Run, do not walk, away. Bought a notebook. Would not load Windows updates. Returned same afternoon. They would not replace, I was supposed to leave it for service. The day I purchased, are you kidding. I insisted on a replacement or a refund. I was refused. When I told them that I would dispute the charge to my card, they relented and found a replacement. The replacement would not allow any printer installations. I ended up having to reinstall Windows myself. Worst part is that they acted like I was a problem. If you are going to sell a product, make sure that it works. A lot of folks don’t know how to reinstall an operating system.

Went in to get Docking station for Dell Notebook, Customer service Guy1 hands me one that will work on my NB, with price tag on docking station. Customer Service Guy 2 helps me verify that it will work on my notebook on their bench, using this new docking station. All is good and 2^nd guy says, hey this thing is priced wrong. He shows 1^st Customer Sales guy that gave me dock station and he said yes it is priced wrong, takes the sticker off the docking station and says sorry sir that is the wrong price for that one, you have to get this other docking station for that price. I said, well i want this one, that i just verified works, at the price that is on the label you just took off. He said NO I cant do that. I said you will NOT honor that price that you have on this docking station, he said NO, you called and asked about this other docking station and this is not the one. I said I never have called you or talked to you before what are you talking about. He said sorry, we are fixing the pricing issue right now, and that is not the price for that one, have a nice day. Really this is customer service here? Owner needs to get rid of this guy, or have him re-​do his customer service training again, he is not representing Discount Electronics at all, this is the 1^st time in this location and have never had any issues at any of the other Locations.

I dropped my iPad, and upon the recommendation of a co-​worker I took it to Discount Electronics for a replacement of the digitizer (touch screen). They said there was a $ 50 deposit, and after the technician checks it out they will contact me with the final price — probably $ 100. A few days later I was contacted, and the tech confirmed that all I needed was a new screen — would I like him to proceed. Yep — authorized!
«It will be ready in about a week.»
Two weeks later I’m contacted that it is ready.
I go in to pick it up, and the edge of the screen is now white — it was black when I took it in. I explain to the guy at the counter that it wasn’t correct… I wanted a black screen like it had when I brought it in. He checks the computer repair log.
«It doesn’t say you wanted it to be black.»
«Well, it doesn’t say I wanted it to be white. I didn’t specify color — I didn’t think I needed to. I just asked for it to be repaired» I say.
«Well, you didn’t say you wanted it to stay the same color. Maybe they had trouble getting a black screen»
«Yeah, I get that I didn’t specify it needed to stay black, but I didn’t say I wanted it pink, either. Look, I’m not trying to be a jerk, its just that I wanted the screen replaced with the same thing. If the tech couldn’t get a black screen he should have said that he could only get a white one and give me the choice.»
Guy gets the manager, manager laments that if he replaces the screen then he is «out» the white screen. I let him know I appreciate that, but the tech ordered and installed the wrong screen, and it isn’t really my problem that he will be unable to use this screen.
He lets me know it will be ready in a week.
Two weeks later I’m contacted that it is ready again (sense a theme?).
I go in, black screen, I pay, I leave. After I charge it, and I start using it again I find a problem with the screen «clicking» near the home button. I look at it a bit more, and I notice that the screen all along one side isn’t fully affixed to the iPad. I gently put my thumbnail under the screen and the whole thing starts lifting out. Back to the store I go.
«Hi. It doesn’t look like the tape or adhesive that was used to affix the screen is holding. Can you fix that?»
«What did you do to it?»
That is when I had my WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM moment. The muscles on the back of my neck tensed up, and I wanted to yell, but you don’t get help that way…
«Nothing — just noticed it was coming up.»
They take it in the back. When it comes back the screen is better.
«Your iPad case is all beat up, and that screen will never fit in it without it coming up. You need to put it in a case.»
I thank them.
I leave.
I wait a month to do a Unilocal review.
Look, guys… the case does have some minor dings. It is 4 years old, but the glass clearly rests inside the aluminum frame. When you screwed up the screen the first time you threw a BS answer that «I didn’t specify I wanted it black». That’s a garbage response from SED (employee). Manager tried to make it right. I’m good with that. Your repair times took 2x as long as you said they would. You try to blame the customer for a poor repair by asking «what did you do» that caused the screen to lift.
Never, ever will my shadow darken their doorway again, and I will relate this story of poor customer service to my friends.

My mother recently took her lap top in to their round rock location. After paying $ 50.00 for a diagnostics, they told her it has a virus & it would cost her another $ 150.00 to fix it. My husband looked at it & it did not have a virus. In fact there was nothing wrong with the computer at all. It was just user error.

I recently brought in my laptop computer as the screen was blank. When I was telling Richard about what was showing on the screen he knew exactly what to do… take out the battery, put it back in, and rebooted it. Guess what? Yes it worked and I was not charged a dime. Thank you Discount Electronics.

