Transtech Transmissions

Was actually referred to this place by Meineke in Elk Grove (I have an awesome place I used to go to in Natomas for bigger projects like this but I recently moved and out of convenience I just swung by there when my check engine light came on), he said a customer had their transmission totally redone and told them to refer their customers with big transmission issues to TransTech so after reading over the great Unilocal reviews, I went. I have a ’98 Geo Metro with a leak in the transmission, I dropped the car off right at opening hours and the front desk attendant said they’d call before noon. 3 o’clock rolls around and they still haven’t even called to tell me the issue. I understand businesses get busy but I call them still, they said they still haven’t diagnosed the issue but would call me back in ten minutes. 5 o’clock rolls around and still no call so I call back and ask. The man says, «Oh, I was just about to call you. You have a leak in your transmission.» Correct, I know this. He says he’ll try to patch it up but I won’t have the car ready by today and he doesn’t know when it will be ready. The next day, it’s late afternoon, I finally call him and he again says, «I was just about to call you, your car is ready.» $ 205 out of my pocket. $ 85 for the diagnostic and $ 120 for the labor and parts. Which, I was told the diagnostic was free when I called to see if it’d be okay for them to drop off my car but I was done waiting so I didn’t complain and just picked up my car. He also mentioned that he tested the car and drove it at least 70 miles (which at the time I was thinking «are you going to compensate me for the gas you wasted testing out my car?) but when I got in the car I noticed the car hadn’t been driven more than 2 miles.
Anyways, two weeks goes by, get my oil changed by Meineke and out of curiosity, I ask them to check the transmission because the people they referred me to was kind of sketchy. Guy calls me and tells me there’s still a huge leak in the transmission and the fluid’s leaking all the way to the back of the car. I actually went by Natomas when I had some free time to get it done by my trustworthy mechanic (which yeah, I know I probably should have done in the first place, but gas is pricey and free time is sparse) and they mentioned that the guy used silicone to patch up the leak and that was ridiculous and they should not have charged me such a crazy price for something like silicone. Anyways, if you don’t mind wasting time and money, feel free to take your car over here. The highlight of this whole experience is that they were friendly but that doesn’t matter much when you spend a month’s worth of groceries on something that didn’t even get fixed.

I was really impressed with the knowledge/​experience and honesty of this transmission shop. When the transmission began acting up on my 2005 Jetta, I talked to another transmission shop who quoted me $ 1,200. Next I went to this transmission shop and spoke to Eddy, the owner. He took my car for a spin and then put it up on a hoist to find that the transmission pan gasket was not properly installed and had leaked a lot of fluid. I had no way of knowing my fluid was low because Jetta’s don’t have dip sticks… …and I did not suspect it because I had recently had the fluid changed by SpeeDee (the people who change my motor oil). I ended up having the fluid changed again and getting a new gasket for $ 200. I highly recommend Eddy and his staff AND don’t have anyone other than a transmission shop change your transmission fluid.

Best place ever! They have GREAT customer service. They’re really friendly and just so helpful if your car ever needs to be diagnose. I’ve gone to their shop several times and not once did I come back disappointed. The owner, Eddy is a great guy! If my car ever needs to be fix, this is the place.

These guys are great. They do an excellent job on transmissions. Im amazed at how quick they can get a transmission/​rebuilt it in and out and the vehicle ready for pick up all ready in about 3 days! Ask for Tacho or Eddy
