to get the money back.

I was very surprised with the room we reserved. We had a two bed two bath room with a full kitchen and living area! We needed a place to crash with our three kids after a wedding and booked this room. It’s about 20mins from Monterey area and worked well for us.
I really liked how clean the rooms were! I am all about inspecting rooms prior to sleeping and I couldn’t find anything wrong with the place. We enjoyed the breakfast and so did the kids! Our fav was the waffle :)
Definitely worth staying if you’re looking for a spacious room that’s super clean!

Big suites, very friendly service, and a good breakfast. The chocolate Oreo like muffins are good.

We have been staying here quite often lately.
The rooms are spacious and clean. My dad uses the bedroom whole my daughter and I sleep on the fold out couch. The fold out mattress is very thin but we are able to get a good night’s rest.
The kitchen is a fully equipped kitchen. Stove top, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. Lots of cupboard space and comes with dishes, cups, pots and pans.
The bathroom is nice and has quite a bit of room as well.
I recommend staying here to anyone who needs to stay for a few nights and would like some of the comforts of home.

Our «go to» temporary home on the Central Coast! I am in the military and my family (including dog and parakeet) stayed here inbound move to and outbound move from Monterey. Swimming pool, free breakfast, close to mall, Costco, Target, restaurants, etc. It was worth the extra out of pocket cost to stay here instead of military lodging. The staff is great, they learned the kids names and made sure we had everything we needed.

Just arrived. Checking in was a breeze, very friendly staff. Our host at the receptionist desk went above and beyond to get us towels, extra blankets etc. Couldn’t ask for more from her.
Hallways are well lit and clean. Hotel room is well carpeted, clean and cozy. Our room had a timed fireplace, something we appreciated as the night got colder.
However, I should mention a few exceptions here, the not so good about this property, particularly the 3^rd floor room we stayed in; 2^nd bedroom bathroom tub has a cracked drainage enclosure. Additionally, the water drains very slowly when taking a shower. The shower curtain is dirty at the bottom, tells me the housekeeping staff never really cleaned this tub. Don’t bother trying to soak yourself in the tub. Its too dirty and unhygienic. Stand and wash quickly before the water gets angle high due to poor drainage.
Kitchen appliances are white and dated. Look pretty old. It’s time for an update. This room is in the 3^rd floor.
Last but not least, we had breakfast before we left. The options are good, there is plenty of tables to seat. Food is replenished quick. Overall food quality is ok and typical of a residence in. In general, this is somewhat ‘ok’ of a location. Would not stay here due to dirty tubs, dated appliances etc.

Nice place. Relatively new. Clean. Surprisingly quiet. 20 – 30 minutes to the Monterey airport and an easy drive. Stayed more than a week and over a weekend and services was consistent. Free breakfast in the morning. Nothing special and does get crowded late mornings and on the weekends. Recommended from a long time and frequent traveler.

A great place to stay when splitting time between Monterey and Santa Cruz. The front desk clerk Samantha, was great! She greeted us with a big smile and was very helpful. The property is quiet with clean rooms. The complimentary breakfast is what you would expect for a «complimentary» hotel breakfast.
Our only concern was when we made our reservation through Marriott they stated a roll-​away bed would not be a problem. We had requested a larger room, but they were booked. When we checked in we learned the property does not offer roll-​away beds… Not the fault of the Residence Inn.
Would definitely stay here again!

We stayed here for three nights and it was enjoyable. They have a small indoor pool which was nice. There was also a hot tub, however it was the same temperature as the pool??? If you’ve stayed at other Residents Inn you know they always offer a full breakfast. This place does however it felt like Groundhog Day every morning. Literally the same breakfast offerings! They had eggs, sausage, and potatoes. It would have been nice to see a variety.
The staff was nice and helpful at the front desk and the kitchen. However it did take almost two hours to have a hair dryer and luggage rack brought up to our room. Also the extra towels we requested never came.
Overall it was a fine stay. The cost was a bit high but you do get breakfast. The area is also very safe. If you are looking to visit Santa Cruz and Monterey and don’t want to switch hotels, this is a good option as you are about 30 minutes from both places.

