Don’t bother with this place. Fried fish and chicken pieces were overcooked and dry. Jambalaya was very greasy. The only saving grace were the greens which were good. This was just disappointing and definitely not worthy of the high reviews it has.

I ate here a few years ago and have always wanted to return. Food today was as great as I remembered it! I had the catfish and wings all cooked to perfection. Fries were battered style and very good. The only think I found lacking was the coleslaw have never been served such a small portion. Had a side of gumbo looked very good and tasted excellent. If you need a fried food fix this is the place but come on daylight hours.

Really disappointed with this place. Chicken tenders were dry and didn’t have much flavor. Cat fish wasn’t special. Would never go back.

Been here twice once I found out we had one in Sacramento. The food is just as good or better than the one they used to have in Stockton. First time I ordered a Red Snapper/Catfish combo plate. They gave me three large pieces of each, plus a nice amount of fries and two pieces of wheat bread under the fish. Second time around, I ordered the Red Snapper/Oyster combo plate. Never tried oysters by themselves but this was good enough to make me try them again. The amount of food you get for the price of a combo plate($ 11 or so) is well worth it. I’m 6’2225lbs and I can barely eat all of the food even if I wanted to. You can order online at this store and put how long you want the order to be made. Everything is fresh and made to order anyway but the fresher it is, the better it is going to taste.

Wow! The food is delicious. The wait time was very minimum. The amount of food is well worth the price.

Came in here while I was down in the area and thought it sounded good. The place was a little different than I was expecting. There was a lot of bakery items that were being sold in the case and all over the counter and thats the first thing you see when you come in. It kinda threw off the vibe. I was expecting either a sit down southern style place or a fish and chips kinda order at the window and they bring to you place. Neither really matched up with this place but its closer to the later. There were a few people ahead of us and when it was our turn I asked a few questions about the menu but the girl didn’t have the answers and didn’t seem knowledgable about the items offered. I was still hopeful that the food would be fresh and not just frozen items in a bag that were deep fried. I asked about the fried zucchini and she asked the guy in the kitchen and he said the zucchini was fresh, unfortunately that was not the case they were pre-made breaded Carl’s Jr. type of zucchini. My friend got the cheese sticks and fries. I tried the fries they weren’t anything special and she said the cheese sticks were like everywhere else. WARNING do not use the restroom! Unless its an emergency. That was one part of the place I didn’t need to see but needed to wash my hands before eating finger foods. Its around the side and you need a key lets just say if you don’t need to go don’t bother I found it hard to get out of there without touching something that defeated the purpose of me washing my hands.

Poor service, food is all soggy now, before it was very well crispy and seasoned, not worth coming anymore

I love me some JJ’s, although I’ve never had anything but the fish. The orange roughy the perch and the oysters are good however I would love if there were a little bit more flavor. Too bad they don’t deliver.

Man oh man. I was in heaven. Got the chicken wings, catfish filets and jumbo shrimp with Mac n cheese and banana pudding to top it off. Also tried their lemonade. It was well worth the drive over. I had Unilocaled this place before my trip to Sactown and I’m glad I did. I will be going back when I’m back in town.

This place would get 5 stars if it was solely based on keeping it real. Real ghetto. I came here around 9 pm and every other customer either looked they was almost homeless, dressed like cracked out prostitute or smelled like weed. There were two confusing lines, and it even had a sign informing customers not to reach over the counter to get extra condiments. Had to keep my hands in my pockets and pretend I was holding a gun, just so I’d fit in. I got the fried cat fish and jambalaya. While the fish was 5 stars, the jambalaya was the worst thang I’ve eaten in a decade. I think they bought week old fried rice from a Chinese restaurant on stockton blvd, and marinated it in ketchup. But I still finished that shit off because all that 2nd hand weed gave me the munchies. I will only be back when I’m craving fish, and it’s early afternoon, and feel the need to relive my ghetto youth. 1995 baby!

I’m a regular at J J’s and while it is a hole in the wall and not in the most appealing area in town, don’t let that stop you or fool you. The menu is to die for. I usually order the combo Cat Fish Fillet Chicken Wing which comes with a very large Order Fries of Fries and a small cole slaw with 2 pieces of bread underneath it all. Their Jambalaya is very good. Fried Oysters Collard Green on certain days The best Red Velvet cake in town. The best part is you can get them open late night. Even later on the weekend when everything worth eating is closed. I’ll keep coming back here as long as they stay open.

I ordered the Catfish filet(small). It was a pretty good amount for a small. I didn’t finish it all! I also ordered 2 fried oysters. Okay now to be honest the fish was nothing to rant and rave about unfortunately. It was cooked perfectly but just not much seasoning honestly. Now as for the oysters?! AMAZING! & I don’t just mean the oysters. But the batter was so flavorful(unlike the fish). If they used that on the fish it would have been PERFECT! would definitely go back for those oysters.

Every now and then I need a break from the healthy structure of meal prep. When I take these breaks, I like to indulge in some form of fried food. This desire usually leads me to Wingstop or JJ’s Chicken and Fish. Although folks complain about the location(most great food spots are located in the hood) and the sketchy folks that hang around the restaurant, JJ’s is one of the best spot’s to get fried fish(I have never tried their chicken) in South Sac. I’m a creature of habit, so I usually order their two item combo of Red snapper(or Catfish) and Calamari. Although they are generally busy on the weekends, they still manage to have your food to you in a decent amount of time. I am never short of amazed by how well the fish is fried, their delicious fries, and the large portion that you receive(definitely not a place for«calorie counters). I prefer to dine-in because the food never quite taste the same when it has been sitting in a Styrofoam box. Even my 2 year old was satisfied with his fish sticks kid’s meal(check out the look on his face in the uploaded picture)! My only complaint(and it’s hardly a complaint) is that they stop including the two slices of bread in every combo meal(make it an option). In comparison to the large portion of food that you already receive, I think the bread is overkill for most people(I feel bad for tossing it). I’m a regular customer and I will definitely be returning!

