Tam’s passion is in finding the fastest, most efficient, cost effective solutions for Santra Rosa Mac users. With 18 years as a mac tech he has the vast experience & technical expertise to tailor each service to a client’s preferences & needs. Serving the Santa Rosa Apple Mac community for 15 years, Tam founded Macadvantage in 1997, the year Steve Jobs returned to Apple. Tam was recognized by Apple in 2007 for being the top Apple Agent in Northern California, & one of the top seven worldwide.

Tam’s background is in photography, drawing & design. With his natural aptitude for technology & love of arts, he effortlessly merged the two & was quickly sought out by other photographers & artists to solve complex font, design and photo issues in Adobe CS, Quark… Out of the joy he derived from solving issues for others, plus enthusiasm that Steve Jobs was back, MacAdvantage was born.

Tam also enjoys hiking, biking, flying small aircraft, meditating, creating stop motion video & other art.

I’ve moved to Sonoma County within the last two years. I have always taken my MAC’s for upgrades to either Apple, done it myself, or used a variety of MAC repair shops in other areas where I have lived throughout the US. My experiences have always been great, but the MAC Advantage stands out — skilled, timely, friendly, cost competitive (well you kind of expect that) — but in this case there was just a great Karma, and Feng Shui that characterizes this business. I’m old enough and old fashioned enough to be taken aback when pulling up in front of a business that is truly «home based» — yes, just a regular suburban house. Don’t let that put anyone off using these guys — just the best. Thanks Tam, you are a special guy

In the many, many years that I’ve been a Mac user (since the 512), with the many, many Macs I’ve owned, and in the many states in which I’ve used them, I’ve never had a better service experience than I just had with Mac Advantage. It’s not that the others were bad — they were not. It’s that Mac Advantage is that much better. Tam sets a very high bar and then goes over it with room to spare.
This place is about the customer as well as the computer — they clearly understand the relationship between the two and know the angst that can occur when things go wrong. This was «personal service» at its best. From the first phone call, to a follow up call, I dealt with people who clearly cared that I had a good experience. And, I did.
The repair was done promptly and professionally. Tam found and fixed another problem — one that had shown up a year ago and not been replicated. He didn’t charge me for that repair.
They are closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Friday morning I noticed a software issue, unrelated to the repair. I called and left a message on their machine asking for a call back on Monday. Within an hour, on his day off, Tam called and helped me resolve the issue.
You might think that you’d have to pay a premium to get this kind of service, but you don’t. Tam’s rates are the most reasonable I’ve seen.
I chose Mac Advantage after reading Unilocal reviews. They were so good I wasn’t sure whether I should believe them. I do now. You should too. Mac Advantage is the real deal.

They are very nice to work with! I have had my macbook fixed there twice and they really are the nicest people. I was given a quote at the apple store, and they were able to charge half that amount. Plus they also found some other problems and fixed those that the apple store hadn’t found. I really like that it’s operating out of a house. Makes it feel very authentic, and they employ SSU students too!

My mac book air crashed on me and wouldn’t work so I took it to the Apple Store where they told me that I had a damaged logic board that would take $ 900 to fix. Somehow an angel walked into my life named Alejandra and told me to bring it into Mac Advantage where she works. My computer wasn’t at the store longer than 24 hours and they had already fixed it for almost nothing!!! It turns out that all it had was a little bit of liquid damage with build up corrosion and the logic board was fine after all!!! I will never trust the Apple Store again for any of my Mac needs I will only come to Mac Advantage. Thanks again guys! You are real life Heroes!!! Thanks times a billion!!!

Tam and crew are the best! My MacBook has been getting slower and slower and had recently been doing things it shouldn’t, and not doing the things I asked it to do. Went to the Apple Store and they plugged their USB diagnostic tool into it and said things seemed ok. Decided on The Mac Advantage after reading some Google reviews. I mean, if Pixar Studios loves this guy he must have something going for him.
Located in a residential area of Rhonert Park means parking right in front of the business. Took in my puter Friday at noon, they checked it in, Tam ran a quick diagnostic that showed the hard drive was failing. He quoted me what I considered a very reasonable price to replace with a new drive and said it would be done by Thursday at the latest. The crew said to call on Tuesday to check on the progress, but Tam called Monday at noon to let me know it was done. Picked it up for the quoted price and brought it home. This thing is smoking fast now and it took the equivalent of one business day. Hopefully I’ll never need service again, but if I do it’s going to The Mac Advantage.

Their customer service is exceptional. Beyond exceptional. Tam fixed an «ancient» iMac that we have, that years later is still running just fine. At that time, they were courteous, efficient, and decently priced.
Recently, our two iPods both went haywire, and Tam spent a significant amount of time diagnosing the problem for us. Turns out, not surprisingly, he was able to offer the correct fix for our devices where Applecare fell short. Way short. I cannot recommend these folks enough.

Tam was great to work with. He communicated well and explained my computer issues throughout the entire process of having it fixed. I had lost all of my photos when my HD crashed on vacation. Thankfully, he was able to get most of them back in a few days. He also replaced my HD and restored my computer for a very reasonable fee. After calling around to several other recovery services, Tam was above and beyond the best. I am glad I called him and would recommend his recovery services.

Technicians here get it and know what to do to get your mac back up and running. However, that does not translate to the folks that you meet at the front desk — the service desk got the hard drive type and price wrong, added an hour for data recovery that was not needed and did not select the correct OSX for the tech to install — a second call to the technician resolved the hard drive and labor costs but still missed on the OSX requested.
Just need better communications skills on the front desk to ensure they get the very capable techs to get the job done right the first time. Still recommend them — just make sure you communicate directly with the techs before you proceed with the work.

Every once in a while a business comes along that restores your faith in people and society… This is one such business. Tam has created a bonefide apple eutopia in the sublime ether of suburban twilight. When I was going to just go buy a new mac (like I do every 3 years) Mac Advantage turned my slow and bloated 2011 iMac into a formidable heavy use task machine that can handle 2015 software suites and firmware. Bravo Tam… you are a competent professional, maestro and pentacle of good energy in the community! If you rely on your apple for your business and need it repaired or updated asap, call these guys without hesitation! You can trust them with your machine. I am back to work with all my data and an upgraded solid state HD. My machine works better then it did when I bought it. Thank you Tam!

Tam is amazing. I late afternoon on a Friday explaining how my LCD had possibly gone out on my 5 year old macbook. They told me to bring in my laptop and they would take a look. I called on Monday and was informed I had liquid damage on my logic board. I was given different options and Tam did everything he could to calm my breakdown. After finding a new laptop, Tam switched the logic boards and rams and by computer was fixed. Best service by far with help on my laptop. I will definitely return if something happens in the future.

I stopped in yesterday for some advice regarding my Macbook Pro. As I was checking in and giving them my contact information, they performed some quick diagnostics then and there and told me what was wrong. They gave me clear advice regarding the best course of action, and provided me with some documentation from Apple about the history of the known issue with this model. And they recommended against fixing it! Too costly of a repair for such an old computer.
All of this at no cost! I was in and out within 5 minutes with all the information I needed to decide what to do going forward, and though they didn’t make any money off of me, they were extremely helpful and gracious. I’ll definitely be back when I need repairs!
