It was the first time for me coming here. Before the food, the grocery and reasonable prices draw my attention. But unfortunately, couldn’t buy anything because selling will start after 3 days, I was told. Anyway, back to the food. We order the como chicken plates, and a shawarma chicken sandwich. The como plates were delicious, except for the salad and humus they were ok. The sandwich, the only thing good about it was the bread and the salad and sauce inside it, I took out the chicken.

Pretty good Iraqi /Arabic food. I lived and worked in Iraq during the war and can attest that this stuff is pretty authentic. Very affordable too.

Wasn’t expecting much but left really impressed! Had the beef kabab and alarabi. Don’t know much about this cuisine but it was really delicious and very cheap. Plus they surprised us with some complimentary soup on a very cold day which will always get you that extra star in my book. Can’t wait to go back and try some more!

Very good place. Small but clean and very good prices. The Lamb Quzi is one of the best you can find in Sacramento area. The shawarma is also good, I am planning on returning to this place in the future, there are other items in the menu I want to try

If I could I would give themNo stars. This place is horrible, ordered a simple double cheese burger. The burger patties were so thin and burnt it didn’t even taste like a burger. One of the worst place I ever ate. Gave me food poisoning threw up all night my whole family regrets going there. Will never eat there again. I noticed the worker never washes their hands. The guy picked his nose and didn’t even wash his hands. Wouldn’t be surprised if this place shuts down soon. Eat at your own risk!

First impression and I’m already not liking this place without even trying the food. The lady at the register does not greet or help you. No thank you, nothing. I would not come back here even if the food is good. They need to work on their customer service skills

There is always room for improvement. With that being said as a Anglo-Saxon person these guys do a fantastic job on food and consistently. So for all you germ-a-phobes don’t go here if you want a sterile environment. …as a matter of fact stay home because nowhere will be to your standards. Great job on the food.

Beef shwarma here is pretty on point. I enjoy the fact that these guys stay open late and still provide great quality food.

Just ate here for the first time. Super impressed. The prices are great and you get a bunch of food with the meals. Soup comes with every meal as well as their bread. The employees were very nice and helpful when I asked questions. I ordered the chicken tikki plate and the rice and chicken were so flavorful. It was great. Will definitely be returning to try their sandwiches!

Stopped by here since I usually frequent Babylon off Fulton but I wanted to try something new today. Upon first coming in I noticed there were a few people but it wasn’t busy. After glancing the menu and deciding what I wanted, it took about 5 mins until someone noticed I was ready to order. There are really only two people preparing food and the rest just stand or play around. I’m all about cleanliness and this place doesn’t do a good job of it. The person who handles the register doesn’t wash their hands before going back to cook. Also no one wears gloves not a hair net. The back does have a market but from what I can see it’s nothing special to warrant buying. The fridges out front are stocked with drinks and randomly packages of single slices of cheese. The menu is very clear and straightforward. Just wish the pictures were of the actual food and not something off Google Images. The food I had was good. Rice was perfectly cooked just like I like it and the chicken was flavorful. The salad was really good! There’s room for improvement with this place but with those improvements they can become a staple in the neighborhood.

I would agree with the other reviewers. If my rating was just based on the taste of the food, then they would get 5 stars. Prices are cheap. But their customer service and uncleanliness is just questionable. For example, the same guy who worked the register also handled the food-without washing his hands. They dont greet you or say thank you either. Did I forget to mention they don’t provide napkins? They provide kleenex tissue instead. Also, they have a large, dirty fish tank with no fish in it.

Came in to grab dinner around 830pm. Only one guy working at the counter. Small place with a good ambience. They have a few grocery items as well, but nothing special We ordered the Alarabi plate. It was OK. I didn’t find it to be as good as I had expected. It is a very unique food item, however. Fried bread roll(most likely Lavash bread) with a stuffing of beef and some vegetables. Fries that came with the platters were very dry and probably several hours old. Quantity of fries was very disappointing(I had a total of 7 fries in my plate). Hummus was OK. Chicken tikka platter was good! Tasty, juicy chicken with well flavored rice Next time, I’ll give their burgers a try. Pride is very reasonable, in fact a bit lower than most other halal places.

