UC Davis Medical Center

Another place you should not go. Is UC Davis medical center. They are rated to be the best but lack bedside manner. The most of the staff is rude obnoxious and they break Hippa laws all the time. When you go in they treat you like it’s Notsi Germany. I’ve been at this hospital for several years. Doing those past years not once have. I found facility so horribly run by awful people. However, it just might be my skin tone. That black spot means that lucifers coming to the
quality-​of-​life sucks that is true. However for myself. I rather have a shitty quality of life then to be treated like a second-​class citizen the simply does not matter. Their doctor friends, their lawyer friends, their friends are friends receive all manners of civility. when it to comes to the rest of us we are animals walking around waiting to be seen.
Process
They have a process that they go through that has holes in it. Most of you may dialyze in center. Most of may dialyze at home. Doesn’t matter if you follow the steps it matters to the letter. What matters is the hate speech that your dialysis in center uses against you. They will automatically push out your requirements just so they do not have to see you.
All your dialysis clinic needs to say is that you’re mean rude or argumentative. Which in most cases we are very humble because, we need assistance.
We do not look a gift horse in the mouth and ask why. This is a really sad time with inside United States. Especially with comes to the medical industry. It should be do no harm cause no harm. But instead put my friend on the list and tell those other people of color wait.
Want to make this point again. Whatever your dialysis clinic tells your UC Davis dialysis clinic. Will become the reason that you do not receive the kidney. Especially if it’s done by the secretary that has no reason to say derogatory things about you or about anyone that has to deal with your medical situation. She should not be privy to your medical information that is a clear violation of your rights. If Has is been done to you. You may sue under Hippa laws for loss of medical right to privacy.

This clinic has the worst Hippa violations in the free world. Matter how much you complain all your complaints follow on ears. They discuss your medical medical information among There friends. They tell you about other patients that are coming threw the door about their medical information. No one simply does anything about it. We have in the please force the blue code of silence. Now most of us are experiencing the white coat of silence.
I deem these atrocities within this world atrocious and hideous. That people should be treated like animals and I like human beings. For simple cash.

— 5 stars. My Son-​in law had a history of medical problems, starting with with cancer when he was 7 yrs old. He was cancer free for many yrs. All of his check-​ups and his Drs that treated him for many infections (that comes with a weakened immune system), were at UC DAVIS. He trusted them. In Jan of this year, my daughter took him in because was vomiting a lot and didn’t want him to get dehydrated. They stuck him in a hallway on a bed for 6 hrs!!! This a 74 lb man. He had a chest exray that was clear. The next few days he was given many bags of fluid. He progressively got worse. ICU a lot of oxygen, then his lungs filled up with fluid. Ummmmm now there is nothing more they could do. WHAT?We lost a wonderful man at age 35. He was so possitive through every obstacle, he wanted them take drastic measures so he could live. He loved life. I feel they failed him. The Doctors he trusted. I’m sure he is smiling as I’m writing him

Back in 2015 my grandson was a patient the nursing staff was great. The Nurses are the care takers there and the Dr. come in for there 15minute walk threw and then leave not seeing them again for another few day. One oncologist Female Dr. resident had no bed side manner and just told my grandson that he was going to die and that they would be stopping all his medication. This was an 18 year old and his father was standing there that I feel could have been told to step outside of the room. I did write a letter to the ethics committee which didn’t seem to care. So if you have a child at the med. center and a blond tall oncologist with an accent comes in tell her to leave and ask for another Dr. that cares about the patient and not the mighty $$$ she plans on making. Since then my grandson has pass away and I believe after her visit all his hope just diminished. I Could see it in his face after she left and he told me am going to die. All I can say is Fight for your Love One and if you don’t feel comfortable with the Dr. asked for another one. Hurt and Angry with just one Female Oncologist. As for the Hospital and Nursing staff they are the Best in ICU.

