NEVER get a Dell
HORRIBLE customer service. I ordered A Dell XPS computer from a website and it came to me being corrupted and the HDMI port did not work. I spoke to them once for 3.5 hours trying to resolve the issue and after being transferred to 13 different people and saying the same thing over and over they told me that the department I needed to reach closed 3 hours ago.
The second time I spoke to them a day later I spent another 3 hours on the phone with them and took me 2.5 hours of that time to get a hold of a supervisor for him to tell me he isn’t going to do anything.
NOTHING.
DO NOT buy a Dell computer. This is the worse experience I have EVER had with a company.

I’ve been a die hard Dell advocate for over a decade. I’ve always had nothing but good things to say about the quality of Dell computers for my work, which is heavy graphic design and web development.
But this latest experience with trying to purchase a workstation has been the most absurd, ridiculous, frustrating, and infuriating experience ever. They couldn’t provide worse service if they tried. In fact, I think they are trying because there’s no way it could possibly be this bad otherwise.
It’s January, and I’ve been trying to purchase a very expensive 7910 workstation since September of last year! Something has gone wrong with my order every single time. The first time I purchased the workstation in September it took over two months to be delivered, when they had told me it would be one month. They never even notified me of the delay, either — it simply didn’t show up on the day it was supposed to. When I finally got it, I discovered that they had given me blatantly wrong information regarding the graphics card. I asked them what’s the difference between an Nvidia K2200 and K4200, which both have 4GB memory, but the K4200 is much more expensive. The «tech» told me the K4200 is newer that’s why it’s so much more expensive. That was completely wrong. The K2200 is newer, and is built on their new Maxwell board, which has greatly improved heat transfer, while the K4200 is on the older Kepler board. Although the K4200 is more powerful, the K2200 is perfect for what I do and I would have preferred the one with better heat transfer. Anything to get you to buy the more expensive component, I guess. They had also given me incorrect information about their SSD drives, and because of that, the hard drives were not configured how I had requested. I learned my lesson — do your own research because the Dell «techs» don’t know squat.
I had to send this workstation back. When it was credited back to me, I immediately reordered the corrected machine, which was on Dec 15^th. The new order was supposed to arrive on Jan 9. Instead, they cancelled the order on the 5^th and the only reason I even knew it was cancelled was because I logged in repeatedly to check the order status this time and saw that it was changed to cancelled just 4 days before it was supposed to arrive. They didn’t even notify me that it was cancelled. So I emailed to ask why it was cancelled, and they won’t even reply; it’s been 5 days now.
So, I call customer service, which is never open during their stated hours. I finally get a hold of someone who explains that there was a misconfiguration in my order. I ask why I was able to purchase it through the website, then? They said they don’t know, and they couldn’t tell me what the misconfiguration was in order to fix it. Instead, they offer to place the order again, exactly as is. Why would I place an order that has a misconfiguration in it?!!
I’ve never had to work so hard to spend many thousands of dollars at a company in my life. I’ve given up on them completely. They’ve lost a long time Dell customer, and I’m going to purchase a similar workstation through Lenovo. I’m expecting difficulty with them too, but there’s no way it could be even remotely as bad as Dell.
Such a shame that they care so little about their customers.

So DELL gets a bad wrap for the most part, but come on, still a player in the game.
I do love Mac’s but I’ve had a few DELL laptops in my day for work. They are industrial and like the Blackberry — good for email.

We still have a few XP computers running on the office network. One of them is about toast. I know, you’re asking what are we doing with XP computers. My daddy always said «If it aint broke dont fix it». (I don’t remember if he really said that)
For the last few days I have been trying to buy a replacement. The
small business website has been dumbed-​down to a point where customization of a computer really cannot be done. I actually got better service from calling in and talking to a rep (and yes, she was in India). Tabassum M took my order, helped me build the computer and now it is on its way to us.

Michael Dell, I hope that when you die, you go to Dell. In this magical realm, you will encounter an endless loop of customer service hold music and wish you had commissioned more than the one 12-​second loop to accompany you during the millennia you spend here. This wish came to me as I was chasing the trainwreck of my Dell customer experience. Not that I’m bitter.

Dell is the worst company to work for. Management has no idea what is going on. Ideas are ignored. College grads look elsewhere as they just work you hard until you quit. How can I give a negative star?

Dell prevents the customer from getting to speak to anyone in the USA. Dell has no customer service– dell’s idea is just sell the item and do nothing more.
Do not buy from them! dell will waste your time and do nothing.

Had problems from the start with dell
dell’s website would not take the dell advantage gift card, so I call dell– the salesperson had to take a long time just to match the website prices.
Then it was shipped wrong-​should have been 2 days was shipped fedex ground– each item was shipped on its own requiring a signature so– so I had to be around to sign for them.
The monitor had problems– would not have a clear picture-​I was on the phone with dell tech and customer service for 6 hours that day just to hear– send it back– I went on my own and purchased a new cable and it worked just fine– the cable that came with the monitor was bad.
If I was to send the monitor back it would of cost me more time– dell’s tech did not even say anything about the cable.
I have been on the telephone with dell for days, sitting on hold for hours.
In fact this is my second review due to the other never was posted This order cost me over 20 hours on the phone and it is not even finished now.

