It was very slow in the restaurant last Friday evening. I ordered in person and asked the young lady for the«Family Feast for Two» to go, with a couple substitutions. A different young lady handed me my food and it didn’t contain the substitutions I had requested. When I made this observation, she said«we don’t do that». Well, Famous Dave’s HAD done that at a different restaurant, and the first young lady had taken my order, so yes, Famous Dave’s DOES do that. It seems to me that they could have handled this a little better, in a more customer-friendly way. Oh, and when I got the food home, I discovered that the chicken was pretty dry. Overall, a disappointing experience for the money we paid.

If you can order ahead, it’s to your advantage. Because I’m pretty darned good at making my own barbecue, we don’t go out for it much. Honestly, Dave’s is not our first… or third choice… when we do go out for it. What Dave’s does right are the rib tips and the St. Louis style ribs. These dishes are wonderful and we always end up eating too much when we have them. Fortunately, my hubby and I plan our calorie count for the day to include this indulgence. We have yet to enjoy the baby back ribs. They’re always overcooked and not pleasurable to eat. So, from now on, we’ll be avoiding this. We enjoy the variety of sauces, especially, the hot ones to sample while we’re eating. Even the boy has started to develop a taste for hot foods, so Dave’s is a safe place to experiment. Mixing the Sweet & Sassy with either the Devil’s Pit(name?) or the new one that has habanero peppers in it is a nice way to get the heat without overdoing it. Be judicious in the amount of hot sauce you add to the mild because it doesn’t take much for either of the hot ones to overpower your palate. If you aren’t prepared for this, it could ruin your meal. I believe that you can have an enjoyable meal here if: You avoid the side dishes other than the fries and steamed broccoli. We’ve tried all the rest, and they aren’t worth having. My husband says that the beans are alright. I don’t eat baked beans, so I’ll have to take his word for it. Then avoid the baby back ribs. You are home free to a filling, delicious meal if you follow these steps.
