Best«Fast-Food» fried chicken in the area. Also has great seafood options. Sides are okay overall. Definitely get value for what you pay for.

We love this place! We started coming here for catering and larger orders. Calling a few days ahead to order is recommended for large groups and their prices are great. People always compliment their fried chicken. Their sides are decent but nothing to write home about compared to the fried chicken.

Always want to try the fish but I end up leaving with the chicken and fried okra. Best chicken I’ve had in a while but Goody Goody just barely edges Porters out

Good chicken, too pricey and you pay extra to sub fries for mash potatoes. Shrimp and gizzards were a disappointment.

This is usually my go to place to get chicken for all occasions. This time the chicken wasn’t great at all. We ordered the 100 pc ½ & ½(reg/spicy). It was very dry & over cooked. But since this was my first issue I’m willing to over look it. Maybe they were really busy yesterday or something. I do believe in 2nd chances… I will see you very soon for SB-50!

Came here per recommendation by a coworker — a true southern gentleman in his 50s(he knows his fried chicken). Unfortunately, my brother and I were met with disappointment. Maybe we over-hyped it in our minds during the short 5 minute drive from our apartment to Porters. The first sign of a problem came as soon as we opened the box — apparently fried chicken breast and wings comes with a chunk of FRIEDFEATHERS as well. feathers aside, our boxful of half breast, half wings were left unfinished because they were seriously bland. We left pondering philosophical questions like if we were the weirdos expecting good fried chicken to be flavorful.

Great chicken at a very good price. The only reason why they get 4 stars is because they screwed up my order. I ordered 1 leg, 1 wing, 1 thigh… spicy, and then 1 breast and 1 thigh regular. Picked up the order and I had 2 wings, 1 leg, 1 thigh… spicy, and 2 thighs regular. Still a better deal than Gus’s and great tasting chicken. Total was $ 8.50 with taxes.

This is really a great place to go if you’re looking for delicious chicken at reasonable prices. Fried chicken is so trendy right now, it feels like specialty restaurants are popping up everywhere. Porters has been in Maplewood forever, and it’s still my favorite chicken in the city! Make sure to get the spicy version. It takes longer but it’s so worth the wait. Crispy, juicy, and spicy, just the way fried chicken should be. My only criticism, and I know this is being nit-picky, but I would love to see another vegetable on their menu besides coleslaw. It’s just not my favorite. I’d love green beans or corn maybe.

Well, darn it… I tried the 2 pc Catfish meal and… the doggone fish wasn’t done in the middle. Ugh! Needless to say, couldn’t eat it. The reason they get 2 stars is because I called up there about it and was given an apology and comped meal on my next visit. Good job on the customer service.

This is great place for some great chicken. Sort of what would happens if KFC met the old Charlie Chicken that was on West Florissant Ave(for my north side and north county ppl). You go there for the chicken… bc the sides are subpar i.e. mashed potatoes and coleslaw. I got them once in a meal and never got them again Chicken: 4.5÷5… Like I said… its solid chicken that’s always hot and fresh and the batter is on point Fried Chicken Gizzards: 2.5÷5 The batter makes them taste better than the really should. Nowhere near as good as Lee’s chicken gizzards It’s usually from: a nice crowd of customers to packed. every time I go. Overall 4⁄5 I would recommend Porters over Gus Fried Chicken, hands down if you’re in Maplewood and want great chicken

Gross. Really, people? The chicken is completely bland. Not to mention, when I want fried chicken, good sides are ALWAYS a part of that, no exceptions. After all, who wants to eat JUST chicken on it’s own? No one. I want mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans! CHOICES! and good ones!!! I am pretty sure their mashed potatoes are the powder kind, they are completely disgusting. And their cole slaw? Blah. It’s like they just buy their(2) sides in bulk from Sam’s and only make sub-par chicken in house. We will never order this chicken again.

Nice staff. Always get catfish sandwich, made fresh. Better value for dollar than going up the street to KFC.

