Courtyard Salinas Monterey

This place is nice compared to the other hotels around the area. The staff is very friendly and the housekeeping is pretty good. I don’t know what all the complaints are about. Some of these people are looking for the Ritz Carlton in a Motel 6. My experience was great and I would come back here again.

I am never, and I mean never, staying here again. This place, although it has a good name, seems to attract loud, rude guests. I’m not sure whether it’s the paper thin walls or the staffs indifference toward explaining to guests what quiet time means. I have stayed here on 2 separate occasions and it’s been the same each time.
NEVER, NEVER AGAIN.

I stayed in this hotel on a Friday night with friends while visiting the Central Coast. It’s about a 30 minute drive from Monterey, so while it’s not too far away from the coast, it’s not right on it either.
The hotel had free parking, but did not have free breakfast. We got a room with two queen size beds, which felt slightly cramped since one of the beds was right next to the wall with no room to get out. I also noticed that there was no fitted sheet on the bed and a flat sheet was used instead. While I know this makes it easier to change the bed between guests, it’s also easier for the sheets to come off completely and at one point I found myself partially laying directly on the mattress. I wasn’t too pleased with that.
It was also a really cold night and the blankets that were on the bed were more appropriate for very hot weather. I was hoping to find at least a semi-​thick comforter and did not find it here. Overall, the bed was acceptable, but nothing I would call really comfortable or above average.
I don’t regret staying here because I got a pretty decent deal on Priceline Express Deals, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again. However, if Priceline gives me another good deal to come back, I would be willing to stay here again.

Our experience has been less than desirable, all but one of the employees here have been either rude or inconsiderate. We booked our room 3 weeks in advance requesting the top floor and foam pillows. When we arrived we were told it doesn’t matter how far in advance you book your room they don’t give out the rooms until you arrive, so even though we booked before everyone else we got stuck with a 2^nd floor room. The pillows we requested were not delivered either, and the front desk staff has been rather rude about it all. The cleaning service changed the wrong towels and took all our hand and wash towels without replacing. The only reason they get a second star is because one of the managers was nice enough to give us extra rewards points and a sincere apology.

The staff is friendly, but as I sit here in my hotel room I can hear through the walls and clearly hear my neighbors TV (and it isn’t on all that loud). The carpet and rooms also smell pretty musty

Totally fed up with this place. Can’t tell if the employees are incompetent or crooked. Ultimately it doesn’t really matter because the result was the same.
Booked three rooms for out of town wedding party 10÷2−10÷4 (at $ 200/​night) I called ahead and asked if they could check in without me as we were mid-​wedding chaos and people were coming and going at different times. They said yes, and also let some of us drop off luggage before check in which they said they would put in our rooms for us.
When my bridesmaids arrived without me but with the reservation info and the card used to make the reservation, the Courtyard refused to check in without supplying their own credit cards. They assured them it was only for incidentals and they wouldn’t be charged.
They then wouldn’t let my sister in the same room they had put the luggage she dropped off earlier. I wasn’t there, but was told the employees were rude and things got kind of nasty and my sister and another bridesmaid were forced to sit in the lobby until 11pm while they figured out their mess. The manager Lisa called me the next day to apologize. She spoke to my sister and I thought everything had been cleared up.
That is until a week after the wedding when my sister finds out her credit card has been charged. My husband called the Courtyard the night we found out and tried to have them reverse my sister’s charge and charge our card. The person he spoke to was incredibly unhelpful and wouldn’t transfer him to the manager, Lisa, although they said she was there. After 40 MINUTES they said they would have Lisa call us tomorrow. WHY IS THIS SO DIFFICULT?
When I finally was able to track Lisa down (two additional days later) she was mildly apologetic. I asked her if the other bridesmaid who had given her card was charged and she assured me that she hadn’t been. Lisa emailed me a form to fill out with my credit card information. When I tried to reply, the email bounced back and said I couldn’t email to that address. AGAIN, WHY SO DIFFICULT TO MAKE A SIMPLE TRANSACTION?
I called back the next day, this has now been almost a week of trying to sort this out. I AGAIN ask her to make sure my other bridesmaid hasn’t been charged. I give the girl’s first and last name. Lisa assures me she hasn’t. Lisa tries to get me to fill out the form and email it again, but I insist on just giving her the info by phone just to make sure nothing went wrong this time.
Lisa told me she’d send me and my sister receipts when the transaction was finished. She even asked for my sister’s number so she could call and apologize. It’s been over a week, the transaction went through but neither my sister or I EVER received a receipt. Lisa also never called my sister to apologize.
The absolute kicker is when I found out the bridesmaid who Lisa assured me MULTIPLE TIMES had not been charged, had been charged $ 400. I’m not even bothering to try to contact the Courtyard and reverse that charge. It will be simpler to just cut my friend a check. Again, the incompetence of this place is baffling.
Cute, comfortable rooms and sweet memories of getting ready for my wedding give it two stars.