Pet owners BEWARE! This hotel charges a NON-​REFUNDABLE $ 100 pet fee, whether you’re staying one day or one month. So, if you have an extended stay, I guess it’s worth it. Otherwise, the «pet-​friendly» description is VERY MISLEADING! Thank goodness I called ahead to be sure!

Stayed here on a Saturday night after a 10 mile hike around The Pinnacles.
We were greeted by an enthusiastic and warm desk clerk — I was surprised how friendly and outgoing she was. We asked her if she recommended anywhere to eat and she not only made a great recommendation but printed out a map to get there!
Once we opened the door to our room we were welcomed by a great scent and clean furnishings. I was impressed with the size of the room and amenities. Although we didn’t use any of them (refrigerator, stove, sink, microwave, etc…) it’s nice having the option.
The bed was comfortable, the air conditioner worked well, and the room was quiet the whole night. The reason for 4 stars is that they didn’t have a way to rent movies on the TV. I was looking forward to kicking back and purchasing a flick. We wound up heading out to the theater.
I liked that the breakfast buffet was included, the cooked food wasn’t great (the potatoes were microwaved), but they had a nice variety of options (eggs, sausage, bagels, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt, etc.).
Very happy with my stay, would definitely stay again!

What a wonderful place. The staff is extremely friednly and awesome. They had a great surprise waiting for us since we were on our honeymoon. The hotel itself is quiet… well lit, very well taken care of. We got the king junior and it was perfect. Very clean and everything still appeared fresh and almost new. My only complaint-​or warning– is the air itself is so heavy with salt water, that you can even taste it in the shower. If you have a black or dark color vehicle, be forewarned about the sprinklers, as they are salt water as well. My car got sprayed in the morning and the water spots WOUL not come off. Had to have my car detailed when I got back and I can still see them. Park agaist the wall!
Other than that, I will absolutley be staying here again whenever I got up north.

A road trip to attend a family reunion with our parents and 3 dogs. My husband found this spot and I found it to be perfect. We had a ground floor near the exit door, I know they say for safety reasons not to get a room next to the exit, but this was convenient if you had pets you need to take out.
The room was equipped with the basic cooking and eating essentials, which was perfect since we were making a dish for the family reunion. We later discovered that the fridge had an ice maker in the freezer, so our search for an ice bucket was not needed.
There was a pull out bed, which was not the easiest to sleep on. One nights we used our airbed and then the other night we tolerated or maybe my husband, I should say suffered on the pull out bed.
With me having the sensitive nose, I could tell you the room did not have any previous pet odors, nor did it smell musty.
We arrived early, before check-​in time, and we were lucky the room was ready! The breakfast buffet, I heard was well stocked, yes, and a waffle maker. I didn’t actually get to go, but my husband brought back some eggs, sausages, and bagels. I made a breakfast bagel, it was great, the bagel was dense and moist, perfect!
After driving around the area, it is safe to say if you have missed packing something you will find it at one of the stores nearby. There is a Target, Office Max, K-​mart and grocery stores nearby.
We will keep this place in mind for our next visit.

This is much better than the Courtyard.
I just stayed at the Residence Inn as I was in Monterey for business. Unfortunately the rate at the Marriott was just a bit too high to justify staying there.
I was relieved that the Residence Inn was at least nicer than the Courtyard next door (that I won’t stay at again). I prefer the more spacious layout that Residence Inn offers.
It is definitely an entry-​level brand in the Marriott family and I have become increasingly aware of this fact as the beds just aren’t as comfortable once you get into this level of property. At least it was quiet and the people were friendly.

I love Residence Inn. My mother discovered the RI brand a couple of years ago and ever since, we stay in an RI if there’s one around. The rooms are suites so you have a living room area with a kitchen (fridges are nice when travelling). We stayed in the two bedroom suite here in Salinas. The room was extremely spacious, which helped to relax after a long day of driving. Other features of this place are: manager’s cocktail hour, free unlimited WiFi, swimming pool, basketball court, free parking, and breakfast.