Chicken was cooked well but has no Flavor. Needed salt. Sides are not good. Fries are bland. Mashed potatoes — you get better at Kfc. Coleslaw is incredibly sweet. And I like sweet coleslaw. Really disappointing. Prices are good though and the service was Friendly. Truthfully I would rather get fast food chicken. Oh And the rolls were stale. My husband literally didn’t finish his chicken. He was very let down lol

I have been at this place several times. When I feel like having fried chicekn, this is the only spot that comes in mind. I used to live closer to that location and patronized the place a lot. Since I moved over 2 yrs ago, I still am not willing to find a replacement, so I don’t mind making the drive :). I usually get the chicken but also had the shrimp once. Too much breading on the shrimp, quality of shrimp is severely lacking straight waste of money, ugh! Tnis is a chicken place, I appreciate the thoughtfulness of having a diverse menu, but the seafood on the menu needs major improvement… Chicken never let me down though, it is so delicious and perfectly seasoned, my mouth is watering as I think about that chicken! The rolls served with each order are flaming as well! I would suggest they serve better fries, that olé crinkled, straight-out-of-a-frozen-bag, I-didn’t-really-have-a-choice type of fries is not cutting it. Awful to say the least. But I am content with my wings and rolls, can’t go wrong with those 2 items:))

Great fried chicken. We will definitely go back. It is more of a take and go but the spicy chicken is the best I have had.

The BF and I weren’t in the mood to cook and we’ve been really indecisive lately, so we took to Unilocal, found this place, and took your advice to get takeout from this place. Thank you, Unilocal. This was an EXCELLENT decision. We called ahead to order a 4-piece special box(2 legs, a thigh, and a breast) and a chicken liver meal. When we arrive 15 minutes later to pick it up, it was ready to go. The parking lot was packed and there were other people waiting inside, as well. It only took a few minutes to get our food and get back out of the lot. If you’ve never been, the parking lot is a little weird and part of it is reserved for the nearby laundromat. We’d been referred to other local acclaimed fried chicken places that we weren’t so impressed with. Within one bite, we immediately knew Porter’s was giving us something much, much better. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The mashed potatoes, like another reviewer said, did have a school cafeteria quality, and by that I mean a really enjoyable denseness, but not in the way that instant mashed potatoes are dense. The gravy that came on them was delicious – great flavor and almost«light» tasting. Neither of us have ever had fried chicken livers before, so we aren’t really sure how they rank up. They were a little dry and has an almost chalky texture(but is that how fried chicken livers always are?). The BF said the coleslaw was a little on the sweet side but good, and also enjoyed the potato salad. The price was good($ 17 for two meals, no drinks), the location is very convenient for us, and the service was prompt. We didn’t stand at the counter more than a couple of minutes, just long enough for us to pay the check and pick our bag up off the counter. If you are in the Richmond Heights/Maplewood area, this is definitely a place to check out. I’m sure we’ll be going back. PS: There’s also a pretty cool signed jersey from Wainwright calling this the best fried chicken in town.

We are on a search for the best fried chicken place in St. Louis, what I dislike about our current favorite are the limited options outside of fried chicken. Porters brings a lot to the table, literally, I wanted to try everything on the menu it all sounded so good! The fried chicken itself was delicious and with our sides, we had leftovers for days, on top of the fast and friendly service Porters was well worth the drive from North county and we will be back.

I love Porters Chicken!!! You can’t go wrong with the fried chicken… absolutely delicious!!! The fried gizzards, livers and okra are also very good. The coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy are OK, wish they would improve on those rolls.

This has been my go to place for fried chicken since I was a little boy. In addition to fried chicken they have great fish(cod, jack salmon, catfish), shrimp, chicken tenders, and sides of mashed potatoes. It’s all cooked to order and very reasonable. I suggest calling orders in ahead of time as you will wait about 10 – 20 minutes if you wait to order at the counter. My family has ordered 100 pieces of chicken at a time for parties and it’s always a big hit. Porter’s is located in a small strip mall next to a laundrymat and a billiard-themed bar.

Porters does chicken well, but they lost a star for their Cod Fish. The pieces were square. I wanted the catfish, but was informed it would be a 20 minuet wait. To save time, I went with Cod. Big mistake, not only was it square, but had a greasy nasty taste. I’ve heard good things about the catfish, so next time I will order ahead, so I will not have to wait. We also enjoyed the Chicken Tender Dinner tonight and it was a winner. It included four huge pieces of white meat chicken, that were crispy and juicy. These tenders were way better then those you’d get at any other fast food type business. My bad choice of Cod Fish caused them a star, but I am confident once I experience the Catfish the stars will go back up.
