Smog Express

Quick and easy. I came in at lunch time without an appointment. No problem. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.

Came in around 3pm and was immediately taken care of. I had previously been to 2 smog shops and they both were unable to deal with me because my car was «modified». However here, the tech obviously knew what he was doing and actually understood what each part on the car did. Thankfully he realized that nothing on my car affected emissions and my car passed. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. A really nice tech who was fast and efficient !

I took my fiancés NSX to another nearby smog place and for some reason they couldn’t get the rpm up… I ended up coming to smog express and I was in and out!

My first Unilocal review and it’s for a smog check station? Yup, and its because it was exactly what I wanted — quick, great service, at a reasonable price. Got in my car to go to lunch today and remembered that I needed to get a smog check done. Quickly discovered that Smog Express was the closest to me, so I drove right over there and was helped right away by a friendly tech. Since it was lunch I asked him about nearby places to eat and he told me that Willie’s Burgers was literally steps away. One chili cheeseburger, fries, and a soda later, my car was done and ready to go. Zip, zoom, munch, done. Back to the office in less than an hour. What more can you ask for?

I called in on Wednesday to see if they took appointments. Made an appointment for 12:00. I arrived at 12:15 but I was in and out within 15 minutes. Awesome service!!!
The representatives were knowledgeable and got things done quickly. I would definitely recommend friends and family.

I got my car smog-​checked here at the end of December. I called a few places around town and I discovered they all added on $ 8 for the smog certificate fee, which goes to the state (I don’t know what for). The price was the best outside of that. This year the DMV picked me to have it done at a «Star» station. (don’t know what that was for either.)
There’s really nothing to getting the smog checked. You’re not a smog tech. They are. They open the hood, rev it up, check things. You pay them and turn in the paper to DMV.
Turns out I had a broken oil dipstick, so I needed to get the test redone. It was the first time I ever needed a retest. Both guys who looked at my car were courteous and informative. They did not try to sell me anything I didn’t need. And really I’m not sure they do sell anything else. I was not charged for the retest. When I got the oil dipstick thing worked out (common problem, said the guys at CarQuest down the street), the Smog Express guy recommended I go to their other location on Folsom Boulevard to pick up my registration sticker as a free service they were giving repeat customers. He said the owners were considering closing this location. I did not take them up on the offer, but it did sound really convenient.
They take appointments, but this shop is in a good location if you have to wait — nearby stuff like Willie Burgers, Avid Reader, Records, Dimple, Tower Café. Since the Javalounge isn’t open anymore. There’s also an indoor waiting area with pretty current magazines and Judge Joe Brown on the TV.

Pretty negative experience. Failed smog the first time and I get it there was a lot wrong with my car. I put $ 1200 into my car to get it to pass smog and take it in for the free retest and they fail me for some bullshit thing that can be adjusted in two seconds with a wrench, which when taken back to my mechanic he laughed and informed me these guy regularly fail people a second time for bullshit reasons to get more money. Not to mention the guys running the place were pretentious pricks. Don’t go here. Bottom line — they will try and bone you.

I don’t think I’ve ever had a better smog experience. When my renewal said «STAR Station» I thought it was going to be a huge hassle and probably a huge price tag. After navigating the horrible CA BAR website, I found Smog Express, which was close to my office. The smog was about $ 20 more than a regular one, but even so, they were about 2 hours faster than other places I’ve gone to. Highly recommended!

This is the third time I’ve taken my car here to get smogged. In the years past I’ve had great service and no problems. This time, the tech told me that I had a broken valve which he then proceeded to show me and pulled something out, telling me he was doing me a favor. He said I needed to replace it but that it should drive fine for a couple days until I could find someone to fix it, but it might be a hard part to come by (this was friday at 4:30). When I left my car was idling poorly and within 5 miles my check engine light came on. I have not had any problems with my car previously so I was really freaking out.
The next day I found a mechanic who fixed it within an hour and thank goodness nothing else with my car was messed up. When I took it back for my retest I informed the staff who didn’t even offer an apology.
I wouldn’t say this place is horrible, but after this experience I will not return next time I need a smog check nor will I suggest it to others. I think the people who worked there before are out on Folsom blvd. now, and the techs working in there seem somewhat inexperienced.

