Big River River Running is a locally owned, independent business with 4 St. Louis-​area stores to serve you. Though our name says «running» you don’t have to love, or even like running to come see us! We offer a personalized fitting experience to help you select the right shoe for you — whether to stand at work, head to the gym, or run your first (or 101st) race. You’ll find apparel choices that work for your activity of choice too! So whether you walk the dog, run after the kids, workout for fitness or for brownies, or race every weekend, let us help make that experience better!

History

Established in 2006.

What began as an innocent idea discussed during a run between friends and teammates turned into an amazing Big River Running community with four stores, 30+ employees, a growing number of first-​class signature events and a race management company that works with 100+ races each year.

It began with Matt Helbig and Ben Rosario, native St. Louisans who both ran together as members of the St. Louis Blazers youth track team, competed against one another at their respective high schools (Rockwood Summit and SLUH) and were teammates in college at Truman State University. On a post-​collegiate run, they started talking about how great it would be to open a running store in St. Louis. And they did!

Since Big River Running opened in 2006, it has focused on building a community where runners and walkers can purchase great gear, learn about the running, build relationships with knowledgeable staff, meet training partners and friends and have fun!

Riley helped me find the proper fit and style I needed. The shop and employees are great. They take the time to give you what you need. I recommend this store because I feel it is the only place that knows how to honestly fit a good running/​walking shoe to help avoid problems down the road.

Best place ever to shop for all your workout gear, whether running, cross fit etc. Staff are all very helpful and fun. Deb is a hoot! Watch out for her silly jokes. They make sure you are getting the right type of shoes for what you really need. Have not been disappointed in any of my buys. They do a lot of fun things in the community also. Go see them and check them out. Tell them Marge sent you.

My first visit here was a huge success! The shop is in my neighborhood and I always pass it but now finally went in, and I’m glad I did. I worked with Riley, who helped me find the perfect shoes for my feet. He was super helpful and knowledgable! I really like that they can keep a profile of your purchases so they can better recommend shoes for your future buys and development. Forget going to the large chain shops at the malls, go to Big River Running.

I went to Big River to find a new pair of shoes to wear at my retail job. I had been buying shoes online for a while and they were alright, but someone suggested I stop by this store to try some other brands. The salesman was very helpful and took time to make sure I got the best fit possible, which turned out to be a shoe I would have never considered. While my size and color weren’t in stock at the city store, they had them in UCity and I drove to pick them up. My days of shoe shopping online are over and I recommend Big River to anyone looking for athletic shoes whether or not they run.

Off and on through the years, I’ve done some running. Nothing regular. But this year I made a goal to really get into it and I bought a pair of shoes at another store, downloaded a training app and did my first race. I was starting to lose steam so I signed up for a Big River Running training event (speed works) to give myself a night to run every week on the calendar. I am so happy I did this. The staff was SO helpful and supportive. And I really increased my speed. At the final 5K event one of the staff members who I’d worked with invited me to run with her and a few others, she gave us tips and helpful encouragement the whole race and I finished in my best time ever. They were amazing and I want to do so many more sessions.
The running events made me decide to go into their store and everyone there was so helpful and they have a great selection of shirts, shoes and other equipment. I am now a lifelong supporter of BRR and can’t wait to get my next pair of shoes there.

Went here for the first time today to get fitted for a new pair of running shoes and received great customer service. These people really know their stuff! The sales associate put me in a few different options and had me run on the treadmill while filming to study my gait. I ended up going with a brand that I would have NEVER chosen on my own, so I’m happy he was there to help. I took them on a test run when I got home and they were perfect! No blisters, soreness or any of my usual pain. I will definitely be returning when I need my next pair!

This is a great running store. I originally visited this store a year ago when I started running for the first time. The employee brought out multiple different options of running shoes, let me try them on, run in them etc. She was extremely helpful because I was way over my head with this new «hobby» of mine. I visited the store for a second time today. My running shoes were more than run down, pun intended. I walked in the store with my old shoes in hand and they immediately found my lovely brooks ghost. I tried them on to make sure they fit. They felt amazing… I have forgotten what new running shoes felt like. I was in and out of the store in less than 5 minutes. Wonderful… :)
See you in 7 – 8 months. for a new pair of shoes. I refuse to go this long again.

A great running resource for all of your running needs or wants. This store is staffed by experienced runners with good advice and suggestions should you ask for any. Newbies do not be intimidated, the staff is always friendly. They helped me select a shoe so perfect a fit and so comfortable that I have since bought two more pairs. Monday night group runs are open and friendly as well! A gem of a store.

After Fleet Feet moved out of Fenton, I decided to try a new running store. The running associate was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She analyzed my walk and took the time I needed to get the right fit for a shoe that was just over $ 100. Will be back! Hopefully to try out the social run on Monday nights!

