Almost every time I visit my boyfriend in St. Louis we come get sushi here. The miso soup is solid, and the sushi is excellent. We always split 4 rolls, with 3 that we get every single time: The Imperial Guard roll(but we get it without eel), the Volcano roll, and the Hurricane roll. I highly recommend trying these. The Imperial Guard and Volcano come out on plates with fire and the server puts them out with some water. We always change it up with the 4th choice and have never really tried one that knocks it out of the park as much as our 3 favorites. The staff is always nice and very attentive. Downside is that we do think this place is pretty expensive.

The food here was good. They have sushi as well as fried rice. Both are overpriced for what their quality should otherwise dictate. Last time I went there was in 2009. I ordered 3 rolls of sushi and a side of fried rice. This experience is why I will never be back. My friend ordered the same. (1) I stipulated– a «side» of fried rice. The waitress took my order. When our food came– we each had a giant portion of fried rice. (2) they had given us entrée size fried rice. For the both of us. We are both 95lb girls. Petite. I told the waitress about it– and she said– there is no side or appetizer portion of fried rice. I said– if We had known that– we wouldn’t have ordered it. She said very nicely that she would get the owner. (3) I said no need– just please send it back. We haven’t touched it. This is too much food. She brought the owner who denied my request to allow us to send it back– despite my explanation. She said– you should’ve read the menu. I said– I looked at what I wanted in terms of sushi– then closed the menu and asked for rice with it. (4) bottom line– we were eat charged $ 20 for fried rice. That’s $ 40. The owner tried aggressively to get the waitress to pack it up for us and I said I have no choice but to pay for it– but I will not take it with me.(I felt she would feel justified or more ok with her actions if we took it) We then tipped the very nice waitress 20% of the dinner check AFTER deducting $ 40 from it.

We ordered our food at 12:45 and it’s still not here at 2:00pm. Slow and inefficient service.

Uni is soft, fresh, and sumptuous. Unagi is high quality. Simple atmosphere, good list of cold Saki, friendly staff, focused and to the point service. Allows for enjoyment of dinner company and excellent sush. Recommend!

The service here is great and very friendly, however, their food is not good. I got the Fuji and the Las Vegas roll, and the salmon was not fresh and the smoked salmon was over-smoked and tough. I also thought there are too much rice in the rolls.

Good, straightforward casual downtown Suishi. Big open space on Washington Ave. in a nice area. I am glad it is in such a central location in this area. We go here for lunch as it’s near our office and everyone generally enjoys the food and atmosphere. Our service was friendly and appropriately quick with taking order and delivering food, however, they were slow to delivery check and to handle the payment. Lunch deals are $ 10-$ 15, plus soup and tea brought lunch for 2 to $ 50, which is high. Rolls were good, albeit small. Sushi pieces however, were so-so. Albacore Tuna was NOT sushi grade and a bit tough. I agree with the other reviews that they«try hard.» As for food quality, I wish they would«try harder.» BETTERSUSHI: Nippon Tei(West County), The Ritz Lobby(Clayton), Tani Sushi Bistro(Clayton), SubZero Sushi and Vodka Bar(CWE.)

Service was extremely slow. Disappointing sushi. I had to question the toro, as it’s usually buttery and melts in your mouth. This was covered In a sweet sauce and the fish wasn’t buttery.

I don’t think there is a roll on the menu that is not delicious. This is my favorite sushi place in the downtown area. It’s definitely my favorite overall but I say this not having a few sushi places in the county. I just wish more people knew how awesome this place is so they can fill it up and support the business. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed. Oh and I should also mention that they probably have the best happy hour downtown as well so get there before 6:00 and see what I’m talking about. Mmmmmm…

This place tries hard, and the sushi is okay, but something is not working here. The staff is very friendly seemed very concerned that we enjoy our meal, and the space is your normal sushi restaurant vibe, but there are also TVs everywhere and a giant screen for sports because this is St. Louis. So I ordered my sushi and my boyfriend ordered teriyaki, then I received my dinner, and his was??? We gave it about ten minutes, but as I became dangerously close to finishing my meal, we had to enquire about his dinner. Our sever looked confused as if it were normal to have a table of two order three rounds of saki to share while only one person dined on sushi. Maybe that is normal! Who knows. She came back and told us it would be another ten minutes. We decided that I would finish my dinner and we would ask for his to go. They were able to accommodate that request, and they comped one of our bottles of saki, but it was not a great experience. I’m not sure where the problem lies here, but the restaurant does seem like it wants to be better than it is, and they are trying. Unfortunately, I just don’t think this is the sort place that I would return to or recommend.

