Amazing! Everything about this place screams old school class. The French onion soup… best I’ve ever had! The group I was with ordered a lot of different things from salmon to filet, everything was cooked to perfection and tasted great! I would have no reservations about recommending this spot to others, I can’t wait to go back myself! Well done!

Absolutely delicious! Went for the first time last Saturday night, our table wasn’t ready so we had drinks and an appetizer in the bar. Once we were seated our waitress came over fast and got our drink orders and our dinner orders. Our table ordered Lamb chops, scallops, steak and stuffed shrimp. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious. I will make it a habit to go back a few times a year!

Came in after a meeting downtown. Just wanted their yummy fish n chips so I sat in the Cabbin Kruger area in back. Had Arnold Palmer to drink. My meal came in a reasonable time. Fish was so good, tinder and not greasy at all. Fries were crisp and generous. I don’t like the Cole slaw… it had horseradish in it. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Just a nice place to get a nice lunch without dropping g a ton of $$. Meal was around $ 10.00 for 3 nice size pieces of Icelandic cod.

Every couple years we «land» here for our wedding anniversary… and it’s always an excellent experience. Yesterday was no exception; our server Erika was incredible, and as always, the food of the best quality for the price. Had a wonderful bottle of Merlot(Erika’s recommendation); the evening could not have been better. Kudos again to the Chop House for making our evening a pleasure!

My family has come here for a long time. The major plus is the consistency. The food is great — particularly for Rochester and the service is very personable. You always feel like you’re coming into your neighborhood regular spot, regardless if you’re here weekly or once every year or so. The lamb here is a particular favorite of mine — but the major tip for food is get the Asiago potatoes(not on the menu but they’ll serve them to you as a side). These are absolutely incredible — every time we come for dinner, this is what I am looking most forward to.

We had dinner here on 3÷21÷16 and not only was the service fantastic but the food was absolutely delicious. We had the calamari appetizer and our entrees were the crab cakes and the Delmonico. Everything tasted amazing and our waitress, Jackie, was friendly and provided exceptional service!

We like the chophouse. It’s not imaginative nor is it really outstanding, just reliably good food in an atmosphere that feels like a night out. You can choose to stay in the front of the house for casual dining or you can be seated in the dining room for a more formal, old time dining out experience. The leather banquettes and the dim lighting, table candles and dark wood paneling remind me of restaurants my parents used to like in the 70’s – but back then the place would have been full of cigar smoke. The prices are a bit high for what you get. Rochester really needs a few more good restaurants at reasonable prices, but like I said, if you want lighter fare, eat up in the front and listen to the piano player. Very enjoyable. Good service. Ordinary, good food.

The food is almost worth the substantial price you will pay, expertly prepared and superbly curated by wait staff. The steaks are truly excellent(excalibur and zip sauce preparations were both delicious) and arrive perfectly done, as ordered. The décor could definitely use improvement to match its self-estimation in price(vinyl upholstery, gloomy lighting, weird broken-up floor plan). With a little capital investment, could be top drawer.

The Rochester Chop House never disappoints. The appetizers — great. The drink/cocktail choices– great. The mains are always delicious. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Insanely over priced, and over-hyped, in my opinion. I got soup, salad, and water. My date, steak &2 beers, and our bill was $ 90! They’re pushing Delmonico steaks for $ 45. For that price, you’d think you’d be biting into heaven. Although his steak was cooked to the correct doneness(Medium — Rare) it was severely charred on the outside, which totally ruined the flavor.(–1) My $ 9 soup was salty as all h3ll, and my $ 14 salad edible, but not memorable.(–1) the place was so loud too that I could barely hear the couple sitting across from me(–1) The pianist, however, rocked!(+1) At least his music, when played, drowned out some of the people around me. Won’t be visiting this joint again.

One of my faves. Can’t go wrong here. I’ve had everything from the filet to the fish. Yummm! The libations are really good here as well.

