History
Established in 2008.
Golden Moments inspiration comes from the owner’s care of her mother for the past 14 years, who suffered from dementia. A ‘Golden Moment’ could also be referred to as an «A-Ha Moment», when a resident has a hearty laugh with staff, says something profound, completes a task encouraged, expresses gratitude to staff for their care, etc. These Golden Moments are cherished and celebrated on a daily basis. Having also been a conservator for my step-father, also afflicted with dementia over 15 years ago, and experiencing the sub-standard care in large assisted living facilities, nursing homes, day care programs, and a 6-bed care home. The struggles to find and advocate for appropriate care of all personal needs, medical needs, and psycho-social needs was a continuous battle. Typically, the simple things were missed, such as a warm approach, saying hello, validating and love and touch were absent. The isolation, over-medicating, numerous falls, and UTI’s were overwhelming for my family.

If you are looking for personal care and attention for a loved one, this is definitely our specialty. Over half of our caregivers have been with Golden Moments for over 3 years, and are adored by the residents, families and myself. While all senior care facilities are not equal, I wish to encourage families who are seeking placement for a loved one suffering from dementia to visit and tour the smaller 6-bed care homes, where staff to resident ratio is generally much better than the larger ones. I realize these are life changing decisions for families, as no one really wants to place mom or dad in a ‘home’… however, once you found the right place with the right staff, their lives can be celebrated and cherished. Plus you may discover a renewed zest for life. Our seniors need lots of personal attention and whenever possible appropriate activities and hobbies to engage them and give them a sense of accomplishment, and being a part of family.