Feels like an expensive place… I got a bunch of nigiri which was delicious, but seems more expensive than what you’d pay in DC. All the nigiri comes only 1 piece per order, so I’m ordering 2 at a time which somehow triggers discomfort in my brain. I love it when the seaweed wrapper is still warm though. I got 3 pieces of Uni, which the first 2 came with caviar on top, but the 3rd order — ordered at the end — came out with nothing on top. No big deal, just a little inconsistent. Most sushi places usually serve miso soup and a little side salad before your sushi comes out(or during the main meal if they care to do it proper). This place gave me nothing. I never drink the miso soup anyway, but it would have been nice to have the option presented. As for authenticity, it was a Korean or Japanese sushi chef, which is typical of most sushi places. The sushi bar is usually the place to be cause you get to talk to the chef, and the chef will go «off menu» with things for you to try. Not here though. I was the only one at the bar, but the chef was busy talking to another employee or owner sitting at the other end of the bar. The bar sits much lower than the counter too, so it’s really awkward to try to talk to the chef. You have to stand up to get into talking range. This might be something you’d want to try if you’re in the mood for sushi, but it’s not something worth going out of your way for. Waiter also took the itemized copy of the receipt after swiping my credit card. I used to be a waiter, and that’s a trick we used to pull so people would tip on the post tax amount total instead of the pre-tax amount. Good thing I looked before giving him my card. Game recognize game.

I also rated wasabi with 3 stars. But the service here is much better. However, prices are in the extreme side. Servers are great and the food is good, but it is just a lit money wise for what you get. We usually get it to go, but have dined in a few times. The atmosphere is great when we have been there! But I would rather go to drunken fish for a better experience and more bang for our buck!

I came here tonight with a friend for dinner using a Groupon. It was my first time coming here. I had the New York Roll and the Mizu special roll. both were quite good. Once we got the bill, I was shocked to see that my martini was $ 11. that seems way too much for a cocktail. Because of the cool atmosphere, friendly service, and good sushi, I will probably come back. Now I at least know better than to order a signature martini there.

Great happy hour M-F 2:00 — 6:00. Half price beer, wine, sake and apps. Shumai and gyoza are great. Sushi is fresh and good. Great place to stop after work for a quick bite and drink!

everything was edible and the service was fine. tried it on a groupon for some pretty good value. after working at a japanese restaurant, i have certain expectations. the food here was a bit further from the japanese originals than i could appreciate. a lot of great japanese staples were missing from the menu which wouldn’t be crazy if they’re just a sushi place. the shrimp in their soup was not tempura. edamame and soft shell crab were basically their only appetizers. their hot sake was pricy for such a small container. the sushi was okay but not thrilling. st louis has other places i will go for sushi and japanese food. mizu was not the best quality, variety, or the best value.

Tried this place with a livingsocial on a Thursday night. There were 2 other tables in the restaurant. Staff was friendly and sat us promptly. The prices for the sushi were certainly on the higher end in St Louis. We got 3 of the special rolls. The quality of the food was really not worth half the price of the sushi. There was hardly any taste to the sushi ingredients, any taste we could get was from the sauces doused on it. We also ordered a stir fried udon noodle with chicken. It was just noodles sitting in a puddle of teriyaki sauce, overly salty with no other flavor. Not to nitpick but the bottle that the sake came in was chipped, and a couple of the plates that the food was served in were chipped, minor details, but it adds up. Well, the livingsocial served it’s purpose of getting me to try the place. I’m sorry, but I wont be back.

I found a Living Social deal for this place, so I decided to check it out. First, they have a really good selection of sushi(over 30 rolls) from your typical rolls(e.g., California, Shrimp Tempura) to more interesting rolls like a roll with chicken tempura. They also have several spicy rolls. Second, their menu has quite the variety. In addition to sushi, they also serve burgers, salads, and a variety of appetizers. Third, I really liked the ambiance. I know part of it may be the fact that we went on a weeknight, but I really enjoyed the calm, quiet space. It was clean and pretty sleek. Fourth, our server was very attentive and friendly. I will say that our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but I wouldn’t say it was quick. I found this surprising given how few people were dining at Mizu the night we went. Even with all of these positives, I still think this place probably isn’t over 3.5 stars. The sushi was pretty good with a reasonable amount of fish in each roll, but it wasn’t anything spectacular. Also, the prices are pretty typical. I got 4 rolls, my friend ordered the Japanese Chirashi, and our bill was $ 60 before tax. While I enjoyed my time here, I’m not sure I would come back without a Living Social or Groupon.

This place was amazing! And they honor groupon which is a great deal! The boyfriend and I bought the $ 20 groupon for $ 40 food. We enjoyed every minute of being there and every bite we took! You just have to get the hurricane roll, it’s the best. And as for the California roll… spicy is the way to go! Let’s just say were coming back sometime this week but we’re bringing 2 more couples with us! And let’s not forget the $ 40 groupon for $ 80 worth of food. Also, happy hour. 2 – 6 I believe? ½ off appetizers… made my mouth water just reading about them!