I’m pretty to happy to find this place since my favorite spot closed down a few months back(RIP Maalouf’s). Although the menu and the décor is not as polished as other middle eastern restaurants in the area, this place makes up for it in spades. As soon as you walk in, you’ll notice a small counter, a smattering of tables, and a few shelves in the back dedicated to their spartan selection of canned goods, assorted spices, and grains. If you’re like me, you might confuse the oversized pictures of food plastered on the walls for their menu, but rest assured, there is a stack of paper menus resting next to the register. Pick up a menu, peruse its tri-fold layout, and order something like a pro… don’t stand there staring at the walls and pointing like an idiot… like me. Anyway, when that happened, the guy manning the register was very tactful in redirecting my attention to one of the menus. He was friendly and seemed genuinely eager to answer my questions about the food. I figured he was just happy to see some customer, any customers at all, because the place was fairly empty at that point, but the place soon filled up with a stream of middle eastern families, settling in and ordering half the menu items. Being unfamiliar with the place, my friend and I ordered a few familiar items(beef shawarma sandwich, chicken kabob sandwich, and baba ganoush) and one unfamiliar item(alarabi plate). Given the very reasonable prices, this feast did not break the bank. Here’s my assessment: Beef Shawarma Sandwich($ 5.50) — Fairly standard shawarma(meat, tomatoes, onions, pickles, tahini) with the exception that it’s wrapped in one of the breads that they baked that day. The bread is delicious and definitely adds to the overall quality of the sandwich, but the sandwich as a whole seems somewhat dry. However, this was easily remedied with the baba ganoush. Overall, very tasty and I would get this again. I might ask if they can add some of their garlic sauce to it next time. Chicken Kabob Sandwich($ 3.99) — My friend ordered this and I took a bite. This sandwich has a lot more flavor built into it than the beef shawarma sandwich, but I couldn’t figure out if it was coming from the garlic sauce or the chicken kabob. Seeing as how the sandwhich is less than $ 4, I’ll probably get this as an add-on item the next time I come here. Baba Ganoush($ 2.99) — No special tricks to this baba ganoush, just plain old tasty eggplant. It goes well with the shawarma sandwich or some bread. Alarabi Plate($ 7.99) — This thing is fan-f*cking-tastic. I don’t know what that crackhead of a reviewer was complaining about. This toasty little shawarma paired with a side of hummus and salad is a perfect meal. There are not very many places that make shawarma wraps with their own bread and then fry/toast them, so this one dish makes this place fairly special to me. I only know of one other place that does this and it’s a Syrian joint in LA that I’ve been craving. Anyway, take those slices of shawarma, dip ‘em into that hummus, and enjoy a damn good meal. You’re welcome. As my friend and I were leaving the restaurant, the cashier called out to us and asked us if we enjoyed our meals. When we told him that the meal was excellent, he seemed genuinely happy and proud. I really hope this place does well.

My wife and I loved it. We tried their spicy fire roasted chicken and a stuffed fish. Both were great. The fish tasted very fresh; there was no fishy taste what so ever. The spices were fresh and aromatic. The rice was the correct texture and their bread was very fresh. We will definitely be going back when we’re in the area. But next time were going to bring the kids. The portions are big. I only was able to finish 1⁄3 of my food. I wish that there was one of these places in downtown or south sac.

