Sutter Express Care

Went here for a quick physical exam and TB skin test on a Friday. Arrived at 11:30 am, received care at 12:45 pm, and left at 1:15 pm with two patients in front of me so expect to wait a bit. There is in fact only one health professional here and he did everything by himself. He seem like a stressed but also kind man who is trying his best. Total was $ 99 with no insurance. I don’t mind this place at all for how convenient it was for non-​emergency basic health care situations however, I am not sure if it is the best place for people who needs more.

Just go to ur MD off or a real urgent care. I and my child got diagnosis for pneumonia and myself lung issues. Treated me with a Z-​pack and my daughter with pneumonia. Wth the day after some other Nurse Practitioner call saying something entire different and telling me to stop take my Z-​pack cause I don’t need too. Wtf. I’m sick as a dog and the NP that saw my xrays already called and prescribed me and my daughter. They need to get it together. The wait was a long time too. Lost my family trust and respect. I work in the medical field. I know how Sutter work. I’m employed there. Man! I was so disappointed. Whatever. Never again. I am grateful for them but I rather go elsewhere.

This place was a waste of time. I live in Los Angeles and was in Sac visiting family. I got pretty sick with a very constricting cough. The NP took about 40 minutes with me and said that she «thought» I had pneumonia. Called urgent care in Elk Grove for me to go there for an X-​ray. Did that and drove back to this place only for her to tell me that there was no pneumonia… Only bronchitis… and refused to prescribe any anti biotics! Said bronchitis is viral and that I just had to get through it. I have had antibiotics for bronchitis before. I tried to get something but she only gave me an inhaler. I was the second patient seen only waited about 20 minutes but with going back and forth and waiting at urgent care it was a 4 hour process!!! Such a waste of time… Back in L.A. And saw a doctor who prescribes antibiotics for bronchitis! Imagine that!

I could not be more impressed by this tiny office. I was not expecting much service, but it was EXCELLENT! I think I got a little lucky in being able to zip straight into the office (the person before me must have left), but even if I had had to wait longer, I would have been thrilled.
Jeanette was my medical assistant, and she was literally AMAZING. She was super efficient, friendly, and professional, and made me feel entirely at ease. She was probably the very best health care professional I’ve ever been seen by… there’s something all too rare, but entirely comforting about a medical assistant who really, legitimately cares for her patients and goes out of her way to help!

Disappointed that I believed the reviews of this place. The wait is not short as many would have you believe. The cost without insurance is $ 75, not $ 20 as another user stated.
I’m giving it two stars because it is just as good (awful) as any other regular urgent care. In fact, maybe worse because it’s one doctor and located at the back of a rite-​aid. However, were it not for the stellar reviews I read, I would not be disappointed by my high expectations.
Edit: I wrote the original review before seeing the doctor after sitting in the waiting room for almost 2 hours. Once we saw the doctor (yes, there is only one doctor running this location) I immediately felt bad for her. She was kind, informative, and gave us exactly the help we needed. She was left alone to run this urgent care all day. By the time we were in her office/​room it was almost 6 pm, she had been there since 8 am and already seen 26 patients. I realized we had arrived during an extremely busy day and were being helped by a caring woman who was doing her absolute best given the circumstances. I am only going to up my stars by one though because I think whoever owns this clinic needs to recognize how difficult the job is for only one person to run and adjust accordingly.

This place isn’t quick at all. We came on Tuesday around 4pm. Not busy really only three people ahead of us and we have been waiting for an hour and a half. No one has asked about insurance and to check in you just sign your name on a paper, no one calls you up or anything.
We came here because we needed a quick urgent care and all the reviews said it was during a work day, that was very wrong for a calm day like today. There is one lady working the desk, being doctor, and everything.
I’ve never waiting this long at even a normal (none express) urgent care before. I will never come back to this urgent care.

Excellent visit all around! Quick, inexpensive, u pick up your prescription all at the same place. How convenient is that?! Kevin is very kind, easy to feel comfortable with, and helpful doctor. Plus u get $ 5 off if you’re a student. Recommended highly if you don’t have insurance.

