History

Established in 2002.

Glance Optics and Eyewear is Salem’s première optical boutique. Glance joined Salem’s downtown thriving businesses in 2002, and was purchased by Their Optician, Lisa Martinsson, a few years later. Glance isn’t just about selling eyewear. Glance offers each of its customers a personal consultations to find the perfect frame to create the perfect look and feel for each individual. Glance specializes in advanced lens design and technology, and offers unique frame selections from all over the world. Glance was awarded an architectural merit award for its beautiful interior design work. Glance is also a member of the following business organizations: Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, West Salem Business Association, and Keizer City of Commerce. Located at 330 Court Street and open M-​F 10 – 6, with weekend appointments available.

Business Owner

Lisa Martinsson is an optician and the owner of Glance in downtown Salem. With a an education in graphic design and a passion for making people look beautiful she is truly living her life’s dream. Lisa’s strong desire for fitting people into the perfect eyewear runs deep, and was born out of painful memories of her experience as a little girl with poor eyesight. She spent her childhood years wearing awkward thick framed glasses that were way too big for her face. Lisa has taken her knowledge of graphic design and merged artistry and optics, creating balance and harmony between the frame, the lenses, and each individual person’s facial structure. Lisa also understands the importance of lifestyle and personality when helping them find the perfect fit. Lisa’s motto is «I feel good in my skin, and I love helping others do the same.»

Glance Eyewear, the best place in the Willamette Valley for glasses period! Lisa not only carries the best frames around coupled with the best technology, she and her crew actually make any pair of glasses more comfortable.

If I could give Glance Optics and Eyewear zero stars I would. Quite simply I will never ever do business there nor will I ever recommend anyone to do business there. I stopped in the other day looking for a replacement screw for my sunglasses as the small screw that holds the arm to the front had stripped out. I have my own set of small screwdrivers and it’s a basic, no-​brainer repair, so all I needed was a small screw, when in fact I did get screwed. When I pleasantly asked the woman behind the counter if they had any spare screws for my glasses, which I would happily pay for, thinking it would be a dollar or two she said it would cost $ 10 for the repair charge! I told her nicely I did not need the glasses repaired, I only needed the small screw and I can do the repair myself she still told me it would be a $ 10 charge! I then asked her if it’s possible just to buy the screw and not have them repair it, once again she said it would cost $ 10 regardless because she had to «look for the screw». Needless to say I wasn’t too impressed. I told her I thought that was ridiculous, and she said, «had you bought the glasses here it would be a different situation. «I am not sure if she’s ever heard of the idea of making and keeping customers but apparently that is a foreign concept. In a small town such as Salem where there is little competition perhaps they think they can get away with this type of behavior, this would never fly from where I’m from originally (a bigger city with more options and more competition) and I’m shocked that she wouldn’t be more interested in making and keeping new clients. All in all a very Bad taste left in my mouth.

I went in to Glance Optics and Eyewear several weeks ago to look at frames. They had the best frame choices of any I’d seen and their customer service was outstanding. They are truly looking for what both looks great on you and what you are comfortable with. They educate you about the little things that many opticians don’t notice, such as fit on the bridge of your nose for plastic frames or the specific reasons they might choose one frame over another, e.g., width, how it looks with your skin tone, how the arch of the frame aligns with your brow, etc. They are passionate about helping their customers find glasses that their customers love and that are right for them. You can tell they are very good at what they do and love doing it. You don’t get any sense of someone needing to make a sale. The person helping me even advised me that since they aren’t a preferred provider for my insurance, there might be a penalty in my benefits. It turned out there was, so it wasn’t financially practical for me to purchase through Glance, but it was truly the best experience I’ve had ever shopping for frames.

I went because the site stated they carried Oakley. I was awkwardly welcomed, as two other people stared at me. Only to be rudely told they don’t carry Oakley since 2007. The lady then began stating they are the same any more at the sale to another manufacture. I was then quickly shushed out with the feeling I wasn’t good enough for her glasses.

I was in salem recently for the BMW MOA motorcycle rally. I live in Wisconsin. One of the nose pieces fell off my glasses. Knowing that they were designer frames, I knew better than t go to Walmart or Costco. We found an independent eye doctor and went there. they didn’t have what I needed but called Glance. They had what I needed. We rode down there, walked in and they replaced both nose pieces with new «prima donna» nose pads. yes they have a special name. (I won’t tell you what my husband said!) They were replaced at no charge. Thanks

The people at Glance are awesome!
My glasses were stepped on today and were in pretty bad shape. I brought them in to Glance, hoping they could be repaired. As they were being repaired, they helped me to pick out a new set of frames, as my prescription had changed, and it was time for a new pair anyway. I am terribly indecisive, and the lady helping me was very patient, and helped me to pick the perfect pair.
I really appreciate the fact that they are honest and tell you if something doesn’t look good!
The gentleman that repaired my mangled old glasses is a magician! In just a few minutes, he managed to repair them to look brand new!
Thank you so much, Glance! I can’t wait to pick up my new glasses!

The enthusiasm to assist in finding the right frame for you abounds at Glance. They are very nice and fun to work with; they care about your eye wear needs. If you time it correctly and have the time to match schedules, you’d probably be able to meet up with a frame rep who has many more frames to view besides the great selection already in both locations.
Pricey; yes, because all eye wear is that way these days.
