Lemp Mansion Restaurant & Inn

I picked up a groupon to the Lemp Mansion Restaurant on a whim. I have been back several times since. I didn’t know what to expect when I went in the first time. The experience is one of a kind. The Mansion is old, and it is clear that the dinning rooms used to be functional parts of the house. One room serves as a bar complete with stained glass. Another is set aside for a murder mystery or dinner theater that is put on during the weekend. The food is a bit eclectic, with German, Italian, and American fare. Everything I have gotten there has been excellent. The staff have always been friendly and very efficient. I would highly recommend taking a chance on the Lemp Mansion if you are looking to get out of your comfort zone and just check out a restaurant that is a little different.

I just went to Lemp Mansion for the first time on a Sunday. They do a family style meal of fried chicken and all of the fixings. It was great. Even if you are not a huge fan of chicken, you also get ham, roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn, greenbeans, rolls, baked apples, cole slaw, and a fruit mix. All of it was quite good. The baked apples in particular were amazing.

1The food was good, but the entertainment left a LOT to be desired for. The audience MAYBE got 3 percent of total speaking lines, the show curators/​actors had the most (also, only 2 actors? Meh) Most people had no lines. We asked for roles with better lines, and she made it clear she did. Wasnt true, had nothing to say the entire show.
Next time, just use the dinner and call it live theatre

This place SERIOUSLY NEEDS A FOOD AND SERVICE MAKEOVER AND UPGRADE!!! I know the place is known for being haunted and creepy, but JEEZ…
The waiter was polite (as was our bus person) but looked and acted like an undertaker! Black suit with coat and white buttoned up shirt just what I would expect to see at my favorite mortuary, which I’m sure serves better food! Just because the place is a relic doesn’t mean the food should be, or that the chairs have no cushioning left and all you feel is your rear end sinking in around a wood frame!
Because it was a hot day, over 80°, I wanted something light and refreshing, so ordered the only thing on the menu that came close in description, the «SW BBQ chicken salad» minus the chicken as I am a vegitarian, my friend got the same with chicken. We could have gotten a better salad at CULVER’S or MCDONALD’S, and with a much cheerier attitude.
Lettuce was wilted turning brown , not fresh, neither was the cheese, the dressing loaded with sugar and tasted bottled. My friend’s salad had something in it that resembled canned chunks of chicken bathed in BBQ sauce.
It took way longer than should have just to serve our water and drinks considering there were only 4 tables of less than 4 guests, and 1 table of 5 that already had their food.
We were near the end of finishing our food before the waiter came by and asked us «is everything OK here? «.
This place needs a new chef, new management, new attitude, and new less depressing uniforms.
Would never go back.

Sunday dinner here is amazing!!! It’s a family style chicken dinner and it does not disappoint. There are so many sides and each one is more delicious than the next. I go here to eat when I feel like having a feast. Just being inside the Lemp mansion is amazing in itself. It’s like stepping back in time. I recommend spending the night if you can. That is an experience you’ll never forget!

It is a wonderful experience in St. Louis family style dining and the bananas foster is to die for!!!
Mark is the absolute best host/​sever ever I would invite him to our house as a guest anytime!

I just thought this place was awesome! I love history and I love tales of hauntings so I knew this was a must while in town for the weekend! I would have loved to do the ghost tour but they are only given one day during the week :-(. Made dinner reservations and was seated promptly in a gorgeous room at the bottom of the steps. The food portions were large and I thought my Steak Charles was great! My mom got the seafood ravioli special and said it was really heavy and salty, disappointing. Definitely take a walk around the house after dinner, the bathroom is awesome and the woman in the back gift store was telling interesting information about the history of the house. Next time I’m in town I’m staying here for the night! Don’t forget to check groupon before going for dinner!

We very much enjoyed our dinner at Lemp Mansion this weekend. The food was So good. You know you are in for a good meal when the bread and butter are divine, the bread was warm biscuits and the butter was sweet and creamy. I had never had Beef Wellington before, it was perfection. My boyfriend had the ribeye, which was huge and he also very much enjoyed. We also very much loved the charm and history of the mansion. There was some type of murder/​mystery dinner going on in one of the dining rooms, it was kind of loud, but they sounded like they were having so much fun.
Its a really good date spot, definitely something different :)

I realize a lot of people give it less stars but you have to take into account that this place is more than just a restaurant. It is a piece of STL history. The employees are great, the bar, though small is awesome. Haven’t eaten here in a while (just hung at the bar) but it was always good. Their family style fried chicken dinner is the best!