$ 20 for a ppd without insurance! No line! Thus is the future if healthcare… I even forgot my iPad there and they called me to let me know… amazing… that would not have happened at county clinic that charges $ 16 for a ppd. County clinics should be modeled after these urgent care clinics…

Ok, we have been here twice– both times for my son’s sports physical. First time there was an MD. He was extreme thorough and interacted well with my son. Well worth the $ 45.00 paid. The next year we went back because of the fantastic first experience and saw an older nurse practitioner. She was not as thorough and fumbled through the process. She also said she heard a heart click and was unable to sign the sports release form. She sent us to our pediatrician which I knew the out of pocket cost would be 2 – 3 times the $ 45 charged at Sutter Express (which is why we went there). So we go our pediatrician and he says he does NOT hear a heart click. He then asks the Fellow working with him to listen and again no heart click found. But with this the MD said that since a medical professional heard a heart click we had to be referred to a cardiologist. Now mind you, I really did not think there was anything wrong with my son’s heart, BUT if something happened I would feel like a terrible mother… so what to do, I take him to the Cardiologist. Of course $ 350.00 later we get a report with one line –No heart defect noted. So by having a less experienced «medical professional» at Sutter Express do what I really thought to be a simple sports physical and having an MD who would not make a professional medical judgment due to fear of lawsuit, we ended up forking out $ 45.00 + $ 96.31 + $ 352.37 = $ 493.68. My suggestion– ask the credentials of the person at Sutter Express and pick your people carefully as this is medical world we live in.

I’m really disappointed. I’m not from Sacramento and needed to see a dr pretty quickly. We found this clinic with good reviews and it was open. At least I thought it was open. When we get there they had a sign on the window saying they would be closed today and tomorrow. There wasn’t any clue where we could find another urgent care clinic or anyone to ask. Thank you Unilocal for providing the next closest care center.

I was dissatisfied with the service on my visit. I had a feeling I had swimmers ear, if not then maybe some other skin issue with my ear plus a previous Dr said I did have swimmers ear a while back. I came to see what was wrong with my ear and get medication. The PA checked my ear and said there were no signs of infection and suggested the itchiness be an allergic reaction. I knew it was not an allergic reaction. I felt like she didn’t care to figure out my ear problem. She kept saying over and over the same thing. But she didn’t offer any other info about the problem, didn’t probe about it. As I sat there I felt frustrated. Eventually she did prescribe me something so I can «try» it. I felt duped because I didn’t get concrete info about my ear.

This is an amazing service. I was EXTREMELY SKEPTICAL. Our family has been to various urgent cares over the years. None of which were impressive in the least.
However this is a quality care operation. The physician’s assistant that we dealt with was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, professional, patient and yet very expedient. No wait. By the time we finished the paperwork he was asking us to come in. I dont give praise lightly. It takes a lot to impress me.
Our situation was very complex. But the service we received was excellent.
According to the website the fee is a flat fee of $ 75. And they work closely with the pharmacy in Rite-​Aid. There is even a video that details exactly how the express care works.
Amazing. This will be our go to urgent care for everyone and every type of urgent care situation for our family. Did I mention it was AMAZING!

I had a nasty sore throat and fever. Suspecting it was strep 3 days in, I googled walk-​in clinics in Sacramento as it was a Sunday. Sutter Express came up with good reviews, so I drove myself down there in my fever haze. I figured if I got there right as they opened, I wouldn’t have to wait long.
Oh boy was I wrong. Everyone else had exactly the same idea, and by the time I rolled in 4 minutes after open, there were 7 people ahead of me. There was no check in counter, just a sign in sheet. I signed in and sat down to wait. For 2 hours.
This is a one person operation. The medical person checks your paperwork, types up your info, does the exam, etc. True to their sign, it took about 20 minutes per person. I imagine if I had come at a less busy time, say a weekday afternoon, it would have been fine. As it was, I was ready to murder people by the time my turn came.
The exam itself was quick and painless. She entered my info, swabbed my throat, did the test, told me I did indeed have strep, wrote me a prescription and sent me on my way. I got the prescription filled right there in Rite Aid, no problem.

Love this place! Close to my house so its super convenient. Much easier to come here than to schedule an appointment with my physician, who happens to be 20 minutes from my house. Definitely still see my regular doctor for important things but this is convenient for simple things like getting a TB test.
They are pretty fast too– they take you in order of the time you arrive so depending on how many people there are, it could take some wait time but majority of the time I’ve gone, I’ve been called back within
10 minutes after arrival.