These guys had my notebook for more than 6 weeks on a simple DC jack repair. I got no updates, follow through on what took so long for the repair. I stopped in to the store to ask the manager what was taking so long, he promised to call me back that evening after looking into the problem, I never got a call from him. When the repair was finally completed, these guys never charged the computer to see if the repair was good. I asked «how do you know the repair is good if you didn’t check your work?» The repairman told me to «bring it back if it didn’t work.»
YEA RIGHT, I’m gonna let you waste MORE of my time and energy, NO WAY.
Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

Given, the programs I run use less than ¼ G of ram. Well, all was well until I’m playing my first of 3 shows in a day and the laptop crashes. After a reboot, I check the task manager, and with no programs running, the usage was at 100%. I had to cancel in the middle of my first gig and I lost that pay. I called tech support, and they told me to go to the round rock location since it was closest to my next gig. I get to the round round rock store, and first, they tell me it’s going to be 24 hours. I explain my situation. Then they say they can’t help me at all and send me 17 minutes back down to the Anderson mill location. I was livid at this point, but remained calm. I get to Anderson mill and the tech opens my pc up to find that the reason for the crash was that it got stuck in an update while I was trying to run my programs and used up all the ram and crashed. This shouldn’t have happened, and upon further examination he found that only 2gb of ram had been installed when it was advertised as 4gb. He quickly replaced the ram and with minutes left, I rushed out and made my 2^nd gig. After the tech fixed it, it ran great for the next two shows that day. While I’m happy that they fixed it, I’m mostly unhappy with this experience. This company’s error caused me to lose a lot of money, time, and even lunch (no time to eat inbetween shows because I was rushing back and forth across town to their different locations). So after getting the computer back the second time the computer still would not work and gave us hard drive errors (they installed a new one). And after the terrible treatment we received we called corporate and they suggested we take it to the north austin location. And after speaking with the manager there we decided to give it one last try. This location confirmed that the hard drive that was installed was faulty and they replaced it and did all repairs for free. I feel there is nothing wrong with this company as a whole after speaking with so many people. It is apparent that this location needs to be worked on to say the least. But do not let it reflect badly on the rest of the stores. The north austin location is very educated and respectful.

I was referred to this place as the place to go that’s fast, experienced, and won’t charge you for what you don’t need! Well that is exactly what they did for me. I took my computer to be looked at and the guy spent 15 minutes with my computer. He ran a few tests and changed some settings and said I didn’t need to replace my hardware. I walked out spending $ 0!!! I was expecting to spend $$$ and he said that wasn’t necessary. I will definitely spread the word and take my computer only there going forward! Thank you for the fast and friendly help!

Brought my computer in on a Monday to get a diagnostic test and transfer data from my hard drive and I have to say Juan Morales was quick to get to my computer. Lelia, Tim, and Jordan were each extremely helpful in keeping my up to date on the status of my repair. I’d recommend this specific Discount Electronics and Juan to anyone that has an issue with their computer.

I took my computer in because my children knocked it off the table and it would not turn on. I was told it had a fried motherboard. $ 550 later, I get my computer back. There is a screw missing the keyboard is not seated and their is a windows activation code error. I took into the store. I was told the screw was missing when I brought it in. That they did not touch the hard drive so they did not cause the error. Oh, and that they fixed the keyboard. Just so you know, no they did not. I will never go in that store again and will advise against my friends going there.
However, I did research and the activation code is because the motherboard was replaced and windows needed to know the software was not being installed on a new computer but that there had been a hardware update.
Worst customer service I have had in person in over ten years.

This seemed like a nice place to get computer stuff and electronics but it had a hidden agenda kind of like Obama when they made the sale
The hidden agenda is when you order something on line or even buy something from the store there is no refund when they ship or sell you the wrong part and they will only offer you a store credit for that problem
Tried to return it to the store and they would not take it back and said I would have to go to another store and how they do not give refunds and only a credit to purchase something else from the store just a bunch of pass the buck stuff is all I saw
I will no long do any business with them what so ever being as they think that is a good policy to have and they seem to follow in Obama’s footsteps for ripping people off big time then acting like that was someone elses fault and as if they have no liability at all for that
Sorry Discount being as I was getting ready to upgrade all of my computers and already looking at new computers at your store you just told me, Hey we will rip you off big time if you shop here so come on in and we will rip you off good and when you want a refund for getting ripped off of course we will tell you to go to hell as usual as per our policy of no refunds
I sure hope the $ 80 or so they stole from me was worth it to them as they just lost $ 2000 or more in sales as I will never do business with them again unless they do buy that wrong part they sent me back
As far as getting a credit to buy other things, Sorry I do not play games with liars cheats and thieves like discount electronics anymore unless I see the cash in my hand they are attempting to steal from me then all I view them as is liars cheats and thieves like most all politicians
On the other hand I do have legal recourse and will consider taking them to court to collect that money along with lawyers fees but to have to do that just to return an $ 80 item would tell me discount electronics is not a good place to shop anyway and you should now know that also
Hope this is helpful to anyone who thinks they might get a good deal there to know if you shop there then there are no returns and your stuck with what ever you buy and your out of money even if it was them that sold you the wrong part or one that does not even work
My professional advice is do not shop there at all until they resolve this issue of ripping consumers off or you will lose money and get ripped off in the same way I did

IF you need a cable or ethernet chord cheap this place may have it. Just don’t talk to the staff outside of paying, they wont notice your there anyway.