Absolute crap!
It feels like an old beatup motel with a remodeled Courtyard Marriott lobby.
1. Room was muggy and smelled like years and years of having been smoked in.
2. Shower is old and a huge crack in the wall, doesn’t drain so I’m standing in pooling water.
3. Wall paper is coming off the wall
4. Mold in the corner of the bathroom ceiling.
5. Sink has poor drainage.
6. Parking lot is tiny so I had to park in the neighboring Residence Inn.
7. Bed is old and feels like it was left over from the original motel.
Might as well save yourself some money and stay at a nearby motel.

Recently stayed here on our visit from the Garlic Festival. We wanted to stay in Monterey but everything was sold out or was 600+ for one night. So I settled for here at $ 320 a night with tax. If it wasn’t my boyfriends birthday weekend. There is absolutely no way I would have paid that much for a room. Especially for a more executive business type of room rather than luxury. But again we didn’t have many options. Some of the amenities and remodel looked very nice. But you could see where they went cheap on certain things or the contractors just did a booboo job. The elevator button was broken to go down on our floor. The ice machine went down in the middle of the night. Which was hard on me seeing that I was breastfeeding and pumping. So I needed ice to keep my milk cold. Since there was no refrigerator in the room for 280 something a night. I think that’s was cold blooded. But hey it is what it is. I did notice when we left that we had one of the nicer king room probably with more square feet and a large patio balcony. But I didn’t even go out there but one time to put my shoes to dry after I cleaned them. Plus the chairs that were out there were cheap and didn’t look very sturdy. They had a really nice indoor pool with a bistro/​lounge coffee area. I don’t know what you would call it. The staff was friendly enough. I just would never pay that much to stay there again. Take into consideration it was a weekend too.

It was our wedding weekend August 22^nd, 2015. We booked the top floor bridal suite and another suite for the groom October 29^th, 2014. I personally called in January to check on the reservation and they stated they couldn’t find it. We reviewed the email confirmation and they confirmed it was now alright. I called back around April and the same thing happened, our reservation was somehow lost again. By the time we hung up, it was confirmed… again. We booked the night of August 21^st and 22^nd in the grooms suite. We booked the night of August 21^st in the bridal suite and my mother booked the night of August 22^nd (In January 2015) so we could use the room the full day to get ready in. We talked to the manager and about 3 – 4 staff by phone throughout the months of January to June before we got fed up and came personally to the hotel on July 22^nd to confirm in person as to why there was so much confusion. The manager also saw how jumbled the reservation looked and made it right. I asked for a print out which is still in my records for proof.
Day before our wedding/​date of check in. We get a call at 9am in the morning stating the hotel double booked BOTH rooms and that we needed to move because the other folks were already in the rooms. They offered us the suite at the Residence Inn next door but this wasn’t going to work as our photographers would have had to go back and forth between two hotels instead of only two floors to take photos. We chose a conjoining room for the groom and a 2^nd floor suite for me, the bride. By the time we got into the suites, there was nothing we could do and we were very upset with how much chaos had gone into only 2 reservations.
My mother returned from our wedding at 9:30pm the night of the 22^nd. There were NO towels, the bed hadn’t been made and the room had not been cleaned. To not inconvenience staff, she went down to the lobby in her robe to ask for towels. She slept in a dirty room and there was nothing hotel staff did about this.
Check out time came for my mother, who had taken over the bridal suite the night of the 22^nd. The hotel staff stated that her son-in-law’s room was a disaster with furniture chipped and liquor everywhere. The bridal suite was ONLY slept in overnight by one person and the groom suite was only slept in overnight by one person. NOBODY stayed the evening of the 22^nd in the groom suite. It was only booked an extra night due to the fact that we needed it for the groom party to get ready in and take photos in. We have professional photos of the room they are saying was damaged the very minute it was left and NOT returned by anyone. This room was NOT damaged. We think it was the other groom that damaged his room and they told my mother this not knowing which groom she went with. Since our rooms had been switched, this makes sense as staff may not have been up to speed as to which groom was in which room.
Still VERY uncalled for when facts are not straight to tell my mother about damages that were not from our party.
I would never stay at the hotel again, I would never recommend others to stay at the hotel again. We had a terrible experience and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone else.