Attended the Lemp Halloween Bash in October… Loved it! 4 hours of open bar (s) and buffet (s) and the freedom to explore. There were tables and chairs scattered around the grounds and inside the various rooms, so there was always a place to sit. Most of our time was spent on the Scavenger hunt but only got about halfway through, couldn’t find Otto the Bartender.
It was a costumed event and as you would expect very interesting and creative sights were seen. We dressed in Edwardian clothes to appear more friendly to the ghosts that are said to inhabit the mansion and did in fact get a bit of activity on our equipment.
We will be attending again next year

What a fun place with a romantic spooky feel!
We came here for a book club meeting. We had read the Night Sister by Jennifer McMahon. The setting of the book featured a hotel and some paranormal activity so this location was the perfect setting for discussion.
We came for the Sunday fried chicken dinner. It was easy to make a reservation for a large party (#14) and it felt like Friendsgiving as we passed the sides down the table. They replace the empty bowls with more food as you go. The chicken was some of the best I’ve had in MO (actually THE best thus far). The sides were great and there was a wide variety. A few in our group are vegetarians so they joined in despite it being «fried chicken dinner» and partook of the sides. It’s a great deal for 17.95.
The service was good especially for our large party.
The Lemp is beautiful. Some of us are returning in December for the tour!

I visited the murder mystery dinner for a friends birthday.
The show was between each course and the actors were very funny. Lots of audience engagement as well.
The salad served was ok — if you don’t like a lot of dressing I would ask to get dressing on the side. There are also vegetarian options but just call ahead of time to let them know. The actual dinner was delicious! It was very much that Sunday dinner kind of meal and the dessert was also very good. There is also wine served multiple times throughout dinner.
It’s definitely a fun place — I don’t think anyone would be disappointed here!

We had the pepper steak and it was superb. My friend from NYC said it was comparable and probably better to what they have there, considering the medium range price and the Gilded era atmosphere. Steaks were cooked perfectly to what we requested. Service was excellent, came on a Wednesday at 830 so it was not that busy.

We went with a Groupon for $ 50 and with an appetizer and no drinks, ended up spending about $ 25 on top of that.
We were seated in a small room with maybe 6 tables. The walls were painted with a mural of leaves and the room was relatively quiet compared to the dinner theater happening in the room over. Our waiter was EXTREMELY professional, but not overly personable by any interpretation of the word. When we asked about the Lemp ghost stories, he seemed annoyed but quickly brought that professional (fake) smile back and suggested we could find any information we’re interested in at the museum. (Side note: The «museum”/gift shop did NOT answer any of our questions. We’ll research the history on our own before our next trip or hope for a run-​in with a more friendly/​approachable staff member.)
AS FOR THE FOOD– yum! They offer complimentary rolls and honey butter to start. The appetizer we ordered wasn’t particularly impressive– fried mushrooms with no flavor in the coating. My fiancé ordered the Prime Rib with green beans (no substitutions for the sides. They will tell you what will be served with your main course when you order) — ordered the meat medium and it was cooked to perfection. It was a nicely marbled cut and very flavorful. He loved the horseradish cream mousse they serve with it.
I tried the Wiener Schnitzel simply because it was fun to say. The description in the menu is «Provimi veal dusted in flour, sautéed, topped with bordelaise wine sauce.» The meat was tender, but overall, to my simple taste buds, it tasted like country fried steak and brown gravy. It was served with potato pancakes, which were the star of the show, and cold cinnamon apples. Glad to have tried it, but not interested in ordering it again.
We will absolutely be back when we feel like splurging for a nice meal. I’ve got my eye on the Beef Wellington next time!
Heads up– a 20% tip IS included automatically on any ticket with a Groupon, and the waiter didn’t happen to mention that when he dropped off the bill with a blank tip line. We just noticed the major increase from our total.

Wasn’t where we had planned on going for my birthday dinner! But ended up being an amazing night! Had a dish I’ve always wanted to try (beef Wellington)!! Most places no longer make it. So I was over the moon when I saw it on the menu! Service was amazing and the food was awesome!!! We will be back again! Next time we will go for their dinner theater!