5 stars, you say? «Should I try it?», you ask yourself. Read on to find out, but the Exec summary is this: atmosphere+service quality+food quality add up to a really enjoyable dining experience. Really 4.5 stars for me, but I am rounding up because they are consistent! This is a great restaurant choice for special occasions and(in my case) high value customers. I have dined here about a 15 times, and have learned that I can count on the Chop House for a great experience! Décor: The restaurant has a cozy and usually quiet atmosphere, and there is often a piano player in the evenings. Lighting is low to moderate. Service has been very consistent through lunches and dinners. Overall I would rate the dinner service very high, among the highest in the area. Lunch service is slightly lower, but still excellent. The wine list is excellent, with choices from such vineyards as Silver Oak and Tignanello. As usual, markups on wine are substantial, so expect to pay accordingly. Along with the food service, the wine service is excellent, with red wines being decanted while the first glasses are being drank. It is unfortunate that more restaurants don’t do this. The menu does rotate, based on serving fresh seafood and steaks. I have had lamb chops, a Kobe ribeye, filets, red snapper, char, and a number of other entrees. Each was prepared extremely well This is not a restaurant that serves hipster food or has an inventive menu. But it is expensive, if that makes you feel better. Dinner for two should be around $ 120 or so. The steaks are really tasty, and priced a bit lower than the major steak houses. .

First off, let me start of by saying the quality of their steaks are fantastic and for as many as they cook each night you would think they could be able to get the temperature correct. Not a chance, granted they were busy however same amount of tables as always which should mean they can handle their reputation. Anyways 2 steak orders had to be returned from our party because they were over cooked which in turn resulted in a disruptive and fragmented dining experience for our table. The meals finally returned 15 minutes after everyone else had already been served and moreover they forgot to provide utensils for one of the patrons. In the meantime drinks went dry and our server had to be flagged down to order new drinks. This truly is unacceptable service for this perceived tier of restaurant. Ideally, the dining experience should be flawless with all expectations handled by staff prior to the patron’s request and if by chance a mishap should occur they should make good to preserve their reputation. Bottom line, menu is overpriced and service/kitchen was adequate at best. At this price point, there are better places around the Detroit Metro area.

Went for our anniversary, our reservation was for 7pm. We were seated almost an hour later. We were forced to wait in the cramped bar in the front. We got mussels for an appetizer which were really good. Main course was a the stuffed filet for me and ribeye for my husband. My food was good although lukewarm. Husbands steak was extremely thin and overcooked. His also came with creamed spinach that looked like it was sitting around for an hour. Service was just ok. Not a great experience and we have already decided that with all the other restaurants in the area we will not be back.

I came here on a fancy date with my girlfriend about a month ago. She is a big fan of Kruse and Muer, so I thought we’d give this place a try since it’s owned by the same people. To say the least, I was quite disappointed in the results given the price we paid. She ordered her steak medium well, and there was absolutely no pink and it was quite charred on the outside. I ordered mine medium and it came out somewhere between rare and medium rare. The sides didn’t seem to be fresh out of the kitchen as if they had been sitting for a while. The service and atmosphere was good, but for the price, It did not live up to my expectations. It could have very well been a new chef, new server, etc, so I have to give the place the benefit of the doubt. I personally wanted to complain during the meal, but didn’t want to ruin the date by making more of a fun. Anyways, we both left disappointed, I was $ 150 poorer, and we do not plan on returning.

My wife enjoyed our 35th wedding anniversary here today. We were served by Megan(Meg’s). She did a great job! This is an old style steak house, very nice. There are caricatures posted on the walls, we thought they might be famous people. Megan explained they were just customers that posed for an artist. Pretty Cool, though. We started with an appetizer of mushrooms stuffed with shrimp, lobster and crab, very good. I ordered a 16 oz Kobe beef rib steak(it was on special) with smashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I added a house salad with honey/tarragon dressing. The steak was cooked medium as I ordered, excellant steak. I also had coffee which was good. My wife ordered a 9 oz filet, medium well, hash browns with blue cheese and corn with kale. It was all outstanding. She added a Martha’s Vineyard salad, which she enjoyed. She also had a glass of merlot, which was good. For dessert it was parfait of pistachio gelato. It was our first visit, but it won’t be our last!

I was in town for a wedding for the weekend. After walking through the quaint downtown area of Rochester we saw the Chop House. Once you walk inside you are transported to a traditional city steakhouse. Large leather booths, characteurs along the walls, and some taxidermy too. The food was delicious. The James Beard NE claw chowder had the title for good reason. The fried calamari was delicate and flavorful. And the stuffed portabello caps with cheese were outstanding. We split the twin 4oz filets topped with Alaskan King Crab were the steak house staple I wanted. Tender filet, good amount and quality crab was the perfect entrée. In addition, the strawberry and rhubarb cobbler served with ice cream was the perfect combination of sweet, tart and tasty. This all went down nicely with the Padrillos Malbec, smooth yet heavy for a Malbec and able to stand with the hearty meal. Our server, Jeremy, was wonderful as well. He was polite and personable with knowledge of the entire menu. He had knowledge of the local area too. He suggested to us the Arts, Beats, and Eats festival in Royal Oaks. Just a 25 minute ride later we capped off the weekend with Young the Giant concert. Great establishment with excellent food and a welcoming staff. Enjoy!