After looking at food pictures from New Orleans for a couple of hours I realized the salad I had brought for lunch wasn’t going to get eaten. I needed some down home southern food. Not in the mood for Sandra Dees I did a Unilocal search for fried catfish. JJs was the first place to come up and I knew it would only take about 5 minutes to get there. I was so giddy it was as if I was already on my way to the French Quarters. As soon as I walked in the man at the counter was asking me what I wanted. I gathered myself and ordered the small catfish, which can feed two normal people, and an order of okra. If you love fried okra you know how hard it is to come by in Sacramento. The only other places that I know of that make it are Churches Chicken and Golden Corral. Please message me if you know of any other places. The catfish was everything I had hoped for. It was fried to perfection with a nice southern crust. The okra that didn’t even survive the ride back to the office might be the best Sacramento has to offer. The okra wasn’t the least bit greasy and the breading had a firm hold on each nugget. If you have a craving for some fried deliciousness make sure you make your way to JJs.

There aren’t a lot of parking spots, but I was able to get one when I pulled up. I ordered my meal though the Unilocal app. It was quick and easy. It even let me tell them what time I was going to pick up my order. When I went in, the lady told me my order was ready for a while. I guess they missed the part on what time I was going to come in. She took my food back to the kitchen and told me to wait a few minutes. She may have given my food to the cook and had it fried again. The catfish was crispy and lightly battered. It was also moist and flaky. The calamari, however, was overly chewy. Fries were also included. Everybody that I shared it with liked them. There were two tiny containers of coleslaw, which were alright. Underneath all this were 2 slices of wheat bread. I guess it’s used to soak up all the oil. The waitress gave me containers of tartar sauce, hot sauce, and ketchup to go with my food. The hot sauce was very spicy. There were a variety of cake slices if you want dessert.

I was finally deep in the cuts one day and womanned up enough courage to venture in to get the fried goodyness that you could only find in the hood. I’m glad I did too. The parking lot is small, the space is small, but the food comes supersized. Ohhh lordy lord! The catfish was moist with a light, crisp batter. The filet was a thick slab of butteryness. It was bigger than my hand! And I had two pieces of both catfish and snapper– so 4 total on top of a heaping pile of fries and 2 wheat bread slices. The snapper was dry and tasted healthier, but just not my cup of grease. The fries are not steak fries, but are fatter than skinny fries. Normally I’m not a fan of fat fries because they’re too potatoe-y and soggy, but these were so crispy! Some are oil soaked but I loved the crunchyness of it all. I got lucky because a calamari lost its way into my fries so I got a taste of that little guy. Lets just say I’ll be coming back for the rest of his family. I caught the chef peeking out to check out his clientele every time a customer was ordering. Funny. Great price vs portion size, fresh seafood, and fry cook with skills. Who doesn’t love that? «I don’t,» said my artery. Shut up, you know nothing! I’ll definitely be swinging by here again. plus, I have a dinner date with that little lost guy’s family.

My friends and I were so hungry that we were having a hard time deciding what to eat. I ran a search for«good seafood restaurants,“and J J’s Chicken and Fish was the first place on the list. From the street its hard to find as J J’s is set back from the street and sandwiched between a smoke shop and a liquor store. That’s interesting, hmmm… There are only 4 parking spots in front of the store, so I guess I got lucky as there was one open when I pulled in. The inside of JJ’s is somewhat«divey». It seemed that this place is focused on take out orders. Unfortunately the AC was not working and it happened to be 104 degrees outside, thus it felt like 110 degrees inside. I took a look at the menu and had to make a snap decision since I felt as though I would melt into a big puddle due to extreme heat. Don’t know how the cooks were handling it, Nevertheless, the host was very polite and apologetic in regards to the broken AC. I noticed a large fan plugged in by the door, but it didn’t seem to help. I ordered the 3 way plate to share with my friends, and a side of okra. The 3-way plate had chicken tenders, catfish, and Tilapia. Our food was delivered to our table within 10 minutes, and it it looked fresh and delicious. We started to dig in however, after sweating profusely, we all decided to go to my friend’s apartment and enjoy the rest of our meal from home. I really enjoyed the food at JJ’s as it reminded me of a Midwestern fish fry The breading was cornmeal based, as it should be for this type of fish, and seasoned deliciously. Aside from the climatic control issues, I would most definitely eat at JJ’s again, however, I would probably phone in for take– out next time.

Perfect!!! I ordered a small fried catfish, they gave me this box that was filled. Three good sized pieces of catfish, fries, and a couple slices of brown bread. The catfish was sooo delicious! Nicely coated with cornmeal and perfectly fried. The fries were crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. All served with Tatar sauce(a little weird), ketchup, and some blazing hot hot sauce. For just over $ 10, I had enough for two people plus a can of soda. If you don’t like fish, there’s many other choices. I saw a lot of people getting chicken wings to go. You can call in your order, I noticed the phone kept ringing with orders. The dining area is «rustic» and there is no air conditioner and a large fan. One dining table outside. The parking is a bit funky. Go slow pulling in, the curb is a bit steep. The restroom is outside on the side of the building… no, you don’t pee on the building, there is an actual restroom. I try not to write a review after just one visit but BOI the fried catfish was awesome! It’s worth a visit, I’ll be back to try more of the menu.