Terrific service, terrible housekeeping.
I travel a lot for business, and in the past year or two, Courtyard Marriott has become my go-​to hotel for business travel. They’re not fancy, but they consistently have good service, and they’re always clean. Until this weekend. I stayed at the Courtyard in Salinas, and it was pretty darn gross. Although the service was (as usual) terrific, the housekeeping was dreadful.
Some greatest hits:
(1) A torn Equal packet that was on the floor of my room when I arrived on Thursday was still there when I checked out on Monday (see pic);
(2) the bedspread had a weird pink stain (see pic);
(3) they (usually) removed dirty towels but didn’t replace them, so I completely ran out of towels by Sunday;
(4) they twice left soiled towels in the room (see pic);
(5) they did not replace empty shampoo bottle; and
(6) left hairy soap in the shower. (Ok, that one was kind of on me, but they still should have cleaned or replaced it. Just sayin.)
I will continue to stay at Courtyards, but not this one.

Everything about this hotel is mediocre at best.
The rooms are definitely dated and need remodeling. The bathroom faucet in my room leaks water. There’s no microwave or refrigerator in the room, unlike the equivalent Hampton Inns. The TV is adjacent to the bed, not facing the bed, so you can’t watch TV while laying in bed, totally weird. Wifi is not very fast. Parking is very difficult on a weekday. Rates are very high, close to 200/​night.
The staff are nice, but that’s about it.

Good access, right off the 101 freeway. Rooms are standard, clean. Bathroom is nicely decorated.
The pool is very warm — almost bath water temperature, very nice and relaxing. The pool area feels like a sauna.
Breakfast service is pretty slow. Waited almost half an hour after ordering before food came out — and this is just the standard breakfast plate with pre-​made eggs and sausage and muffin. When the breakfast came out, the sausages were missing. The eggs were kind of sad. All in all, pre-​prepared food that should not have taken over 20 minutes to serve. Don’t offer substandard food as part of the weddingn package — it’s an embarassment to the bride and groom.

Nice location, way better than the Oxnard one. Rooms are clean, staff is more professional. Thank you.

Price:
Very affordable rates. If you want to save a bit of money try to book ahead.
Location:
Very convenient, by the 101 freeway. There’s a wide variety of places to eat (Super Pollo has very large breakfast burritos), and places to shop (costco, kmart).
Room:
The room was fairly clean there wer some spots on the carpet, but I think that stain is permanent. The bracket to hold the security bar was broken, but other than that the room was a-​ok
Food:
The breakfast here is a bit pricey, but it’s convient and a-​ok tasty. Potatoes were nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The toast did not have butter on it, but it came on the side (I like the butter on the side). The eggs had a nice runny yoke and perfectly cooked egg white. The breakfast isn’t something I would normally get, but it was free.
Note: Breakfast here is better than the free breakfast at Residence Inn.
Issue:
Apparently there was accident witht he front desk and they allowed someone else access to my room. I spoke with management, and they apologized. But it was kind of embarrassing to yell at the guy coming in the room while you’re changing clothes. So I subtracted 1 star.
Concierge knowledge:
This is a little minor, but when I asked if there was a post office near by the front desk said no, but the would happily accept my mail and send on it’s way when the mailman came by. After doing some research on my phone I found a post office very close to the hotel.
Overall:
I think If I have business in the area again I’d like to try this location out again and see if my experience has change. Overall it’s A-​OK.

If sleeping is what you want from a hotel stay, you might not get it here.
I have never experienced such a lack of sound-​deadening in a hotel, and I have stayed in a LOT. You can hear conversations right through the walls.
The men next door have been talking loudly all night. It’s about midnight right now and I have a headache from listening to them. Even the a/​c fan doesn’t drown them out. I called the front desk — they said they would take care of it — seems like they might be quieting down. But I can still hear the guy with the cough… Wth kind of hotel is this?
The lobby is remodeled and looks really good; the employees are unusually friendly, perhaps in an attempt to ward off the complaints they know will be rolling in.
Very disappointing to throw away money like this… kwim?

Unilocal… The Courtyard Salinas Monterey is NOT a pet-​friendly hotel! They only allow service animals. Quit allowing this on your search options.

