The mister and I ate here in early January and had a fantastic time. We went on a Saturday evening with no reservation and were seated at the sushi bar. Our server, Dalena, was excellent and helped recommend a few drinks and rolls for us. We started out with an order of edamame. Tani serves it with a lemon slice on top and it really added some nice flavor. We, of course, had to try the Oh My God roll. It tasted great and the flaming presentation was really fun. We also had the David Backes roll on Dalena’s suggestion. I don’t recall everything that was in it, but it was FANTASTIC! And it’s one of their special celebrity rolls, where part of the proceeds are donated to a charity(Adopt-A-Pet for this one). We finished our meal with an amazing dessert. I don’t remember what it was called, but it had chocolate and bananas in egg roll wrapper, served with ice cream. Amazing! One of my favorite sushi restaurants serves a bananas tempura that we love, but this was even better. I’d come back just to eat it. Great service, validated parking, and an excellent environment. We’ll definitely be back!

The hostess was extremely rude. Won’t be back. She needs to learn to smile and be civil.

Our favorite sushi and the Steven Jackson roll is by far the best roll I’ve ever had. Highly recommended and you won’t be disappointed.

Let me start by saying I normally love Tani and have had several very good meals there. However last night was ridiculous. We had a reservation for 8:30. We didn’t get seated until almost 10PM. To quote Seinfeld: «they know how to take the reservation, but apparently don’t understand how to HOLD the reservation»… The excuse was that people weren’t leaving but we watched as several walk-ins were able to get seated prior to us. We know this because we were all bitching at the bar about the wait. So apparently a walk-in gets the same — if not better — treatment than somebody who actually takes the time to plan ahead. Totally ruined our night as we had to stand around the bar and $ 100 of over-priced drinks later we had basically lost our appetite. I’ll be back but if it happens again I’m done.

My favorite sushi restaurant, not only in STL, but anywhere(and I live in NYC!). Steven Jackson and OMG Rolls are worth coming back in town for lol. I make a habit of going to Tani every time I come in town and will be doing it again for my bday next month. The new location looks great and I’ve always had great service as well.

We fell upon this restaurant after going to another higher Unilocal rated Sushi location; the«other» place had NO atmosphere and smelled like smoke. Soooo we were happy to be in this high design building/restaurant. Having no reservations we waited in bar for about 10 mins and bar table opened up so we receive great service immediately. Server was extremely helpful in ordering and attentive to us for the entire evening. We were«talky» and didn’t realize they were closing — our valet was waiting with our car out front. Great experience and great sushi! Maybe with a lot of bad service Unilocal reviews management hired more servers! Ours was perfect!

First, really good sushi and cool space. But the service was terrible and the place wasn’t even crowded. I don’t even know where to start. We were seated and then waited 15 min before we ever saw our waitress. We ordered drinks and they never came so(after another 15 minutes), I walked over to bar and picked them up myself. It’s really too bad. As I said, the sushi is really good. I hope they can sort it out. But based on the above, I likely won’t be back.

Came here on a Monday night for dinner and it was packed! Very popular spot with friendly staff and good service. Decided to try the OMG roll because how often are rolls lit on fire? The roll had a smoky flavor but left more to be desired. If you’re a first-timer, try it, but I think I might skip it next time. The«Hot Rock» beef appetizer was tasty but a bit pricey for what you get. We finished it in 5 minutes. Extensive selection of rolls and sushi/sashimi. Very delicious and recommended. Would I go again? YES! This place is great for: Sushi rolls /Variety To do: –Make a reservation

I have ate at over 1000 sushi eateries abroad and this is still my favorite of all time! Finally had the pleasure of dining at the new location and loved it! The Oh My God and Carpenter roll are my favorites!!! Keep up the good work as I’ll be back soon!

The new location is a very pretty space, and it was nice to park in the garage and have parking validated. We showed up right at opening time for lunch, and it was freezing! I didn’t warm up the entire meal. Chicken Teriyaki Lunch Box = 5/5, Great value(rice, chicken terriyaki, California roll, vegetable tempura, shrimp tempura, house salad) Tani Nigiri Combination = 5/5, My friend ordered this, I didn’t taste it, but he really liked it, and again, the serving size looked like a great value for what we paid

Paid $ 9 for Sapporo on tap in a small bud light glass. Didn’t get half of what I ordered. Sushi was one notch above gas station quality. If you want sushi that they light on fire this place is for you!

Tani is good. This new location looks cleaner and the taste of the food has also improved. I love going for lunch to get a lunch box. I always do teriyaki salmon with vegetable and shrimp tempura. Very yummy and hot! My favorite rolls are the OMG roll and Miami roll. Both are delicious! I’m happy they have this new space because they outgrew the last one. Good luck to them!

