One of the worst market in sacramento

I was hoping this place would be successful as I’m for the independent grocer over the big chains same-​o, same-​o. This place under new management started off well and cleaned up the old one, but it has since tapered off. Their customer service and prices are inconsistent. I still shop here but it’s not my first place I go and it was the first place I went when it opened.

This is the second review is posted and they continue to delete my post. Is very unprofessional business they are racist and stereotype people. I recently went in to cash a check and before going in I called to find out if check cashing was open. The woman I spoke with told me they were. So I drove down there to cash my check and was told the computers were down so I asked to speak to whoever was in charge and by the time I was finished they were cashing another gentleman’s check so I proceeded to ask why are you cashing his check but turned me away? The gentleman responded with we can turn whoever we want away. But just a second ago he told me the computers are down. So I ask for contact information to file a complaint and was only given the store number with the name ask for Robert. This location has very terrible customer service and is very racist towards others as well as they will stereotype you. For all that is reading this within the next couple days it will be deleted again because this is a very unprofessional business that does not want even a Unilocal review to be posted negative on their behalf.

New owners are a lot better, but the quality of the food could be way better… There was one instance that we got home and opened up our milk to find it had gone really bad… Check expiration dates!!!

Ok, new owners and the place is shaping up! Their produce section is much better and they have the best pork chops at very low prices.

Used to be the place to get your meat until they hired a new butcher/​meat cutter, and to make matters worse new ownership seriously dropped off in various areas, just not the same too bad.

This place sold us 2 gallons of rotten milk. I will never shop here again. Be careful check all expiration dates. It seems like a gypsy market to me. It’s a shame because it’s my local market. I would rather so the drive to sprouts then ever shop here ever again.

Terrible customer service here. The cashier Denisse was very rude and made me feel like she didn’t even want to be there. She ripped open my case of water and then said can I open it? Then she scans the bottle. WHAT THE HELL??? THERE ARE BAR CODES ALL OVER THE CASE YOU MORON.
Second, they have a very very old outdated point of sale system, it gives plenty of errors to the consumer and makes you feel like a looser with no money while people stare at you.
I wont be coming back to this store. Oh and NO AIR CONDITIONER!!! its SACRAMENTO!

HORRIBLE! !!! the manager was NOT helpful. Took 15 minutes to get to the phone andcould NOT even aanswer my question. Horrible customer service! I will NEVER shop here! He didnt even apologize for taking so long. Ugh ! HORRIBLE

Clean, limited selection. The basics. Helpful staff. pricey!!!

ALERT! Vic’s has new management and the quality of the meat and produce departments have improved considerably. The produces is about half what you pay at Nugget or Bel Air – yes I said half! Cilantro at Nugget – $ 1.49 a bunch; Vic’s 2 for 99¢. Red onions at Bel Air $ 1.79 a lb., Nugget $ 1.69 – Vic’s 69¢! It’s not displayed as fancy, but who cares? Everything looks a lot fresher that it did before. It’s like 1960, but so are the prices. The Chinese take-​out counter still looks intimidating and scary, though! The last few times I was in there, they were playing some pretty cool jazz, too!

Do not bother! It is a dive! Go to Bel Air or the new forthcoming Grocery Outlet. Vic’s needs to close. Horrible customer service.

If you haven’t shopped at Vic’s in the past two months because of the declining appeal, it is time to go back. The store has changed management, and it really shows. I stopped shopping at Vics because of the reasons listed by other reviewers– surly checkout clerks, poor quality meats and produce. Last year, the biggest effort seemed to be in the $ 1 and under department. Well, that has changed. The store is cleaner and brighter, and the quality of especially the produce has jumped up. I live in the neighborhood and definitely will be stopping here more often than just for a desperate 7 AM gallon of milk run now.

Okay I live two blocks away from this Vic’s so I am a little partial to it but that said I love this market. Seriously like walking back in time. There is old school hip jazz playing on the PA system as you cruise the aisles. A lot of brand names items, you won’t find anything too crazy like balsamic vinegar but you will find the basics and for a better price than big chain competitors. Weekly ads have great price droppers, especially for meats. I am in here at least once a week for the odd or end. Yes it is a little run down but it adds to it’s charm and the place is clean. The liquor aisle stocks some surprisingly good wines. I recently scored a nice bottle of 7 Heavenly Chards for a great price. A nice touch, fresh local breads daily, so good! Nice friendly staff, never huge lines even at 5:00 unless you are buying Chinese at the take away located inside the store.

This grocery store is very outdated. I suggestion only shopping here when you need that one item you forgot at a normal grocery store. Also when purchasing meat definitely check it throughout the contents of it… you just never know.

It’s not fancy. It’s kind of run-​down looking, the checkers vary (from totally normal and fine to extra-​crazy-​and-​surly), and the prices are not amazing. That said, the prices are reasonable, they generally have whatever general grocery item you’re looking for, and the produce is exceptionally fresh and reasonably priced. I don’t know why their produce is so much better than the Raley’s on Freeport, but it is.
This store isn’t a destination. But if you live nearby, it’s definitely a fine choice.

Oh my god, this grocery store is PATHETIC. I have never (well, rarely) entered such a miserable grocery store in my life.
This is what’s known as a «last resort» grocery store, and yes the term exists as soon as I enter it in on urbandictionary. The first time I went here, I bought a soda, took a sip, and it tasted like dust. Why? Because it was expired. Do you know how LONG soda has to be sitting on the shelf for it to *expire*?
That incident pretty much scarred me for life, but I happened to be getting my hair done in the area today and was half starving so went in for some produce. It was surprisingly edible, but it’s nice to see the grocery store itself hasn’t changed. Crickets don’t even chirp in here, because no one fucking shops here. How the hell they can make rent is beyond me.
Just go to Bel Air. The prices are near exactly the same. *Headstamp*.
