Opa! Greek Taverna

I decided on a whim to try this place a couple of weeks ago because I am so tired of everything. I had never tried Greek cuisine and that was the only reason I hadn’t tried it before because I have driven by it so many times.
We came in for a late lunch and so many things looked good to try but we are indecisive and were having trouble narrowing it down to a single dish. The waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable and so we decided to try the Tour of Greece. It has a huge variety of everything on it and could probably feed 4 people easily. Everything on the plate was fantastic and now I am kicking myself for not trying Greek cuisine before now!
I have since gone back twice to try the Dolmades and Spanakopita which are both really good. I can’t stress in words how much I love the food here. It is my new favorite place and I think even if I were to move to the other side of Fort Worth, I would drive over just to eat here. Everyone I have talked to in there has been nothing but helpful and friendly.

Needed a quick dinner tonight and craving a gyros. Called in an order to pick up. We ordered the gyros pitas and fries. They were delicious and full of meat! The sauce was just right. Neither one of us even ate the fries because the pita alone was enough. Service was great and friendly, Restaurant was busy and smelled delicious. I had to wait a few minutes but no problem enjoyed the live music.

Food is outstanding! Generally the service is as well but this evening, «Bre» was rude and condescending. I asked what was in the «med» cocktail drink. She responded, «ah I don’t know, lime.» It got worse from there. Note to owner: your food is way too good to have her diminish your hard work. Replace her.

This place is as good as it gets! Locally owned and operated, a huge menu, and not one thing is less than excellent. They have a Craft-​only draft beer line up with a full bar if you are wanting a beverage with your meal, and a great dessert selection. Can’t go wrong with Opa!

Came here to give it a try. Came hungry and figured being Greek food, I didn’t think it would be too filling. I was wrong. The food was delicious and we over ordered… Definitely the gyros was great and also the lamb chops as well!
The food was great but what gave us that amazing experience was the music here as well. The guitarist, Joe, definitely made the night alive.
The owner, Kostas, also made us feel very welcome and informed us all the events they have coming up and specials. I recommended this place to anyone and everyone.
My pregnant wife devoured the desserts as well lol.

Having moved to Rowlett just this past month, we hit up Opa! in an effort to hit all the unique restaurants around the area. After only one visit, this place has become my new favorite Greek restaurant. The service was flawless, (Shout-​out to Daniel, you were a terrific server, very knowledgeable, and your recommendations were great.) Every item we ordered came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Between the 4 of us, we had the Greek-​style meatballs, the Moussaka, Gyro platter, and the Chicken Pita. We also had Saganaki to start (of course!), and 3 different desserts, (chocolate cake, baklava cake, and rice pudding.)
Portion size was fairly large — 3 of us had enough left over to take home afterwards. I could not be more pleased after that initial visit. We will definitely be repeat customers here.

Not fully a Mediterranean taste.

Awesome service, delicious tasty foods, comfortable and warm atmosphere. Order the original gyro sandwich. Just like the Turkish used to make at the donor kebab placed in Germany, which were, until recently when I went here, the best I have had in the world and I travel a lot.

I live in Houston but was in Dallas one weekend looking for a place to eat dinner. We found this place on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed.
I had the chicken slouvaki platter and my wife had the Greek salad. Both were excellent. Everyone in our group like the tzatziki sauce and said it was one of the best they have tasted. I agreed. But the thing not to miss is the baklava cheesecake! Wow it’s good.
The service was also excellent. One in our party cannot have Gluten. Our server went out of her way to recommend and put together parts of different plates to make a Gluten free dish. She was also prompt and always pleasant.
If I lived near this place I would eat here often.

Love this Place. We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The food is really delicious and their specialty cocktails are quite inventive. We enjoy the atmosphere and the wait staff is nice and efficient. They accommodated our special request with no problems and big smiles. My favorite dish is the original Gyros platter. Can’t get enough of it. Best hummus around. Make sure to try the Octopodi. It is really unique and VERY delicious. Comes with a free shot of Ouzo which is sooo Greek!
We will keep coming back here often. So glad it is located in Rowlett. It is refreshing to have something besides Mexican food!

I have ate here 3 times, since I found a Greek Restaurant in Rowlett. The food they serve takes me back to what my mom use to prepare. I have had all different servers, wait on me. They all seem to be happy your here and like working there. There is large restaurants you could travel to in Plano or Dallas. For now I will go with the local business and under dog. Give them time this will be come a great destination for Greek Food and Local Crafted Beers.

Spread platter was dee-​lish. Gyros were awesome. Service was phenomenal.

I had a great experience on my first visit to Opa! the other night. The food was all great, (flavorful and well presented; a welcome departure from typical «Texas-​y», fried fare) the ambience was nice and the service was perfect. Our young waiter was enthusiastic about the menu and happy to explain the menu items and answer our questions. We sampled falafel, souvlaki and baklava and Napolean cake – all were wonderful. I’ll definitely be back.

