Wandered into this place around 5:00 for dinner killing time before a movie in Salida. We were greeted immediately and service was outstanding throughout the apps, drinks, dinner, dessert and coffee. Initially there were only a few others tables full and a few people at the bar but the ambiance was still good. The place quickly filled up and there was great energy. The warm spinach dip with grilled pita bread was excellent — lots of yummy garlic. Lots of local Colorado micro breweries to choose from which my husband liked. I ordered the burger of the day with had a tasty but not-spicy Cajun sauce. Husband had a ham/pesto sandwich which the warmed up for him when requested. Finished off by sharing a huge, warm, homemade brownie topped with ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate and carmel sauce. Great meal and great experience!

Excellent food and excellent service! The staff here is very nice and made great recommendations. I had the lobster queso and the French dip. Both were unbelievably delicious: wish I could give them 6 stars!

Tucked into the little town of Salida, Currents is a hidden gem that is great for an afternoon lunch after a beautiful Colorado mountain drive. My girl and I stopped in after viewing some fall colors. We had the special of the day burger which was cooked to perfection… to both of our tastes… mine medium and her’s well done. The staff is very pleasant and attentive and ready to recommend items to suit your mood. We had the Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale also and it is delicious! Please do yourself a favor and visit Currents.

The other weekend when my mother and I were in Salida, we actually went to Currents twice. The night we arrived, we were really craving steak, and after reading the reviews on Unilocal,we decided to hit Currents. I called them up to see what time they closed, as it was already almost 9PM. We made it just in the nick of time and were seated at a table near the back of the restaurant. Our server came up within a minute and we ordered a bottle of white wine. She shared the specials, but we both decided to get the(only) steak on the menu, the NY strip steak. Until this week, I have never been to a restaurant with only one cut of beef. You also get to choose how you would like your potatoes– we both chose mashed. To start, I had french onion soup, which was super, super great and soothing. We both ordered our steaks medium-rare and they were cooked perfectly. We both asked for char-crust(or Pittsburgh style, if you may), which was done excellently. I also had blue cheese on top of mine, which resulted in a very tasty NY strip steak! I usually order filets, so this was a bit of a branch out to me, but ended up being great. The mashed potatoes were good and our«vegetable» served with the steaks was corn. The corn tasted good, but was very cold when served to us. That was the only not so good part about the entire meal. We also bought a bottle of wine to go, as we weren’t sure if a liquor store would be open that late(I never know the times things close in mountain towns.), so our server gladly helped us. She was wonderful and we had a great experience! It was an interesting restaurant because it is a bar, in a sense, and not your«classic» wine and dine steakhouse. On other notes, we went back to Currents the next day because the server from the night before told me they had good Bloody Marys. And oh, did they! Check out my review of Currents’ Bloody Mary here: My mother and I split a veggie wrap for lunch, which was fresh and full of an array of veggies, along with fries. It was a nice, light meal to prepare us for whitewater rafting.

A little pricey, especially for the look of the restaurant, but the food is phenomenal! I had the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. My husband the steak and fresh veggies. We both were amazed at the tastes and food like it was cooked from a legit chef. Not the typical fried frozen food most bar/grills serve. They brew their own beers like most places in Salida, but we didn’t try them. Nothing sounded appealing at this visit. The only cons I would note are that they hand wash the pots and pans, just not my thing, I’d rather see them throughly sanitized in a dishwasher, but kitchen space seems already too cramped. And the food is a bit pricey. But overall good experience. Wait staff was pleasant and even when the place was packed everything still came out quickly.

The food and drinks were great. Service not so much. We waited almost 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us at the door and were told it would be a 10 minute wait. After about 30 minutes we were finally seated. I know they can’t predict exactly how fast someone will eat there food and there seemed to be an extraordinary number of lingerers. After we ordered we waited and waited and were finally told the printers went offline so our orders never made it to the kitchen. The whole ordeal took almost 2 hours from the time we walked in the door. Food was good but definitely not worth 2 hours of waiting.

Good experience! Good food! Within a minute my server approached and was friendly. He explained the tap menu with great detail. Immediately noticed at 1800 the restaurant was ¼ full and the noise level was pretty loud. I ordered the white wine mussels to start. Got them in about 7 minutes. And they were fantastic. Dove in before could grab a pic. Notice the bite out of the bread. Restaurant was about half full now and noise level noticeably louder. I ordered the 2am Burger Special. Hope the servers recommendation was right!?! Overall this place is clean and friendly. The kitchen is open with a seating bar across the front of it. Burger was good. My only complaint was I ordered it medium and it was definitely cooked well done. This country boy likes juices in his meat! Regardless it was tasty and I can’t complain too loudly. Overall 4 Stars and No Antacids! If the burger was medium I would have given 5 Stars.

A favorite. They now offer half portions of multiple entrees, which makes my day. Some great entrees and appetizers. Great selection of regional beers, wines and distilled spirits. Sometimes have music, which can verge on the mediocre but is still fun. Always friendly and caring service — and sometimes easier to get into than some of the other popular Salida hangouts. Highly recommended.

We happened upon this place on sushi night. They have this once a month and guess what… we came on the right night. The edamame was tasty and the rolls we chose were on point. Who would have thought… sushi in Colorado but it was a pleasant surprise.

We had a GREAT time at Currents. Our server did not mind a bit moving us away from the door(very cold day), and the food was incredible! I had the beef stroganoff and my fiancé’ had a steak. Both were done perfectly. The beers and mixed drinks were fantastic as well. Diamond was managing and he came around to ensure all guests were happy, which they were. We are anxious to return to Currents.

My fella and I were cruising through Salida on our way back to Denver, and after walking through the town and checking out several options, we decided on Currents. I loved the feel of the place. It’s old timey western saloon, meets present day comfort. We were psyched about the vast selection of local Colorado beers & spirits as well as the diverse menu. The staff was very welcoming and the service was just the right amount of attentive. We experienced a tiny hiccup with the ordering of our food. The way I see it, we all have an off day, regardless of our profession, and the staff here went above and beyond to repair a mistake that we were ready to roll with. The chef came out to let us know he was redoing the order and although we were fine, he insisted on making things right. He said, ‘that’s not the kind of business we do here.‘ It was really refreshing to see a staff so committed to giving the best experience possible, and doing everything they could to make up for a small oversight. When our food came out, in a very timely fashion I might add, everything was delicious and we were left very happy and satisfied. To top it off, when we got our bill we found that almost half of it had been discounted. This was totally not necessary, but a really generous gesture. These guys care about the service and product they are putting out. We will definitely be back during our next visit to Chaffee County.

Seafood capellini and the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes were quite tasty. Lots of colorado and even local brews, wines and spirits. Lively atmosphere and even a college football game if you interested in wAtching. Thumbs up from us. One suggestion to the owners. Add two small pieces of toast w the capellini. The sauce is outstanding but need something to soak it up.

Out of all the places we’ve eaten in Salida, this has been the best. A very small menu, but our party of 5 found something satisfying all the way around. My favorite was the large wine & beer selection; especially the«Happy Camper» wine!
