History

Established in 1979.

The Uptowner Café has been in the McCarty family for over 30 years. Kyle McCarty has owned The Uptowner for the last 7 years. Kyle took over after working in the restaurant his entire life.

In 1979 Peter McCarty and Holly McCarty bought The Uptowner and started running it. Holly was pregnant with Kyle at this time so you could say this restaurant is in his blood. After successfully running the restaurant for 5 years Peter and Holly leased the restaurant to Peter’s brothers John and Steve McCarty. They ran it successfully for over 20 years and moved on to open their own restaurants around the Twin Cities. Kyle took over in 2006 and has run it successfully ever since.

Kyle is currently in Taichung, Taiwan preparing to open another Uptowner Café. Dan Lallas (Kyle’s Business Partner in St. Paul) is currently managing operations in Saint Paul.