Now I know why they are no longer publicly traded IMHO.
I purchased a replacement battery for a laptop two weeks ago.
The battery dies after 1.5 hours of use vs 3 hours for original battery.
I called the customer ‘care’ number with my order number punched into he phone, but of course, I had to repeat it to the CSR who then put me on hold then sent me to technical support. TS turned out to be ‘projection systems’ she said you have wrong dept.
She transferred me back to TS (supposedly 800−822−8965.)
Same old drill — then I was transferred to the replacement department — no one could tell me why the battery now had a half life vs original –perhaps defective battery? duh!
after more hold and transferring, 35 minutes gone so far… Replacement dept says we can ship a new battery at 143 dollars! why should I pay for a battery I just got TWO weeks ago!!?
Then I was told well you can send back the ‘new’ battery and will send out replacement in 16 days! where is this battery coming via local train from India/​China/​Philippines?
Gets better! Then the CSR says I need to transfer you to Customer Service so that they can assist you.
I get transferred and while on hold. I get a DELL message sorry error EC101″ we are sorry you need to call back!“
Frustration: No proper English speaking person who comprehends English and a crappy customer service policy.
The only working number I found was (512) 728‑7800 which is investor relations where I left a voicemail.

There is clearly a disconnect between consumer home service and their bread and butter business clients. Dell really seems to be moving away from the fully customizable computers for more basic configurations.
Buying through a business I’ve been able to pay for domestic support. That seems to be a major issue for others with untrained overseas staff. With five laptops the only real issue was in the premium XPS m17xx series that had a faulty ac adapter. Dell wouldn’t replace even though the cable clearly was defective which cost $ 100 a couple of times aftermarket. The laptop is still great otherwise. Keyboards wear and have been replaced in and out of warranty as I can do it myself with eBay sourced keyboards.
My reasoning for the lower rating is the lack of configuration options. This was what made Dell great, now we are all forced into 2 – 3 configurations. Worse they don’t seem to have many power user options left.

Avoid Dell their MTBF is pathetic (IMHO)
A few magic words you will need to know if you are going to consider buying a Dell, or already own a Dell «I AM GOING TO DISPUTE THE CHARGES WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY» these few simple words will work wonders for you when dealing with these people.
My Credit card company said I could only dispute charges that are less than 6 months old, BUT! after informing them my dispute was with Alienware (a Dell owned company), they said it was no problem disputing the charges, even though they were over 8 months old (seems like Dell & associates are well known by credit card companies). Also google Dell Su*ks and read the horror stories about Dell, and how they treat our soldiers in other countries. It will make you sick.
Now to be fair Dell business computers seem to be decent, but for the average consumer. you mean nothing to them after the sale is made (IMHO).
Go with Acer, Asus, Sony, (not a big fan of H. Ps) Samsung.
even Apple (expensive and proprietary) and save yourself a headache (IMHO).

If I had it to go back and do again, I wouldn’t. My experience with Dell has been poor enough to convert me from being a PC user to Apple.
If I were going to buy another PC, I’d buy a Toshiba, Acer, or Asus.
I wouldn’t waste my money on their tech support. Better to just go to one of the local computer repair shops and get some real help.
The computer itself – the main problem is that the power adapter comes out All. The. Time. The battery dies quickly, so having a power adapter that slips out is a royal pain. My computer alerts me, but there is often not enough time for me to scramble to find the adapter and plug it back in.
But the problem began with a dishonest sales person, and though I was able to get credited for a lot of the problems with my first invoice, I didn’t receive everything I was promised.
The computer is a decent machine. But having a Dell isn’t worth the trouble.

Customer service its beyond horrible, no knowledge of the product at all. My friend got an apple computer for half of what I payed for mine! and the best part is mine doesn’t work anymore! I bought the COMPUTER LESS THEN 2 YEARS AGO!!!

Dude, do not get a Dell. There are way too many other computer companies that offer quality, inexpensive products. I bought a Dell laptop last year and decided after it arrived that I was going to buy my friend’s old Mac instead. The resolution on the Dell laptop’s screen wasn’t as good as I was hoping and the exterior was flimsy.
Well, once you buy something off their website, you cannot return it without paying at least a 10 percent return fee. So, if you buy a $ 1,000 laptop, expect to pay at least $ 100 to return it. I refused to pay the return fee, so after talking to customer service for almost an hour, they offered to let me keep the laptop with a $ 300 refund. I ended up not taking the refund and just selling the laptop to a friend and getting the Mac I wanted.
This is from a person who has owned three Dell PCs, one of which is still going (slowly) after 7 years. The product is just not the same quality it used to be and the customer service is awful. If you have to buy a Dell, try to negotiate a steep discount.

Unfortunately there isn’t a way to give them no stars.