My walking shoes are the best ever!
Long story short, I needed a pair of sneakers. I wear heels (a lot) and wearing heels doesn’t mix well with walking 2+ miles a day while at work so it was time for me to invest in a good pair of walking shoes. I am so glad I did… I really like them!
When I arrived I was greeted by a few of the shoe experts (that’s what I am going to call them). I explained that I was in the market for a new pair of walking shoes and they were very eager to help me. The first thing I was asked to do was to take off my shoes and just walk for them. The guy helping me watched the way I walked and noticed the angles and steps I took. He recommend a few pairs of shoes in my size and went downstairs to get some.
I tried on a few pairs while I was there and I was asked to walk a little bit on the treadmill so that I could feel how the shoes feel while walking at a faster pace. At one point I had different shoes on each foot and had to make a decision. «I really like the one on my left foot» I said. He informed me that it looked more comfortable at the angle he was looking and recommended I purchase them, so I did! They were a bit pricey for what I was thinking of spending, but they are a really good shoe and well worth it.
The staff and the guy helping me were all so helpful and I am very happy with my shoes, I wear them almost everyday at work when I am walking longer distances than usual.
If you need a new pair of walking, jogging, or running shoes this is the place to go!

This shop is a great neighbor. I’m happy to have this company in my neighborhood. The shop frequently has activates for the neighborhood to participate. Weekly run clubs bring people from all over the city to our little area. Big River is a typical supporter of events and festivals around town.
The store itself is well organized and the staff are very knowledgeable. Whenever I need to pick up something for a family member, they speak in a non-runner’s language I can understand.
The prices seem fair for the specialized equipment they sell.

I came here in April after a friend suggested I should. I have never in my life bought expensive tennis shoes, running shoes, etc. But for the last year I have had plantar faciitis (sp?). I wanted to start jogging once the weather got warmer, however when I did, my feet were on fire! I came to Big River. They fit me for the perfect shoes. I have never been more comfy in a pair of shoes. Yes they were pricey but well worth it!
Now I only were the shoes when I’m running so I don’t wear them often. The second time I wore them i did notice that something was poking at my foot and it was really uncomfortable. I went back to Big River and they said the shoe was defective and did a complete exchange even though it was over 30 days since I purchased them. Luckily they had the same kind in my size so I didn’t have to go through the fitting again. There were 3 employees working there when I returned them and all 3 were super helpful and super nice. I will no doubt be back for all my running shoe needs.

After some significant weight loss, my vibrams were doing some havoc on my feet. Perhaps the change in weight distribution has altered my form… who knows. I needed help.
I went in and explained my problem and the staff took a good deal of time to diagnose the issue at hand and make appropriate foot ware suggestions.
We tried on 4 different shoes, running and analyzing each pair, eliminating and altering suggestion items based on results.
I left feeling like I had the appropriate foot ware and immediately went for a run once getting home. Not only did my pace increase, I was able to extend my run without any discomfort, blisters, etc.
I really appreciate their expertise and time and will return when it’s time for replacement.

Lousy supply of women’s running clothes. Unhelpful staff. Absolutely no parking lot… On street only and that was very, very limited. Clothing seemed extremely overpriced as well. I certainly won’t be back.

My family and I participated in the Hops 5K Run on 4÷19÷2014.
I am very disappointed in how they ran this event! Not everyone that participates in 5K run are there to actually run! We had some older people in our group, therefor we finished in exactly one hour. As we were walking up the hill to the finish line, we saw them deflating the finish arch. That is unacceptable! No matter what place you finish in, you should still be able to ACTUALLY walk through the finish line! The sad part about it all, is that there were still a lot of people behind us!!! It was not worth the 35.00 we spent and WE will not be participating in ANY event this company has to offer!

This is a great local running store. The staff is very knowledgeable and more than willing to help you out with all your running needs. I bought my last pair of running shoes there not too long ago.
The store has a great emphasis on the community which is great. They do weekly group runs on Monday nights which I have been going to the last few months and have met some new people who are just as passionate about running as I am. In the summer they do speed work and are currently doing a pub run series for free.
Still being fairly new to the city the running group has helped me get to know people and has made running more fun. Great store, if you’re a runner definitely check out the running group.

Great local running store, with a focus on the local running community. They put on awesome weekly runs on Mondays (and speed work tuesdays in the summer) as well as various races and «Pub» runs throughout the year.
Recently, they’ve added a loyalty program that rewards you for coming to their events, great motivation to get out there and do a few miles, when you know you can get free stuff if you stick to it.
When I bought shoes here they were also really helpful in checking my wear pattern and recommending I go to a shoe with more support which has been great.

I am no runner by any means. This girl bikes. That’s it. However, this little shop in my hood of SoHa is quite nice. They carry items that are not just for running geeks — like my GU gel I so love and enjoy. I popped into this spot during Macklind Days a few weekends back and was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very cordial and helpful. Their prices seem relatively reasonable considering this is somewhat of a ‘specialty’ store… not a chain like Dick’s, SA, Footlocker, etc. I also noticed that BRR had a vendor tent at Pridefest STL this year — so big kuddos there.
At any rate — these folks are a quick bike ride away when I don’t A. feel like going too far for my energy goodies and B. Southside Cyclery is closed. This is one of the gems tucked away in the Mack business district.