I’ve been suffering excruciating pain for 3+ weeks due to a torn rotator cuff being «treated» by UC Davis Medical Center’s Orthopedics Department. I can’t sleep at night because of the pain. I have all but lost the use of my right arm — I can’t even write this Unilocal review without assistance.
The Orthopedics doctor ordered an MRI of my shoulder. After that I’m supposed to get steroid shots. The problem is that the MRI requires approval by Medi-​Cal of a «Treatment Authorization Request («TAR»).
The test was ordered the same day as my consult — April 13 (over 3 weeks ago). I’ve called UCD multiple times to follow up. Every time, they blame the delay on Medi-​Cal.
Finally, more than 3 weeks later on May 5, I find out the truth. Medi-​Cal is not to blame; UCD Orthopedics never bothered to submit the treatment authorization request.
In fact, the Orthopedics department doesn’t submit TARs at all. They pass that duty along to the Radiology Department. My test was ordered on April 13. Twelve days later, on April 25, Orthopedics finally got around to sending a message to Radiology asking THEM to submit the TAR. As of May 5, no TAR had been submitted by either department.
Finally I complain to UC Davis’ Patient Relations. A few hours later, I receive a call from Nurse Wilkinson from Orthopedics.
The good news is, they finally submitted my TAR.
The bad news — despite the delays, the fact that my pain was unbearable, and my repeated requests for prompt treatment, the Orthopedics department refused to mark my treatment authorization request as urgent.
Instead, I was told, «Pain is not a reason to expedite a TAR.» That statement is ridiculous. Pain is ABSOLUTELY a reason to expedite a treatment authorization request.
Bottom line, UC Davis looks good from the outside — it’s basically its own city complete with high-​tech gadgets and elaborate artwork. But it’s not good. It’s rotten from the inside out. If you want really good doctors and responsive staff, UCSF is only two hours away.

I was in a car crash and they took me there on a trama call. For a trama call we where there for hours. So horribly slow. They left me in pain, on a back board, and on a small gurney in the hallway for hours. When they finally got me a room it was so filthy, we didn’t want to touch anything. Then they gave me a pain medication that I had a reaction to and they didn’t seem to care at all, even though my blood pressure was high. My pulse rate was high, I felt really hot and I was nauseous. They didn’t care. They just wanted me out of there. They brought in the papers and sent me home even though I could hardly walk and felt horrible because of the reaction I was having. My family and I couldn’t believe it. It used to be so nice in there and the staff was always great. Now its filthy and the staff doesn’t seem to give a s_​_​_​about the patients. Sad. Makes me happy that I live by Sutter Roseville where the staff is awesome and the hospital is so clean.

My child was in the NSICU. This hospital has the worst doctors and nurses. Nobody knows what they are doing. My son was Ina motorcycle accident which caused severe brain injury. When we first were waiting to see how he was it took 12 hours to find out anything. He didn’t have surgery or anything he was just in a room with a nurse. We tried so many times to find out if my son was even alive and no one would tell us anything it took me going up the chain of command to complain. Then and only then did they tell me my son was alive but that he is in a medically induced coma. So many things went wrong for my child at the hospital. All the doctors and the nurses are telling you different things. You don’t know who to Believe. If at all possible stay away from this hospital. They treat people like Science experiments and have no bed side manners. Run don’t stop just keep going there are better hospital in the Area!!!

Rude staff and even worse service. I went in with a cut hand that required over 30 stitches and I waited in the waiting room for over 4 hours! Then when I finally did get called in I sat in a cramped and filthy «triage» unit for another hour. I’ve never observed such rude and childish behavior with nurses and doctors in my life. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

As my husband says, we are frequent fliers at UCDMC. Seems like we have visited most of the departments at one time or another. There are a couple of standout disappointing doctors. Those are truly the rare exception. From front desk all the way through to surgeons and specialists we have had an excellent experience. I have Kaiser and I am happy with the service, but I don’t get the same compassionate service. The folks at UCDMC are always looking out for your comfort and piece of mind. They maximize the time a spouse can be with their loved one before and after surgery. They have a tracking system in same day surgery so you know where your loved one is in the process. The doctors are very conscientious about releasing test results as quickly as possible. It may have something to do with my husband’s primary care physician. I think she takes care in his referrals to assure he sees someone good. The only complaint is that over 4.5 years my husband has hade 5 different primary care physicians. They keep moving on. Of the 5 we loved all but one. So still not worth knocking off a star.

My bestfriend just had her baby here. The nursing staff was extremely nice and supportive. However, in the post pardum and recovery the staff was way less attentive and caring. They forgot to provide my friend food and allowed 8+ guests in the space next to her even though the rooms are shared by mutiple families. Our roommate and their family kept bumping our new born baby and made us feel as though we were the problem. While overall we were happy with the treatement we will probably go with Sutter or Kaiser next time.