This is honestly my kind of medicine.
I like going to Rite-​Aid, getting a quick check up, maybe a few potted plants, baby girl a candy bar, and being done with my medical needs for a year.
About three weeks ago, I woke up and, no shit, I thought I was going to die. I mean, we are talking can’t-open-one-of-my-eyes, post-​nasal-​drip-​to-​the-​max, sore throat, nausea, phlegm-​balls-​coming-​from-​everywhere and my-​body-​is-​on-​fire SICK. Crusty sick. Ya. I could go on.
Back when I was little (oh boy) I felt like this one other time, and Grandma gave me a shot of whiskey. End of story.
Well I tried that and it did not work this time. Plus, I take care of my three year old daughter all week. That ain’t even easy when you’re well; forget being sick and definitely forget being whiskey-​drunk.
Definitely NOT both. Anyway.
Zoey expressed concern one morning that was particularly bad, and said:
«Ooh. Nooo… Mama a big sick, thassa big owies.»
That’s when I knew it was time to go to the Dr.
To put this situation into context, I had been taking care of my poor Dad at the hospital about two weeks prior to this. To keep it real, let’s just say I wasn’t too excited about going to the damn Doctor, nailing down an appt., getting all kind of extraneous bullshit tests and effing around too much. I just wanted to not cough up huge bloody phlegm balls. That’s all I wanted.
Luckily I have Sutter, and they have this in-​pharmacy service where a Nurse Practitioner (think of an NP as an inspired Doctor) questions you, takes some looks around your nose and ears, listens to your heart and does it all without an appointment.
He accessed my health record and the first thing he said was, «you lost some weight!» It’s like he knew the one thing that would make me smile. He understood my situation with Zoey being all over the place and even told her to quit climbing around and to go in her chair, which she did. I can’t be too rough on the old girl, she is a baby saint in a lot of ways, but she hates the Doctor’s office and I do too.
So he listens to my breathing and he basically tells me I have terrible allergies. I told him I live by Land Park in he basically told me that was why! He prescribed me some stuff, but mostly, he told me to make lifestyle changes. He said he could tell I was eating irregularly and advised me to have small meals many times throughout the day. He said to go on a short walk three times a day. And he said to put off chores if I needed a rest. I am kind of a huge Nazi about certain chores. My sister and my best friend call it demented. He said that I have all the hallmarks of stress. He noticed my hair fell out in one area only, another part of stress. He got that taken care of without too much examining, because I definitely was not in the mood to be touched excessively.
He seemed compassionate also with the difficulty of single parenting. He encouraged me to take care of me, and to not feel bad about putting Zoey to sleep before I go to sleep, which I had serious guilt about. He said I needed a few baby-​free hours a day. That made me really sad but since I have been putting her down earlier, we are both a lot happier.
I had to switch the allergy medicine on my own to one that addresses both indoor and outdoor allergies, which he told me I might have to do. That worked exceptionally well. I started taking a multivitamin and vitamin C, and, of course, got the baby kind for Zoey. Gotta take care of my little girl too!
The Doctor also recommended drinking hot green tea with mint or ginger three times a day. That, I have to say, made the HUGEST DIFFERENCE. No joke! I like coffee, but sometimes it is an irritant. The green tea is the most positive change I have made this year.
In short, this Dr. is probably one of the most positive influences on my life recently. Just making these few little changes and dealing with stress more productively really helped me feel better. You can’t let yourself get too out of control with stress.
Before I left, he assured me, that no matter what, every person is going to go through at least three things in life:
1. They’re going to be born.
2. They’re going to get sick/​old.
3. They’re going to die.
It sounds pretty dramatic, I know, but that made me feel a lot better. I bought a little fuchsia plant that Zoey liked at Rite Aid to hang outside our apartment, and it is funny, but that plant reminds me every day of what is most important. It is thriving and so are we. Now if this Dr. could diagnose my grain-​based allergy, my life would be complete and I would probably just die at that point since there would be nothing left in life to figure out.

Love the convenience and quality of service here.