I have found Discount Electronics Round Rock to be both helpful and affordable every time I go there. I’m no computer wizz but they always seem to be able to help me find what I need. I am always happy to refer customers to them and I have never got bad feedback from doing so. Thanks!

I have heard a lot of good things about this company, and a few no so great things. However, I NEEDED a computer ASAP as my laptop went bonkers right as my classes started for college. I went in just to get a cheap-​o desk top until I could afford a better lap top (or get repairs). Ended up getting a pretty good deal on a decent desk top and went that route. Hubby wanted me to add on a better graphic card, so I got one. (they even installed it for me, no charge) A short time later, today actually, my computer will not turn on. We pack it all up and shoot on down to RR to get it checked out. Awesome for being open on a Sunday! Leila helped us out, and we quickly discovered it was the power source that went out. Leila, switched it out for us, and we were quickly on our way. It was all covered under our warranty so no out-​of-​pocket cost to us :-). Now I can finish my school work tonight.
Cool thing: On a visit a few months ago, (getting parts or my hubbys desktop) I inquired if they had any chargers for the Nintendo DSi, and yup, they did. Brand new, paid $ 8. They have all kinds of neat little odds and ends, not just computers.

Yes, I still have a wired modem. It works for me. Well, until last week. ATT tech support tells me my modem is broken. Ok, I’ll get new one. It takes a week and $ 13 shipping from them, so I go over to Discount on Friday afternoon to buy one. I tell the guy «I need a modem». He sells me a router. Which, I honestly don’t know is not the same thing. I try to hook it up. Doesn’t wk. Call ATT back on Saturday. They tell me it’s the wrong thing.
Was over near the Anderson Discount on Tuesday, so I stop in to exchange it. They tell me I have to go back to Round Rock. Ok, I drive over there. The clerk’s unable to help me. The manager was due in soon, so I did other stuff and came back a second time. I explain to Lauren, the manager, that I asked for a modem and was sold a router. She blamed me that I had probably asked for the wrong thing.
She said I had waited too long to exchange it. 3 days is TOO LONG? She told me I should have returned it the same day I bought it. WTF? I just want to exchange it for a MODEM. They don’t sell modems. She will only offer me store credit. No, I want a refund cuz you guys sold me the wrong thing.
BUT YOU DON’T SELL WHAT I NEED TO FIX MY PROBLEM! Store credit is useless. I repeat my request for a refund and she once again offers me store credit. I ask to speak to someone above her in the food chain. She gives me his email address, which is freaking useless since my computer doesn’t work. (No, I don’t have an Iphone)
I bought two computers from the Anderson location and find them to be helpful and great at customer service. I called them and they fixed the situation right away. I got a refund and apology for my run around. This review is only for the Round Rock location. I wasted half my day off jacking around with what should have been a simple solution.

Much better than Fry’s if you need a quick cable, adapter, or computer part.
Brands are generic or off-​brand, but hey, we didn’t want to wait for amazon. We’ve got a computer to build! Ample parking, polite staff.

This place could not be any better if you are looking for that elusive cable, adapter, or other odds and ends. Are you looking for a mouse, keyboard, or other nit picky device? This is the place to go get the stuff without having to pay bigger retail prices.
They also have computer monitors, computer guts, speakers, laptop, and electronic accessories a blow your mind. I have only use this place to find small but unusual things like adapters, which is perfect for. The shop is small but it is pretty well organized and open fairly late. However I knock it down a couple of stars because the customer service is usually pretty shoddy. Also there are some things that you can get at better prices online, so do your research. All in all this place is great as long as you know what you need a head of time. Do not rely on the knowledge of the staff.

Discount? Same price as Amazon and the «associate» gave me a smarmy little comment about «you don’t have to pay shipping». Ever heard of Amazon Prime??? When I asked if my product was new, like I would get with Amazon, she stared at it and said «it doesn’t look used, but we mark everything used» Way to know your product and business. When I asked about warranty she told me 90 days, but after she rung it up (I know, why why why did I even purchase) she told me «oh, this is store credit, not refund»
Craptastic attitude, no idea about product or policy — METHINKS NOT
I like to support local business, but this one just crossed off the list.

The staff here knows the parts and the Dell Systems that they mainly sell. If you have a question or concern, come here and see if they can help you out.
More times than not, they always have competitive prices… where else can you get thermal paste for $ 1? Laptop fans for around $ 12? Laptop System-​boards for $ 80?
Fry’s won’t get that for you, but Discount Electronics can.
