Emergency room visit for abdominal pain. I’m a healthy 30 year old and I went in for a stomach ulcer. I was there for 4 hours. Abdominal ultrasound $ 3348. Chest X-​ray $ 1162 (only $ 250 at sutter), ekg $ 382, facility fee for sitting in the waiting room $ 3396, blood work $ 173,$ 213, $ 214,$ 437, $ 46.5. This isn’t including physician fees. I left there after they just gave me Pepcid and a GI cocktail. Go to Sutter!!!

Called to inquire about a referral to this clinic from another physician. Lady who answered the phone was in a hurry and instead of taking the time to explain their referral process, chose to give one-​word answers like she couldn’t be bothered. Why is it more often than not these days that the people in client service positions have very little patience or empathy for the public they are hired to serve?

Stay away! I’ve have 3 spinal fusion attempts. After the first surgery, the surgeon said I had soft bones. After failure one and two I got suspicious. I found out that a DEXA (bone density test) is very common when soft bones are noticed. Never was tested by UCD. They were even hesitant to do it. I got my own at Sutter and found out the worst news. My spine is 15 – 20 years older than my age. Now after my third surgery, I’m in the worst position to ever work again.

Man oh Man. Stay away if you have the option. If we had any other option we’d take it, but this is all our insurance covers now. Sutter system was a frigging dream by comparison, and wish we could return!
Our young adult daughter is having medical issues but not diagnosed yet. In Sutter we were getting in quickly to specialty appointments, felt listened to, and appropriate care was given. Now when she has a flare we’re in the ER hallway for 6 to 8 hours before she is seen; we’re waiting 2 to 5 months for each test to get scheduled; we’re forced to wait then another month to two months before get back to the follow-​up appointment to review test results. And it takes me 3 calls with at least 10 minutes on hold each time to even reach a ‘scheduler’! The greatest irony was when they returned my call to schedule, asked if I had a moment, then put me on HOLD and kept me on hold so long I ended up hanging up. Now14 months later we’re still in a testing process that shouldn’t have lasted more than 6 months.
Didn’t help that the first internist told me «its all in her head», and that he didn’t take her seriously. BTW not something you tell a family member and not discuss with the patient. Next was a speciality doc who found a whole cascade of organ systems involvement and abnormal tests that the first doctor glossed over.
Meanwhile she remains undiagnosed, which means untreated, which means she doesn’t have a normal life. We finally saw a decent doc last week who gave her a preliminary diagnosis that fits. This in spite of the fact that they couldn’t find lab test results (yes, the have electronic records. But if the results aren’t entered by a human, they don’t show up). Now we’re onto another round of confirmatory tests… which are spread out over another 4 – 6 months! Anyone who is worried about what being in a single payer health system would look like should be a UCD patient, and they’d vote in single payer just to get out of UCD Healthcare.
Oh, btw, I’m a retired medical professional (Nurse Practitioner) who has worked at several Kaisers and at Sutter. They aren’t perfect, but they are function and get patients seen in a reasonable time line. Bottom line, UCD is a frightenly overwhelmed and broken system.

This REALLY depends on the doctor and department! I’ve been here for emergencies and non-​emergencies, and I have an overall «A-​OK» feeling about it!

The good folks at UC Davis have saved my life on more than one occasion. For that reason alone I cheerfully give them the highest rating possible. My own dance with death aside, UC Davis offers the very best health care in the Sacramento region.
Like any hospital, there are times when you’ll have to wait an inordinate amount of time for service, and the maze of hallways combined with endless remodels and additions make this place harder to navigate that the Winchester Mystery House. But I can hardly blame the hospital for either of these inconveniences, as budget cuts and growing populations continue to cause growing pains for hospitals in general.
If you find yourself waiting in the main lobby, try one of the egg nog lattes from the adjacent café. These are the best way to deal with the building’s perpetually cold interior.