I woke up the other day and had the sensation of what felt like a California Wildfire between my legs. Seriously. I had a hunch it might be a UTI, but had a few other symptoms. So I decided I needed to get some medical attention. Realizing I could not wait weeks to get into my doctor, I checked out Unilocal and saw Gretchen’s review of this place.
It really is a doc in a box. You check in with the same person who’s seeing you. I peed in a cup (it was in the Riteaid’s stockroom bathroom, which I admit was sorta weird) I came back and she ran it through the machine to check it out… No UTI. A mystery. Acknowledging the limitations of the doc-​in-​a-​box, she offered to get me an appt with another sutter physician and gave me some OTC advice. She had a good bedside manner.
I took one start off because I she had some issues with insurance and clearly was a little unfamiliar with dealing with insurances, but I told her, «it’s on $ 60 something dollars even with no insurance, JUST HELP ME PUT THESE FLAMES OUT!» After all the hassle and it not being a UTI and knowing my insurance was funky, she told me «Don’t worry about paying»
I recommend going here for the basics, it’s a great supplement for your regular doc!

I cheated on my doctor and I feel GREAT!
I’ve been too busy to change my primary doc and I didn’t feel like going over there, especially since this clinic is 1) closer; 2) has a pharmacy outside it’s door; and 3) hasn’t irritated me yet.
There was no wait at 2pm on Monday, and the clinician was able to treat my eye infection really fast. I paid my $ 15 co-​pay and I was outta there in no time.
Here’s the kicker — they called on Saturday to ask if my eye infection was better. You could have knocked me over with a feather. My doc’s office has never followed up nor could they care less.
Myeah, see ya later, Doc!

I gave in and finally sought help for my sinus issues.
I had been having toothaches and eyeball headaches from Wednesday of last week until yesterday. The only things I’d done were try to get into a dentist on Friday (fat chance) and bought some decongestants, a vaporizor and one of those sinus rinse thingamajiggers (worked pretty well, I got so much crud out, it was frightening)
By Sunday, I had enough. I was just tired of waking up with headaches every day, each day worse than the day before. I was tired of making expressions that hurt my face.
I looked up Laura’s review, and checked the website, and found out they were open, and I drove over with wet hair from a steamy shower (that did not work either, although it was nice to have hot water beating down on my face.)
I was really sick; sicker than I had thought. I apparently was running a low fever that was held down by sudafed and massive doses of advil. My BP was shooting through the roof and I was told to knock it off with the decongestants. My cheekbone did not allow light through, which was not exactly news to me, since I had already decided my tooth was rotting or my sinus was rotting. My orbital bone screamed out in pain when tapped gently.
I got azithromax and flonase for my trouble. Thank you, Kevin Vuong, I shook your hand, but I should have curtsied.
Today, I just have a stiff neck and am very tired. But, I’m at work, bringing home the bacon, and actually able to smile and look people in the eye.
Oh, and I don’t have a tooth abscess like I was dreading. Apparently, when your sinuses implode, they trigger the maxillary nerve. I knew this all along, but it hurt so much, I figured there was a change I was wrong.
My heart goes out to people with regular sinusitis. This was my first one ever, and boy, was I a BABY about it.
But am now on the road to recovery, thanks to azithromagic.
Best thing about it? I was in and out within 20 minutes on a Sunday morning, and I had my Rx 15 minutes after I dropped it off. I just did two laps of Rite Aid and perused the hand lotion and they called my name.
I spent last night listening to the crackling noises coming from my cheek as it drained. Sick.

I was sick, sick, sick. After a sleepless night I knew I had to go to a doctor. I needed a doctor asap, without an appointment and on a Sunday, so I went to the Sutter Express Care inside the Rite-​Aid Pharmacy in Greenhaven. This was a quick and efficient way to get medical care. My insurance covered the visit as a normal office visit, instead of the typical $ 59 fee. You can visit the Sutter Express web site to see what different types of insurance they accept, which is a lot. The doctor diagnosed me with bronchitis and prescribed me three medications, which I was able to have filled right there at the pharmacy. No driving from the doctor’s office to the pharmacy! After getting my meds, I felt so much better and finally got a good night’s sleep. They are open on Saturdays and have extended evening hours. Office visits usually take 20 minutes and you don’t need an appointment. The doctor that treated me was very good. They have a list of medical services on their web site as well. Keep this in mind if you need a quick and efficient doctor’s visit.
