Love love love this place! Definitely my favorite work spot when I’m back home. It’s much cooler than the chain shops(read: Starbucks, caribou) that are around there, without the pretentious feel. Coffee is made well, always, there’re always people doing work(even on the weekends) and they’re open decently late. Friendly staff, great selection of drinks, great selection of food, and they have almond milk!

Coffee drinks. Nice corner location. We stopped in after dinner and walking around to look at the holiday lights. We had a group of 8 and most of got the spiced pumpkin latte. Everyone enjoyed it! I will say that seating is limited on a Saturday evening.

Like their pumpkin spicy latte and milk tea. They will occasionally hold some special events. Good place to spend time with your friends!

If you’re comparing them to nearby coffee shops, this is the five star place. Much roomier and more peaceful setting then nearby Starbucks, PLUS they have bubble tea!!! For only $ 4!(Big size!). Very pleasant art decorating walls as well as local pastries from detroit artisans.(Vs pre-made and shipped in at Starbucks) Yes, the outside tables face the metered parking lot but this is downtown royal oak, you’re not going to get a rustic view, so not sure why other Unilocalers criticized that part? Also, really really clean. Toaster and microwave for your use and free wifi.(Password on display at counter) This is my new hang while daughters in salon for cut and color down the street!

Went to Bean and Leaf for the first time the other day, and I was more than satisfied. The atmosphere was peaceful. I also appreciated the local art that is displayed on the shop walls. My mocha was beautiful and tasted amazing. I will definitely be going back.

Had great time there to relax with a green tea smoothie after a heavy dinner, very nice and friendly owner, some decorations are even made by the owner, very interesting to know about. A much unique and better choice than Starbucks. Give it a try!

You’re typical coffee house in the city. Lots of places to sit inside and out, but there are also tables in the back alley… not sure who would want to sit there by all the delivery trucks and dumpster.

Good coffee choices and quaint place, but the service is very slow. It’s tough to choose this place over other options because I know it’s going to be a wait.

I was not impressed with this place, mainly because of the staff. I decided to order a vanilla latte with marshmallow flavoring, it sounded good(and they were out of the cinnamon flavoring I wanted), and the woman actually gave me a hard time and said it was a kids’ drink usually and was confused why I ordered it. She said that in front of the other customers and she was not joking. It was rude and I was shocked. They were also slow, my coffee was so hot that I went through 3 coffee sleeves(they have cheap sleeves). I couldn’t drink it for 20 minutes. The best thing about the place was that it looked cute inside, and they sold delicious honey peanut flax bars. I would go back to buy those, and that’s it.

Free Wi-Fi, nice space, overall a quality coffee bar experience. Beats most Biggby’s or Starbucks in my book. I haven’t been here in awhile and I should probably come in again soon, when I’m next in town.

Decent coffee shop, but definitely far from the best experience. As non-locals, we had only gone once, and while the space is nice, open, and relatively welcoming, we ordered espresso macchiatos and had to tell the«barista» how to make them. She was very nice, but was the only person working, and really should’ve been given some support if she’s not prepared. I appreciated her asking me to remind her of how to make the drink, though. Some baristas may have tried to wing it and hope we accepted whatever drink he or she conjured up, but this particular woman was willing to admit her confusion. Kudos to her for that. The drink was decent enough that I wouldn’t shy from going back if I were in the area. If you’re looking to support smaller coffee shops, it’s certainly worth checking out.

This place is like a bad joke. I don’t know what has happened, but the quality and service has gone way down in the last few years. I go out of my way to hit this place up instead of going to Starbucks across the street, but no more. Here’s why: Yesterday I came in and ordered and iced cinnamon brown sugar soy latte. I was given a hot latte. When I politely said it was supposed to be iced, the rude barista told me «well, didn’t tell me that» … Yes, yes I did. I ONLY ever drink iced drinks. I went back today, again wanting to support a small business. Ordered an iced soy latte from a woman. She gives me an iced vanilla latte so sweet I can’t taste any espresso. I politely tell her it was supposed to be just a regular iced soy latte, no flavor. She proceeds to tell me «Oh, well you said vanilla» … NO I DIDNOT. OMG, stop telling me what I said! Is there some hidden camera somewhere waiting for me to freak out?! Learn some manners and also, start listening to your customers. Goodbye forever.

Liked this place a lot, and I will definitely be coming back for a cookie or desserts one of these days — they had huge cookies for $ 1.99, which at Astoria down the street would be like $ 3 – 4 I’m guessing. I went here on a date, I got the chai tea latte. Didn’t really think that through because it was like 75 out today, but it was yummy nonetheless. I asked if they had soy and/or almond milk, and they offer both, so I got it with almond milk. I believe a 16 oz.(small) was $ 3.15, not sure if almond milk was extra since I was not the one paying. Cute little café too, with entrances on both Main St. and a back entrance facing Washington St. I will be back :).

Everything about bean and leaf is great. The tea is quality and the coffee blend is unique to their name. Royal oak is a very active city and bean and leaf is the perfect compliment to the city. They have so many unique tea varieties that correlate with the seasons! Fall is always the best season to have coffee or tea and bean and leaf and you’ll love everything bean and leaf has to offer!

This is what iced coffee is supposed to be! Great coffee, ice, half & half and homemeade simple syrup. Served with a smile too(and this was 15 minutes before closing). Even the lemon bar was terrific.