Good food! I decided to come in for lunch one day. I’ve seen this place a million times passing by, watched it’s grand opening after it being a failed Indian restaurant turn into a place for Halal food. I’m asian and not muslim, but some of my best friends are and they’re Pakistani. I learn a little more about different types of middle eastern foods every day! I love Afghan food and mediterranean food, so this was the best of both worlds. I had the combo plate which comes with a ground beef seekh kebab and chicken. Seriously, $ 7.99+ tax for 2 meats, rice, salad, hummus and a delicious piece of bread that is freshly made for you when you order?! Yeah, so worth it! The first bite I took was with the warm yummy bread and the hummus. Omg, the hummus! Reminds me of a Lebanese place down in Glendale that I’ve only eaten at once and loved right away. The beef was spectacular! Tasted like fresh beef. If you’ve ever eaten beef that had been freshly killed before, you know the taste and I was amazed! The chicken is pretty standard, but it was moist and juicy. The next time I go, and I will go again, I want to try their beef shawarma. I wish they had a chicken shawarma, but I’ll keep looking for a place with good chicken shawarma(not that I’ve tried any places around here yet). They do have a little market area that mostly contain canned meats and spices. I was hoping to find some indian pre-mixed packaged spices there, but they don’t have any. Service was just fine. The lady was nice, but the younger guys were decent. I got a slight acknowledgement from one of them when I walked in, but it was the lady that rang me up and gave me my food. I will be back!

Had their beef kabob tonight and it was pretty dam good. It was juicy, well seasoned and the perfect portion. The rice was super tasty and it had hummus but I’m not a humus eater so not sure how it tastes. Now beware everything is fresh so have patience, it took 20 minutes to get my food. It was worth the wait and I will definitely be back.

I had seen postings for Tanoor in my Unilocal feed, but for some reason it wasn’t popping up when I searched for kebab, shwarma, or pita on Arden Way. Specifically I was interested in the large flatbread that they sell. So without any luck finding the address, I decided to hop in my car and drive down Arden until I found it. The place is fairly plain. There is a little market section towards the back of the store with various halal canned goods and spices. There is a counter that runs down the middle with fresh bread offerings. I got there somewhat late, so they literally only had two bags for sale. I decided to order a sandwich and a coke, and then pick up some bread and hummus on my way out. They have a very modestly priced menu: Appetizers, Kebab and shwarma plates for less than $ 8, and various wraps with the different kinds of meat. I elected to go with the Kebab sandwich. I ordered at the counter. The gentleman at the register gave me a smile and asked if I had tried their special burger. I said, «Not yet,» and he recommended I try it on my next visit. He said they were«trying to compete with the Americans.» I smiled and waited for my food. I was the only person ordering at the time, so the sandwich came out very quickly. It was a grilled Kebab with a Middle Eastern salad, onions, and Persian pickles, all wrapped up in a fresh baked pita that they make in house. The pita looked very similar to the type they bake at the Babylon Market on Watt– sort of oblong shaped with pointy ends. In any event, the sandwich was pretty good. For a total of $ 5 including a coke, I was a happy camper. Once I finished my sandwich, I wanted to try some of their fresh bread, particularly the large rounds that I had seen earlier. But when I went back to the bread counter, both bags of the pita bread and the other bread were gone. I asked the man behind the counter what type of bread the large round one was. He said it was Iraqi bread, and that he had picked up the remaining bag for himself. He asked if I wanted to get it, and then he went and pulled it from a bag on the counter. I felt bad buying the bread he had saved for himself, but he smiled and said he gets to eat it every day. I wanted to pick up some hummus to go with the bread, and the gentleman pulled one of the containers out of the cold case. All together, the bread and hummus was $ 6(and there was a lot of bread in the package). So when I got home, I couldn’t resist cracking the bag and trying some of this Iraqi bread. As some early posters have noted, it sort of looks like giant naan. It has the texture of fresh pita bread, but is fairly thin without a pocket in the middle. It tasted like a cross between the taftoon bread they make at Famous Kabob and the pita bread you can pick up at either of the international food markets on Fulton. It was very good. And for only $ 3 for 4 giant rounds, it was an awesome bargain(2 pieces of taftoon bread at Famous cost about the same and they are smaller). Tearing off pieces and dunking them in hummus made a great snack. I will definitely be back for some more Iraqi bread. I like it better than pita, and at that bargain price you can’t go wrong.

I had a friend visiting and he was craving a falafel sandwich, so I brought him here. It was a hit. He said he lived in New York where you could find a falafel joint on nearly every corner and it was something he had eaten on a regular basis, but he thought this was the best he’d ever had. We both like their hummus that is very creamy, their salad, and tabouleh, their delicious rice, and fabulous Iraqi bread.