I bought a Dell dual monitor stand for my Dell monitors since they don’t use VESA standard mounting brackets like 99.9% of the computer industry.
The problem is their chat service told me that the stand would work with the Dell monitors I have. WRONG! They don’t!
I spent 2 ½ hours trying to get a resolution. During this time I talked to 6 different customer service people and finally demanded to have a Return Authorization to send the piece of crap back to them.
The customer service is in India, which isn’t bad, but when you have a bad company training customer service people, you end up with poor customer service. Keep in mind I was disconnected 3 times (I was pissed off and wanted a resolution so I kept calling back).
Michael Dell needs to sell all of his remaining stock in the company and start another computer company from scratch.
I will never, ever buy a Dell product. EVER!!!

Love Dell. Every five years I order two computers from them, usually on sale. Two to three days later they arrive. And like the Energizer Bunny, they just keep on keepin’ on. Family get the old ones and we get the new ones.
Ordering takes about five minutes. Email confirmation through out the process is instantaneous. In 15 years I have yet to have a bad experience. You can get cheaper, but you can’t get better.

I called Dell after receiving my second notice that my part order had been delayed. The order was placed on July 30 and was scheduled to arrived within 7 days. The first delay notice I received said the order would not be received until August 9. That was not too long of a delay, so I didn’t worry about. Today, August 7, I received another delay notification. It said I would not be receiving the part until August 14.
The first call was connected to someone in India who advised me to just wait it out. She couldn’t understand what I was telling her. I don’t think she was reading the account notes properly, as she just kept telling me the part would be there on August 14. I asked to speak to her supervisor and she kept refusing, giving me the reason that her supervisor would just tell me the same thing. So then I asked to speak to her supervisor’s manager. That got me put on hold and transferred for the first time.
I was transferred to another department, also in India. The woman I spoke with told me she could not help me and that she would have to transfer me to the Modification Department. She assured me the modification department could figure out what I needed. So I was transferred to the Philippines.
I spoke with Mario in the Philippines. He didn’t listen to me for the first two minutes. Then he said he thought I was having a billing issue. WHAT? No, that is not what I said. So once we were finally on the same page, Mario told me that the part I ordered was DEACTIVATED in the system. He said I needed to cancel the order and that I needed to talk to Sales or Customer Service because he could not help me. After asking for HIS supervisor twice (the first time he came back and tried to talk me out of it), I had to reassure him I was not complaining about him personally but that I needed someone to take ownership of my issue. He finally transferred me to his supervisor.
I spoke with Edwin, a supervisor in the Modification Department. After fully listening to my issue, he told me he was going to transfer me to Sales — Parts Department. He assured me they could help me.
I was transferred to Anand Sadasivan, presumably back in India. He listened to my issue and was able to find me a replacement part at a higher price. I complained about the increase in price since I would have never known my order was canceled, had spent in excess of ONE HOUR on the phone and I was still without my part. He said he would talk to the manager about a price match. After several minutes, he came back; He got me my price match and a waived shipping fee. I am set to receive my part on August 13, fingers crossed. I received an email from Anand with his direct line, should I have anymore problems.
The ONE STAR on this review is solely for Anand’s helpfulness. Oh, and I guess Edwin deserves some credit for knowing where to send me.
A customer should never have to talk to FIVE people to get an order issue resolved. This whole issue would never have happened if they had not sold a part that no longer existed in their inventory.
NOTE TO DELL: I have two of your laptops here. I am sprucing up the older one (two and a half years old) because it is consistent. The newer one (less than six months old) is a piece of junk that I am sure I will need to replace soon. Will I order another Dell? Maybe. Will I tell everyone I know about the lack of customer service I have received from Dell? Yes. And Unilocal is just the beginning.

Never buy a Dell. It will save you time, frustration and money. Bill P is either an employee, paid by them or has not had to deal with their tech support. Otherwise he would change his rating.
Bought a Dell less than 60 days ago with the intent to use it for school. Class is coming up in two days and I need to use the webcam to skype into class. I’ve been trying to get it to work for over a week and after 4 painful chat sessions, 5 phone calls (they hung up on me twice — and DON’T expect the call back they claim to make) and 90 minutes of two technicians following the trouble shooting methods I’d already done I still don’t have resolution. I have next day business support and they’ve already passed that deadline and commitment.
We need to file a class action lawsuit against them for their false advertisement of an award winning customer service. It’s HORRIBLE. Be prepared to spend hours waiting for someone who doesn’t speak English, multiple transfers and they still don’t know how to troubleshoot problems without reading the manual (while you’re on the phone). And do NOT pay them an extra dime. File a BBB complaint.
I used to like Dell, but in the past six years their performance has gone down the tubes with their useless India customer and technical support. Never again. I am shooting for a full refund and I’ll buy a Mac.

Dell is a declining company, especially with their sales and customer service. It’s all outsourced now unless you’ve whined enough to gain the attention of upper support staff. When calling to place an order or tech support, I’ve been passed around and dropped from the call or placed on hold so often now that the prospect of calling Dell carries daunting implications. Maybe that’s how Dell wants to discourage phone services.
Bottom line is, buy from someone else who will support your PC needs. These days, unless you’re building your own PC, buying from a company means more than just acquiring their hardware — support and warranty is part of what you’re paying.