Wow. I never want to come back here again. Of course if we had to, I’d be glad it was this hospital, but I don’t want to be back here.
We had a scare with our 2 year old daughter a couple months ago. She went into anaphylactic shock while eating lunch at daycare and had to be rushed to the ER on base. Since DGMC (David Grant Medical Center) does not have a NICU/​PICU, they had her sent to UC Davis Children’s hospital after they were able to get her swelling down for monitoring.
This hospital is amazing. The staff is compassionate, welcoming, and understanding. When I came to visit her (my husband was the one who rode with her in the ambulance and stayed overnight since we had a 1 week old at the time), I was heartbroken walking on the floor where she was being observed in the PICU/​NICU, seeing all of the tiny patients recovering from things like heart surgery, etc. :(I was scared that the nurses would maybe have an attitude like, your kid doesn’t need to be here and not really listen to our concerns, but that was never the case. Our baby girl didn’t have anything as serious as the other kids/​babies on her floor, but the staff was still very much concerned and did what they could to make sure she was fine. Since I couldn’t spend the night with her since I had the newborn (plus our two other kids at home), knowing she had such caring nurses and doctors looking after her put my mind at ease.
The cafeteria… oh man. The prices are of course so much higher than what I’m used to at the DGMC cafeteria, but the food is AMAZING and there is so much to choose from. If our hospital had a cafeteria like that, I would eat there everyday. I definitely picked up goodies to help lift my daughter’s spirits since she had to be hooked up to different machines and they were a hit with her.
The staff here is amazing. They are angels looking after any child who comes through their doors.

Pediatric trauma– my son was treated excellent care. The staff on MISCU are the best. I feel so comfortable.

Worst hospital ever killed my son that was born at 7 months. told me that if he couldn’t breathe on his own he couldn’t live than told me he didn’t make it.

Waited in the ER for 8 hours was throwing up and had very bad stomach pains the nurses were very rude and did not care kept telling me to wait and wait. By far the worst experience I’ve ever had shame On you they didn’t check on me for 4 hours at on time I could have been dead and know one would have noticed

Worst ER EVER! I took my 9y/​o son in with what I believe to be a fractured foot tonight. We waited and waited, with him in a good deal of pain and crying on and off for three hours, while they took several other children who were sleeping peacefully while waiting (and obviously not in pain). When I reminded the nurse about his pain and asked if they could at least help with that while we waited, she said they couldn’t do that and couldn’t tell me when they would be able to see him. The lack of compassion here is incredible! Eventually, my poor exhausted son begged me to just take him home so he could at least be comfortable and try to sleep through the pain. Happy to report he’s sleeping now, foot elevated and iced, and we’ll be going to Sutter first thing in the morning. I used to hear UC Davis was great, but this will be the last time I ever come here.

I have always had Kaiser so going to a different hospitals for my son was quiet scary. My then 4 month old son was admitted here for about a month! They were very helpful and I adored all the nurses. In the end they diagnostic my son with botulism! I had the most sweetest nurse ever! Her name was Ina and she genuinely seemed to care about my son, I mean they all did. But she was just something special!
I loved my stay with UC Davis.

In 32 years of my life, this is my third time in the ER. One of them was in a third world Caribbean country and the second one was on the East coast. This time at UC Davis Medical on Stockton was 100 times more subpar compared to being in a third world country. The EMTs did what they could though.
Driving back from a trip, I started getting terrible stomach pains that hurt with every deep breath I took. I stopped and used the restroom then got back on the road. The pain came back even worse so I had to call 911. The EMT gave me something for nausea which did not help with the cramp and pain. But I guess they thought it would help me not throw up anymore. That wasn’t the case.
I got to UC Davis Medical Center on Stockton Blvd in the ambulance around 10pm on ⁵⁄₂₅. The triage nurse asked the EMT for whatever info I managed to give them while on the ambulance. Then the EMT put me in a bed in the hallway. Around 10:30pm, someone came to ask me more questions and take my insurance card. She said the doctor will be with me. I vomitted some more then fell asleep.
I woke up at 12:30am on ⁵⁄₂₆. No one had seen me nor talked to me in two hours. I asked someone going by what was going on. They called the triage nurse who said «We don’t have a bed available. I’m the one who „saw“ you when you came in. You can’t see a doctor until we get an open bed». Seriously?
At that point, I was feeling better and had no pain. I got off the bed, called and waited for a cab, spent $ 90 to find my car where the fire department had parked it (nice of them to take it off the highway), then went home.
No one discharged me. I wasn’t asked if I was in good state of mind. I could have easily passed out in the hallway or gotten worse over those two hours and no one would have known because I had nothing on me monitoring my status.
I’m waiting to see the bill they send me. That was a horrible way to find out how little f – k UC Davis gives but now I know not to set foot in there even if my life depends on it.