I went here on a Sunday with my wife, my mom, and my dad to celebrate my wife’s recent promotion and my new job. This is a tradition that we have in my family-whenever I get promoted or get a new job, we go to Rochester Chop House for the Excalibur Steak. My dad was nice enough to pick up the bill, so I’m not sure what the total was, but this place is definitely expensive. I believe my Ribeye steak was $ 30. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and friendly, but he was an odd duck. When we were seated we watched a food-runner bring food for the table behind my parents, then our waiter came over to our table to introduce himself and take our drink orders. After he wrote the drink orders down he served the other table their food that was likely lukewarm at best. We were appalled at this and it was easy to tell that the people at the other table were confused as to why their food was sitting there getting cold in the middle of the dining room. We placed our orders and soon our food came and once again we watched food sitting in the middle of the dining room getting cold. I was pretty close to serving the food myself. Finally our server served our food, the steak was just a little above lukewarm, but the vegetables were still warm. The food was delicious and the steak was a perfect medium. The manager came over to ask us how things were going, we said things were fine, but he had come to us before we stared at our food getting cold in the middle of the dining room with our mouths watering. This just seems like poor management to me-get your wait staff in order and bring us some hot food for Christ’s sake. The food is expensive and we work hard for our money. Since the food was tasty, this place gets 3 stars instead of 2 stars. It’s a good thing I only get a new job or promotion about every two years. If we were regulars and we received this kind of treatment, I would probably have lost my mind. I came here once on St. Patrick’s Day several years ago and my buddy bought one of everything off the menu for everyone at the table. We were pumped to eat like kings, but the food was cold, which gave it a strange texture. That was extra terrible because it was seafood(lobster, clams, shrimp, and crab). Cold seafood is gross.

Good seafood in a mid to upscale environment. Staff was attentive and our waitress was especially entertaining. I had the Chilean Sea Bass, seared. It was a little pricey at $ 33 and change, but a nice portion and cooked perfectly. Lobster Mac n Cheese was a little bland, a lil salt helped. Side of veggies were not a go either. We ordered apple martinis and the what returned was pink. Apparently they add cranberry juice to their recipe. Very unexpected.

All around great experience. It was our first time and we went for my husband’s birthday. We went on a Sunday, I made reservations, but it wasn’t busy at all. Our waiter did a good job recommending an appetizer and wine. We got the calamari, and it was the best calamari we’ve had, we especially liked the sauce that came with it. Our steaks were cooked perfect and everything came out quick. They gave us a complimentary dessert that was the perfect size. We will definitely be going back.

Ate here back in the day when it was called Cooper’s Arms! Tasty food and good drink. Not much room, as tables are close together. Very few round tops to choose from. I have also attended specialty brunches i.e. Mother’s Day. Food is not on par with regular service.

Not very impressed so far. Stood in the isle while the hostess debated on which one of the open tables she wanted to seat us at then waited over 8 minutes to be treated by our server… he has one other table. Had high hoes for this place but it’s crashing and burning pretty quickly.

Went here for my wedding anniversary with my husband. The wait staff was very friendly and, really, some of the best steak I’ve ever had. That being said, the menu isn’t large. You’ll be very disappointed if you want something other than steak or seafood. But, why go to a steak house if you don’t want steak?

Awesome food and service. James is an awesome server., giving us great suggestions and the«low down» for our first visit! We both had filets. and both excellent and as we ordered with no grumbling about well done steaks, Our only complaint was the noise level and congestion. though not enough for me to reduce my rating

The Rochester Chop House has become one of my favorite«go to» restaurants over the years. Consistently great food and service along with fresh fish offerings is what you will find here. If your not looking for a full dinner /meal the try Cabin Cruisers which is their bar area at the front of the establishment facing Main Street. It has the ambiance of an East Coast raw bar– pub that offers fresh oysters, mussels, shrimp, etc. A great place to sit at the bar and sip a good cocktail or beer and enjoy a dozen or so of fresh oysters. I don’t give many places five stars but this place deserves this top rating.