I am a fan every time I go on a road trip and we pass by this place we got to go especially for the Chicken dinner on Sundays! The bomb! all you can eat orgasmic of flavors! its ridiculous! I love love love the food! served fresh and hot and the waiters are always on point!
The house it self I have never stayed the night will one day! (bucket list) but the first time coming here Me and the person I was with at the time experience something we cannot explain! it still freaks me out! so we go to the little museum shop in the back of the house and this nice lady gave us info on the house and history of ghosts in the area! as she was speaking I saw my partner looking all weird but didn’t say anything till we walked away and said «did u see that dude behind her old man he looked weird» I said «there was no man behind her what u talking about» and as we exited the Lemps doors I kid you not we both felt so dizzy and out of breath like as if we toke a drug and we are getting high its hard to explained it was so bad both of us sat down on the benches that are outside the house it was hard to breath and see! As we both sat there trying to get each other together to walk back to the car we both ran and felt creeped out! it was like someone hit us or we walk through something I will never forget that experience it was def not welcoming feeling it toke us a good 30 mins to get back to normal as we drove farther away from the house the better we got
The second time I went I didn’t experience anything Thank ya lord! but I did experience that super delicious food! well def come back

Met some friends for dinner and some entertainment. The dinner show was murder in maybury. I played a Japanese man named Slung Low. Anytime someone said Japan I had to stand up and clamp my hands together, bow and say AH SO!
It’s $ 53 person for the meal and the show with a 14% tip In the price.
The salad had to many onions for me but it was still ok. The fried chicken with red potatoes and garlic green beans was awesome. We had tuxedo cheesecake for dessert. That was a great dessert to end a meal. Two glasses of wine come with the meal. I don’t drink wine and they were coming by offend with the wine during dinner.
The actors were great and everyone else played along and made it very enjoyable. I had a lot of good laughs.
I wish my character had more lines in the shows, but not all the characters were in the show. So if you go your character mite not have very mine lines are like my wife she had none. Which she did not mind.
They do different shows every month. If your looking for something different and fun I would highly recommend going.

Lemp Mansion was an experience I enjoyed my visit here. I brought my wife on a date here and the food was good, a bit pricey for me. I love the inside of the dining area where we were seated, very romantic and they have a little bar area in the back.
The wait was not bad at all, my food was pretty good, I am not a fan, but that could easily change, I only been there once so I am basing everything off of that one visit, perhaps when or if I go again, I could become a fan. I had the prime rib and it was delicious from recollection. My wife had a fillet mignon steak and chicken sort of entrée, nothing impressive she said. Nonetheless, she enjoyed it, and I know my entrée was good.
I will have to visit this place again as the time I am writing this review and the time I ate my food are just too great to remember every detail of the meal, having time between that meal and the present and putting it all together in a review is not feeling to cool, which tells me I was not impressed. I know I would like to visit there again, which means they deserve a chance to «WOW» me!
If I get there again, which also tells me it is not on a list of places to visit before I try some new ones, that it was not spectacular meal, I will order a different dish. Sometimes that can make a difference or tell the truth in a restaurant. I never try to get stuck on one dish too much, unless it is just freaky good!
I say give them a try, even for a date night, I think you will enjoy it… however, I don’t think you will be impressed.

We went for the Sunday Family Style dinner. All of the food was well prepared and the wait staff were very attentive. You will not leave here hungry. Some of the items of special note were the chicken, green beans, apples and the ham. The head waiter was also very nice to tell us about the history of the home and a lot of details we may not otherwise have heard unless we went on a tour. The desserts fell a little short. While the lemon meringue pie was very good, the chocolate pecan chess pie was not very good. Other than the desserts, the entire rest of the meal was exceptional with great service.

Sunday Chicken Dinner with friends today. Seated promptly, good attentive service, tasty array of home cooking. An experience I’d recommend for anyone wanting to play St. Louis tourist but not an every Sunday event. Skip the Bloody Mary and fill that space with delicious mashed potatoes & gravy.

I recently was invited to a friends birthday party at a Comedy Mystery Dinner at the Lemp Mansion, I really didnt know what to expect but I thought it would be fun because I have always wanted to take in an evening in one of the most haunted locations in Saint Louis.
I arrived around 6:30 to find some of my party already sitting in the dining room, I quickly grabbed a drink from the bar and decided to take my seat. It wasnt long before the cast of the show started to arrive and hand out our roles for the evening’s show. The staff was friendly and the show was entertaining, however it really requires everyone to get into their assigned role and take on the part to be the most fun. The show itself was split into three acts, each of which were split between each course of our meal.
The food was ok, it started off with a salad, then later came the entrée which consisted of chicken rice and broccli. I am not a fan of broccli, and really wish that they would have had some type of option for substitution. In fact I noticed several people at my table of 15 passed on the broccli. The desert was a chocolate cheesecake which was pretty rich, so if you are not a fan of extremely sweet and broccli you might leave a little hungry for the $ 50 price.