I consistently have a great dining experience at Tani, the sushi is top notch and all of the servers are very friendly. I always recommending asking what their favorite roll is because it prompts you to try other kinds! If you cannot get a table, don’t fear the bar! It’s great fun sitting and chatting with the bartenders– even as a group. It adds a dynamic to the conversation. The oh my god roll is a staple here, it comes out on fire and has you saying«oh my god». I also recommend the Stan the Man roll and the James Lauranitus roll, both are phenomenal with great texture and flavors. I do not think you can go wrong with a roll at Tani.

They gave us one menu for two people. Then no server ever came to our table. Another table came in after is and got service right away. I mean I can understand if they were busy and not getting to us right away but there was a whole 6 customers in there. I left. Super un satisfied. I didn’t even mention that the one menu they gave us had old beer on it. Gross! Every employee looked like they had the worst day ever. Atmosphere was distasteful. I won’t be back. Ended up walking to wasabi down the street.

Okay beside the fact that it took me 2 weeks to get through on the phone after the move to the new location, this place was fantastic! Yes I was trying to make reservations for my wife’s birthday and new they had moved but their phone kept ringing and ringing. Finally did get through and reservations were kept as promised. This location is right next to Pastaria in the heart of Clayton. Parking is just above the restaurant in the garage and YES they do validate parking! When you first walk in you think you’re in VEGAS not a sushi restaurant. Very modern and chic décor. The customer’s walking in were definitely dressed the Vegas part. Thank god I brought a change of clothes after running the 80’s/90’s Fun Run in Forest park that evening. We ordered almost everything on the menu and somethings twice. My only 2 complaints were 1) the sushi menu was a little difficult to follow. The names rarely help you with what is in the roll, 2) Some of the portions were a little small. That being said the quality of the food was excellent. The roll that stands out the most of course is the flaming Oh My God roll. The fire added just the right amount of smokiness to the sushi that was quite unique. Overall an excellent place to dine on wonderful sushi and people watch! Definitely dress up if you plan on dining on a Friday or Saturday night, as the«pretty» people definitely come here to be seen.

I love the new location! It feels like NY or LA. All the servers are working hard as they have made the shift to this beautiful new venue. I have been eating at Tani for the last 2 years and I have observed how the staff works as a synchronized team to deliver the best sushi in St. Louis. See you there.

Might be the best sushi joint in STL. It’s expensive, but the best sushi places are. Nigiri was fresh and wonderful. They, like every sushi place, will try and get ya with the gooey rolls, non-fish fare, and other general gimmicks, but they do all that while delivering top quality sushi – the real raw fish. Trendy, of course, but the servers weren’t pretentious, so it works for a really good experience.

Went here on a Monday. Didn’t think to make a reservation, so we arrived at 7:30 without one. Man in charge said it would be 15 – 20, waited at the bar for 30. Bartender was very nice, attentive and made great drinks! Love the cocktail menu-the sex appeal was delicious! After seeing 2 other couples get sat I approached the host stand and we were sat within 5 minutes, leading me to believe they either forgot about us or didn’t have a wait list. After we got sat, we sat for almost 15 minutes with no service. I had to go to the host again and finally Nolan came over. He was very apologetic and seemed to want to make up for it but he didn’t. We immediately placed our order, an app of scallops and 2 rolls and he was never back. The scallops were delicious, lite and cooked appropriately served over asparagus. The OMG roll was delicious, served flaming at the table. There was no soy sauce and our server was nowhere so I grabbed soy sauce off another table, we also had no napkins and drinks were empty. The food was great so I’m willing to give it another try but not anytime soon. Besides our server being absent, about 2 bus boys and 3 servers walked and almost bumped into our table for those 15 minutes. Oh and our server lost my card for about 10 minutes before coming back to our table. Clearly a lot is missing here.

Love the new location; Tani needed a facelift and this spot is a good look. Located in the Plaza Shops next door to Pasteria. Melanie was dry, inattentive and lacked personality. Brought the sushi out but we had to ask for wasabi and sauce… ummmm isn’t it standard when you order sushi for the server to place the sauce & such at your table in preparation for dining? Yeah, I thought so too. Melanie didn’t. Brew was awesome, helpful and full of spunk. I believe he’s the manager; he answered al of my questions about the new location without hesitation. They have only been here a few days so there was no parking validation as of this writing. However, I certain this issue could have been resolved prior to opening. This is an amenity offered by the other restaurants, Tani should have had this settled for customer appreciation and satisfaction. Call me petty but it’s the small details that I look into. The food was delicious. The ambiance was beautiful. I like the open yet intimate feel. Valet is only $ 4 I’ll be back when they’re validating, lol… I’m joking. I’ll be back regardless. Good upgrade Tani.