Worse experience ever. Brought my child in to be checked for dehydration (4 days of severe vomiting cause of stomach flu). Instead of checking for that, they payed attention to her scratched hands… Looking at me like I am abusing her or something. Nurses, doctors with no respect, being so mean, not a smile, billion random questions… Ridicules. Its called being a child who lives without a TV and enjoys her childhood. Jumping around, playing outside with puppy, and hugging her bunny who sure does scratch. WAKE UP! This is how they break apart good families. And they don’t pay the attention to those who put their kids next to a TV or stick DS game into their hands… That doesn’t seem to be abuse when kids sit home on the couch all day long and become obese.

Their care runs hot and cold. I’ve had excellent care at U.C. Davis Medical Center, and I’ve had care that I wouldn’t wish upon someone I loathed. Generally speaking, their medical staff is good. Their administrative staff is frequently incompetent and attitudinal. Coordination between departments is frequently poor to non-​existent. Referrals get lost in the shuffle, or just not made, and their billing department is a horror.
Note also that they’ve recently switched to a new billing system, although the don’t notify patients of this. They tout their new online billing website, but if you’ve a bill in the ‘old system,’ you’ll see, online, that you have a zero balance, then suddenly get a ‘final notice,’ threatening to send you to collections. Call them about it, you get nothing but attitude, haughtiness, and snark.
Their referral process is similarly infuriating: See a doctor. Doctor puts in a referral. Wait for weeks, to be called. If you call them, asking about its status, you get snark and attitude. «You’ll be called when we’re ready to schedule you.» Wait another week or two. Finally get a call, just as their office is closing, left on your voice mail. Call back, get routed to their voice mail. Generally speaking, they do NOT call back. Spend days trying to actually talk to someone who can schedule. Finally get someone? They’ll schedule you for a month or two out. And that’s if they’ve actually managed to put in the referral as promised in the first place.
As I state, above, I’ve had some excellent care at U.C. Davis Medical Center. I wish I could say that their quality of care is consistent. It’s not. It runs either excellent or abysmal. It’s a crapshoot, so hope you manage to get there on one of their good days.

Here’s the deal. I’ve worked in/​seen the operations of about 25 medical centers in California and about 10 outside of California. UC Davis med center is the best I’ve seen.
UC Davis is a thought-​leader in the United States. They’re one of the best institutions in the country (if you visit their website I’m sure it will list all of their recent awards). The doctors start programs for quality improvement, patient care, technology, and education that work well enough to later be implemented by other hospitals. They research the ways they’re doing things in order to improve patient care. This is a good place to put your trust as a patient.
The Davis attending doctors are leaders in the field. As physicians in an academic field, they usually have an extra year-​to-​five years of training to be «double boarded» aka sub-​specialized. They choose to work for less money because they love the academic work– which includes the extra work of sleuthing out rare diagnoses and handling tertiary care and training baby-​doctors (med students). You will not find a more-​dedicated bunch.
This also means that you’re a patient in a teaching hospital, which can be obnoxious because you have less privacy and more bustle during the days. But there is a lot of oversight in a teaching hospital in which the best minds are coming together daily to talk about your case for half an hour. The doctors get in trouble if they overlook any minute detail in your care. That’s nice to know.
Having worked with them, all of the staff including the nurses and physical therapists and respiratory therapists, etc, are efficient and good at their jobs. They are collegial to one another and polite to their patients. They go out of their way to improve the patient’s stay.
If I had a choice of hospitals, I’d choose this one every time.
