UC Davis Health System Bookstore

Sorry and sad to see this store go. It had alot of wasted potential and was prime real estate. Although they say its because books are not popular anymore. I have no idea where that «idea» comes from that the management of this store caved into, because I think text books are an entirely different market altogether (not «swept away» with the online book craze – Kendle, etc., normally reserved for fiction, etc…). PARTICULARLY medical text books-​…
I believe the REAL reason the store closed, is because the people running the store knows absolutely NOTHING about business and customer service. If that were a Priority, I feel very strongly that this store would still be in operation. Perhaps the school of Management at UCD should’ve Taken over, and not a bunch of «medical people» that know absolutely nothing about business (no offense). Oh, and that manager is NOT going to be missed… believe me…(thinks she’s got some sorta «un-​firable Civil-​servant Badge of honor” – exactly the trouble with these government beu0rocrats – they think they are UNremovable)…

Just walked in today and found out the store is closing. All medical book shelves are empty. Lots of packed up boxes and itens discounted. Most of what’s left is scrubs, alumni wear, some nursing books, and misc medical tools.
There’s no sign outside saying they’re closing, website just vanished, and the employees had nothing more to say about it, so just buy what you need while you can.

Even if you aren’t buying work scrubs you feel unattended and harassed. In the 20 minutes I spent picking up medical books (limited selection), I had to over here the short and argumentative explanation of staff scrubs and allotment.
For those who enjoy medical bookstores, I would refer you to UCSF while in Northern California.

Went in with a bunch of medical students to purchase some supplies.
The manager asked us all to leave our backpacks in a pile at the counter… like we were going to shoplift giant textbooks and stethoscopes that were behind glass cases? Was just bizarre and rude considering what kind of store this was and the type of customers that come to a medical school bookstore

Manager is rude… I work for Ucdmc and was upset watching the manager treating a fellow ucdmc employee poorly… funny nursing has to be on point so we get great scores… What about the staff the is suppose to help us??? Get Customer service training!!!

Being a staff member of UCDMC I thought I would be treated with a better attitude. I was merely picking up some scrubs (alloted amount courtesy of the hospital), and I was treated poorly by the staff. Upon arriving, there were 4 staff members working (no one was helping a customer). When I entered, no one asked if I needed help, and when I did ask about the uniforms, it was as if I was interrupting and imposing. The blonde woman who runs the place (Karen?) appeared impatient and rude when I asked simple, direct questions about the fit of the scrubs. Why on earth the hospital allows this behavior, and allows it to continue (with reviews like these) is beyond me. I will pay out of pocket before going back to this place and dealing with the rudeness of the staff. Or, hey, if you are cool dealing with some rude people and just picking up some scrubs, then you will be fine. I can’t comment on any of the other items this place sells since I won’t patronize a business that treats me with disrespect. I picked up my free scrubs and left.

Every encounter I’ve had with the staff and management at this location has been rude rude rude.
The woman who manages this store should not be in customer service in any way.
In one of my experiences, I ask «is there a way to look my book up on your website», and the response is an abrupt «well I’m not going to do that for you». (I meant is there a way for ME to look it up).
Every phone call and visit and question is met with an attitude of ‘hurry up and what do you want’.
I will avoid using this Stockton Blvd. bookstore for UC Davis at all costs in the future.

If you live in this neighborhood, you’ll know your selections are limited. Let’s say I am craving sour gummy worms and a magazine? or I just had your last diet coke and am going through withdrawals? What about in need of a heartwarming card and a highlighter? EKG guide? needing to rent a breast pump for a day? random knickknacks, the variety you usually buy your mom on mother’s day? This is what the medical bookstore is for if you live in this neighborhood. Oh, and they also sell the coveted UCD olive oil/​stuffed olives.
Oh, and medical students buy books there (boring!)