This was my first visit up to Salinas. To put things into perspective, the man sitting next to me on the plane, after telling him I was staying in Salinas, told me «not to go outside at night because of the heavy presence of gang members.» I thought to myself, «alright weirdo.» Once the lady at the grocery store knew I was from Southern CA and that I didn’t know the area, she said something to the same effect. I thought to myself, oh great. Good one Cyrus.
With that in mind, when I got to the Courtyard Marriot, I was rather surprised. It was near fairly upscale places in light of what I was expecting. There was an Orchid (sp?) right across the street, and about a block away from various stores, such as boot barn, office depot, Ross, Chevron, costco, etc. Most importantly, it was about a mile or two from Yogurtland… Score!
About the Hotel. As soon as i walked in, I noticed how friendly the staff was. I was greeted by a younger woman who was rather nice. I felt comforted immediately. Also, I think I ran into the manager a few times, a middle aged asian american gentleman. The first few times I figured it was coincidence, but then it got weird. Enough about that.
I booked a king suite, and couldn’t have been happier. I walked in and noticed the size. The room was more akin to an apartment than a room; it had a little mini kitchen (although the refrigerator was rather difficult to figure out), a living room, an office area that I like to consider the mancave, as well as a separate bedroom with a king size bed, tv, and a separate bathroom. Place was clean; the towels were set up in a nice little arrangement, the toilet paper was in place, and the bed/​pillows were decorated for one to look forward to a good nights rest. I didn’t get the vibe that a newly wed couple slept there the night before and staff didn’t clean the sheets (thank god).
Only 3 complaints, although complaints is a harsh word. First, while I was expecting to get a good nights rest, I heard strange animal noises at about 6am coming from outside. I thought, «what the hell is going on.» I looked out my bedroom window and, sure enough, there was a damn rooster house with what appeared to be 20 – 30 roosters. I couldn’t believe it. Suggestion — wear earplugs.
Secondly, the parking at night, at least when I stayed there (Tuesday night and Wednesday night), was full. I had to park around the corner and, with the thought of not going outside at night, I nearly peed myself.
Lastly, although I was not expecting them to have a 5 star restaurant, I did expect them to be able to prepare the entrees they had on the menu. I attempted to order dinner at about 6−7pm, one of the salads on the rather short menu. The gentleman working the restaurant/​bar indicated that they did not have the dressing, the pecans, or the chicken. With only 2 other choices on the menu, I decided to go else where.
Overall, the Courtyard Marriot was better than expected. Again, I wasn’t expecting much after what I was told, but I survived and had a nice place to sleep/​do work.

Courtyard Salinas is an affordable hotel to book when traveling up north. Mister had booked this hotel because he figured I’d be too chicken to camp out in a tent, and boy was I glad he did!

The Courtyard in Salinas was comfortable, clean and reasonably priced. The hotel location was close to restaurants and other amenities. I have never really stayed in Marriott being a Hilton diamond member, and there was no Hilton nearby this event so I stayed here with my other friends. This place has clean rooms and is well stocked for the cost.
There are no complaints aside from he hallway noise… There was some tour group stopping over here, otherwise this place is not bad at all for overnight… or few nights… They have a Starbucks serving breakfast bistro in the lobby which is nice, all types of coffee served here with numerous breakfast options, including a healthy menu… minimalistic décor, super friendly staff who were accommodating other customers. Its nearby fast food areas and there is a Kmart nearby! I haven’t seen one of these in over a decade…
I disagree with Michelle L’s review on here with K mart nearby the quality of people around here? People are either staying here to transit elsewhere or visiting… passing such judgement is unacceptable. This review pertains to a business and service, not locals and people staying here.

As a year-​after-​year Platinum Elite at Marriott (I stay at all varieties of Marriott’s a lot), I felt compelled to write my first review on Trip Advisor (in 2012) since this stay was so out-​of-​character and disappointing for me. I am sharing this here on Unilocal as context since I just recently reviewed both the Marriott Monterey and the Residence Inn Salinas on Unilocal.
My husband and I arrived early (around 11am) to see if we could check-​in on our way to the Coast. They said the earliest a room would be available was noon. We asked if we could at least check-​in to guarantee the best room available due to the Platinum Elite status. They said there was no problem as they already had our room blocked as such. When we arrived back at 5:45pm, we were assigned a room on the first floor. First off, I was surprised as I have a standing request for a high-​floor and it is normally honored. I didn’t say anything and just let it go as I normally have great luck with Courtyard.
We got to our room and the first thing I noticed was a big black mark across the floor leading into the main part of the room. Then I noticed how thin the walls were. We heard the people next to us as if they were in our room and it wasn’t comfortable. It was really awkward. We turned on the t.v. and we don’t even watch t.v. Later on, people came into their room above us and it sounded like they were going to fall through the ceiling. The walls are paper thin! It was so uncomfortable being in what felt like a glass room (thankfully not see-​through glass).
Other unusual things I noticed was that the sheets had permanent stains on them, the shower had hair in it and they only provided 2 towels. Normally Marriott standards are much higher than this.
The main reason I write this review is a reminder to myself to not stay here again. I recall I have been here 2 – 3 times total (+ once to the Residence Inn next door prior to this stay), so just don’t want to forget that it is not worth it to stay here.