One of my favorite places! Save room for desert… They are awesome here.

Wow. Where do I begin? We walked in on a Tuesday evening at around 6:00 pm. The reviews were what drew us in. Immediately we were greeted by the sound of a lone guitarist and a warm and welcoming dining room. Seating is casual (seat yourself) but the service is definitely 5 star. Our waiter was amazing. He recommended we try the cheese dish. It was delicious and entertaining — they light it on fire then it is all warm and melty. Uh!
We had your typical entrees but there was nothing typical about this place. The food was so good! Even the pita bread and Greek salad were amaze-​azing! We HAD to try desert. Had a warm walnut cake with chocolate and honey. Yeah, fought with the kids about who got to lick the plate.
Service was terrific. We must have been helped by at least 3 different people and our waiter was Iike a magician– refills just appeared out of nowhere. On the way out they even held the door open and thanked us for stopping by. Who does that?!? Can’t say enough about our experience.

I was so pleased when i came in. Didn’t know what to expext, never had
was diffrent, good, lots of flavor. Green beans soaked in red wineeveeyrhing was very good but let me tell u what really stood out was rhe customer service. Omg very good. from the rime i put in my ro go order till i left feom picking it up i was so impressed. I might go to there bar inside one day it looks very clean and i like rhis customer friendly atmosphere. Like people actually like there job.

It has occurred to me that having 6 check in’s at a restaurant you rate a 3, is beyond misleading.
Try the Greek Flight… it’s tasty. Lamb Souvlaki… yum…
OPA!

Had a craving for a gyro! So Unilocaled it & found this place. Absolutely delicious, the gyro was so tasty & the fries had some kick to them, so good! Service was quick, the gyro was made real quick. Hardly any waiting at all. Very clean restaurant, bathroom was clean. Plenty of parking out front & out back. The only drawback for 5 stars was the waitress. I asked her for a straw for my water. Said ok, but never returned, ignored my table for the rest of the time. Took the mgr coming over to ask how everything was to get my straw.
Priced right, quick service, except being ignored by waitress, all was good.

I really love Greek food. I practically grew up on the stuff. I want to think that my first word was «Souvlaki». When this place opened in our sleepy-​ish little town, I couldn’t be happier but admittedly, I had my apprehensions. Were they going to be good? Were they going to be affordable? And perhaps the most important question: Were they going to be authentic?
I am happy to report that they are all of the above. The gyro is superb. Some of the best I have ever had. Their salad dressing is delicious and I am convinced that they have some sort of addictive ingredient in there that makes you crave more.
The only reason I did not give them 5 stars was because of an issue we had while dining in one evening. My partner and I were there one evening and who I am assuming is either the manager or the owner was doing what they normally do which was walk around, chat with the tables, see how everything was going, and just overall, playing nice. I watched him approach every single table around us and chat with them but he never did come to ours. He never even as much smiled at us to acknowledge our presence. He just looked at us and looked away. He went to the table in front, in back, and both tables to the side of us (we were in the center of the dining room) and not once did he indicate that he had any desire to come over. I thought it was just very strange.
I want to believe I made it up in my head and that this was not intentionally a homophobic act however, given the situation, I can’t help but think these ugly thoughts. We have always had great and wonderfully welcoming experiences here in Rowlett, and so, I do not want to start the negative trail now. We have since only ever gotten take-​out from there so that we do not have to feel singled out again.
The servers are all great and the food, like previously mentioned, is authentic and delicious. We do recommend them!

This is a heavy handed five star review! I write that because I love this place and I have to control myself from going everyday. That says a lot about their food and the quality of the folks that work here. The owner Is Kostas Lazanas who’s father is from Greece and his mother is Texan and while his background may imply that Opa is fusion of Greek and Texan styles, don’t worry, this place is all Greek. From the Avgolemono Soup to the tasty tzatziki sauce you will feel like you have found a portal to greece. They have a full bar that offers Ouzo, Tsipouro and Masticha of Chios as well as some local craft beers that are on tap.
Kostas has created a family atmosphere with a staff that is friendly and appear to love working at Opa Greek Taverna. He is a hands on owner who I see there more often than not and also appears to love his business. Although a lot of greek staples are on the menu it does not stop him from being creative. He concocted the salad dressing and I have never had a better dressing and I buy extra to dress my salads at home. Look for their dressing at Sprouts and some other grocery stores soon!
Their gyro is so good it took me many visits to try anything else and I was was not suprised to find everything else is just as wonderful. The portions are generous and unforgettablly good and the sides are incredible. My favorite side is the Greek green beans, delicious! If you like greek food and are anywhere near Rowlett, get in here and meet Kostas and his staff and enjoy some fantastic greek food and wonderful service. If you are not near Rowlett, I will tell you that they are worth the drive. They will make you shout– OPA!