These people rock. I pulled in for this year’s smog inspection at 4:58 p.m., practically taking the entrance on two flaming rubber wheels because they want the last «car in» no later than 5:00 p.m. Sat down with a trashy magazine (it’s the only time I indulge, don’t judge me) and I was back in my car, out of the lot, with a Passing Grade, IN TWELVE MINUTES. 12. MINUTES.

Smog Express is a great place to get fuel or have your car tested for smog.
The gas here is one of the cheapest around, just dont be fooled by the prices on the street side sign, that’s the cash price. However, the credit price (.10 cents a gallon) is still on par with Arco. This place is much less crowded than Arco also.
As far as smog goes, I have taken a few of my cars here and have always found the techs to be friendly and knowledgeable.
As far as smog-​gas stations go, I think this is a pretty great place.

Fast. Like, you’re on your way home 10 minutes after you arrived, fast. I’ve been using Smog Express for many years now and have only had good experiences. The charge is typical. There is a decent air-​conditioned waiting room with a TV and even a little patio.
Don’t forget to warm up your car before the test to increase your chances of a pass.

This is the third vehicle my family has had inspected (emissions) by this shop in the past several months. We have been pleased with the service on each occasion. The staff are courteous and helpful and seem to run a smooth operation. The tests were performed quickly and the process was explained clearly. I recommend this business.

Quickest smog check I’ve ever gotten. Walked to the ATM at the Chase bank nearby, got cash, and came back to find it done.
They mentioned that the will be closing this location soon, but the other Sacramento locations are remaining open.

Took exactly 24 minutes on a Friday about 11:15 a.m. There was someone in front of me, but they took my car first because the person in front of me was coming back to pick the car up later on that day.
Excellent customer service. I brought my car in because I was selling it (and CA requires a smog check on cars 4 model years or older) and the friendly young lady at the counter offered up some good advice about making sure the buyer follows through with registering the car in a timely manner, because if they do something bad and the car’s still registered in my name, I could be on the hook.
It sounds like they’re losing their lease soon, but they do have another location closer to 65^th Street that they’re giving out coupons for after you visit and get your smog certificate.
If you’re a new customer, they give you a 10% off credit (about 5 bucks) making the grand total just slightly higher than other shops around town, but for the speed, convenience, and not feeling grungy, I’d pay the extra couple a bucks. Nice outdoor waiting area, too – outside waiting area has some lattice work overhead to shield the sun – inside waiting area is a bit cramped, but not a big deal since you’re only going to be there for less than 30 minutes most days.

Decided to come here today as my car needed to be Smog Tested and I came here two years ago for the original test. Walked up to the window, where I was welcomed immediately from one of the employees and they immediately went to work as there was no wait.
Small cleaning waiting room with a few magazines, tv, and a newspaper laying around.
Smog test was completed in less time than it went to go to Willie’s and come back. Other Unilocal review’s were quite handy with the 10% coupon dropping the price to $ 53 out the door. They also handed me a $ 10 off coupon as I was leaving that never expires.

I’ve been taking all my cars to Smog Express for years now, and have never been disappointed. I know the owner Steve personally, and he is a top notch guy. His staff is friendly and they get the job done fast. I’m usually out of there in 15 min if there’s nobody ahead of me.
He has a nice waiting room with TV, water, and plenty of magazines. Also all the former Tower Books/​Video/​Records stores are just a few hundred feet away. You can check out R5 and Avid reader and before you know it your car is ready.
His price is reasonable too, around $ 55 for the check + certificate (I believe there’s a $ 5 off coupon in the phone book). Pay them a visit, you’ll be glad you did.
