New owners and the name has changed to Skillet. Many of the same workers remain. Not much has changed. Still great food at reasonable prices. Just sayin’.

We’ve only been to Grannies for breakfast. It’s a greasy spoon that we go to regularly. The positives: biscuits, grits, coffee and hashbrowns. The eggs are well prepared although sometimes a little too much grease. They need better quality bacon. The wait staff is a little surly but interesting to observe. Ownership just changed hands so I’ll be curious to see if there will be any changes coming. A good scrubbing and paint job would be my recommendation! We’ll continue to go for breakfast.

I’ve visited this place a couple times when I’ve had extra time before work. Talk about old school. Place looks like something out of the 1950’s. But hey, that can be a good thing. The food is good. This isn’t your hippie fancified breakfast joint. This is classic eggs, meat & hash browns kind of food. But it’s done really well, so that’s perfectly fine. The coffee is great too, which is very important indeed. And did I mention the price? Most places have you at $ 8-$ 10 before they even count your coffee. 2 Eggs, Hash browns, a biscuit, and coffee here run you $ 5.44. Pre-tip, but still. Just a word to the wise: 1. They only take cash. There’s a gas station across the street from the place with an ATM, but you might want to avoid fees. 2. They have an outhouse. Not a bathroom, but an outhouse. If you aren’t ready for that, again, gas station across the street.

We have eaten there long ago, and even when it was the pie place before Grannies. It has really deteriorated, notwithstanding a comment by a waitress that nothing has changed here except the prices. She may have been right about the oil used to fry my chicken, and the stained ceiling tiles and the restrooms outside, and probably menu items. But it reflects overall poor maintenance and food quality and demands cash payment. My chicken had an off flavor, my wifed«fried chicken» sandwich was a hockey puck, and my sister’s fish platter was mushy. Notable good items were cucumber salad, coffee and bread pudding. Service was also efficient and friendly, but we will not repeat, even if breakfasts are still good.

I happened to be in Ruskin on business and was looking for a breakfast joint. I see this run down looking restaurant with a parking lot loaded with cars so I decided to check it out. I got the last open table and was quickly greeted by a server. This place was packed and everybody looked happy… a good sign. I ordered my breakfast and it was served quickly and was delicious. Really good breakfast at an amazingly low price and great service. I wish I lived closer because It would be my local hangout.

Grannies is another Ruskin institution that has seen decades of tourists and regulars alike. It is another family owned establishment, done diner style, inside a restaurant. On my last visit, still no upgrades & bathrooms still out back, behind the building. Yes, it could use a facelift or 2 or 3, but that has nothing to do with the food This is good for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Many servers have worked here for 20 years or more. There are many regulars, that have their special table & hang out their for hours on end. You also must watch the time you go, or you could be in for a wait. Yes, Grannies is that popular. For me my favorite mesl here is usually breakfast. On my last visit I did the standard eggs over medium, crisp bacon, hash brown’s & whole wheat toast. They say the true test of a cook, is doing eggs properly. My eggs almost always come out perfect, & this was no exception. Bacon was crisp, no complaints, a nice hearty breakfast to start the day. All of this comes at a reasonable price. Gotta admit, if you aren’t used to the interior & lack of any real appeal, I might be put off. Go with your gut, live a little, restaurants don’t stay open this many years, unless they have something going for them. Just real down home food, for real folk. I enjoy spending time at Grannies & doing a bit of people watching & getting a nice hot meal. Don’t expect miracles, but depend on sound family food. What’s a girl to do? Keep enjoying some places for many years.

Great hangover breakfast. The corned beef hash was excellent. The biscuit, the sausage, the eggs, well everything was very tasty. It was busy, which is traditionally a good sign, but does mean you may have to wait a bit for the food. But it was worth the wait. Cash only, so be sure to bring some… Cash that is.

No air conditioning. Always hot in there. Food is so so at best however that is what I would expect for the cheap price. Price is the only plus. Corn beef hash is from a can, chicken fried chicken is the only thing decent I have ate here and even it was just average. The portion are large however

My daughters and I stopped here after snorkeling with the manatees at Bird’s Underwater. We were a little wet, very cold and even more hungry. For $ 19.50 we each had a huge breakfast, some of the best coffee ever and felt like ourselves again. Dont miss Grannies!

Went for«brunch» and had the chicken fried steak… which was AMAZING! Best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had! My husband had the ham and cheese omelet(he says that the omelet is the way you judge a truly good breakfast place). He said it was the best he’s ever had, which is saying something because he is truly picky. Our daughter had the chicken tenders which were actually REAL chicken which is saying something now days. Might be a «hole» in the wall… but who cares when the food is this good! :) We will definitely be back!

Finally had the chance to check out Grannies restaurant. Found that this place Is jumping with the locals early in the mornings, it seems mostly the older folks which isn’t a bad thing. Oh yeah and did I mention there cash only. When you first walk in your not sure if you’re to wait at the door for someone to seat you or If you seat your self so I just decided to sit me and my son down in a booth and the waitress knew right away to bring a high chair which was very nice of her. I personally like how the staff was able to communicate with each other and throw conversations back and forth to customers in that aspect it does make it feel like you’re kind of at home. The location is nothing more to be desired I mean come on it’s ruskin. I’ve been in worse locations for example Guadalupe Arizona. I do agree that cleanliness welcomes a lot more customers and that place needs to be shined up or maybe remodeled. I’d like to say I’m kind of a clean freak so there were a few moments in the area where we are sitting that I couldn’t help not look at wonder why someone did not clean that or did not wipe that… So finally to the food. I ordered one of their specials which was two eggs two pancakes and choice of two bacon or two sausage or one sausage patty. I decided to go with just the two sausages I also ordered a biscuit and gravy on the side. I needed something to drink so I got coffee and an orange juice. The waitresses was very attentive and asked me if I wanted the biscuits and gravy out first I said yes that would be great for my son, so she went straight to the kitchen and ask for the biscuits and gravy right away which was very very nice. After that came I was able to feed him so he wasn’t i guess you could say annoying customers. My food came shortly after I tried the sausage which tasted a little funky. The eggs I ordered Sunnyside up then they were normal just like any other Sunnyside up and my pancakes were slightly overdone but still good. All in all for the price you pay and the service you get it’s still a good value although there are some areas in the restaurant that do need improvement for example the cleaning is one and some of the tables probably need to be updated. With that being said I do plan on making a second visit thank you Granny’s restaurant.

A small local spot serving well priced breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Food is cooked to order and seating is self serve so it can get busy sometimes. Staff is very pleasant and treat you like family.

This place opens M — F at 5:30 am, great for breakfast. Many locals eat here, and have their favorite table. It gets packed fast so best to come early. The pictures added are around 5:45 am. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, enough parking. Great tasting food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. BOTTOMLINE: This is right down the road from my home, this is my second time eating there with my family. I will go again.

Bit of a hole in the wall. Went there for breakfast. Server was attentive and polite. The breakfast was… good. Not great. When I’m on vacation I want to find that family place that serves a stellar breakfast. This was close but not that place. The pancakes were better than average but not up to Cracker Barrel standards. I found the biscuits and gravy to be lacking in quality and I couldn’t tell if the biscuits were homemade or not. Also the coffee was overly strong(i.e. navy coffee). There is value here though and it seems to be the only place in town that serves breakfast all day for a good price so it’s got that going for it. Please don’t take this as a bash review. Like I said, it was a good breakfast and I would go there again if I were in town but just trying to give an honest review.
