I wish I read these reviews prior to buying my Living Social coupon. Unfortunately, I purchased not 1 but 2 pairs of glasses from them. The first pair the lens were so bad that I could not see out of one of them. I returned the glasses only to be told that it was not the lens but the prescription. Had the prescription reviewed by the doctor — the prescription was correct — the glasses were wrong.
The glasses were not adjusted to fit my face. Found out later that they do not have a licensed optician on premises. If they did, they would have adjusted the glasses and the distortion would have been fixed. Not having a licensed optician is against the law in NYS.
The second pair of glasses promised in 7 days are not back yet and its been 10 business days. Not sure what the hold up is — as no one returned my phone calls.

I have been in this store 3 times in 3 days to buy glasses (you will see, I am very picky). The selection is VAST. All types and styles. Luckily, the very friendly women behind the counter helped me out. She gave me space to explore on my own but brought out a few pairs she thought I might like and gave suggestions about sizing, style and color.
She was very patient as I deliberated. She even offered to let me take pairs home to decide whether they were for me or not. What trust.
Some of the reviews below say that the lenses have to be cut off-​site which is true. BUT I was told it only takes a few days. The woman even offered to have my glasses shipped to my new address in California for no extra charge! She also assured me that if anything went wrong, which it wouldn’t, she would be there to right it.
Finally, I used the 250 $ off that you get when you check-​in on Unilocal; the glasses ended up STILL being more expensive than I was expecting (they have less expensive frames but I went with designer brand). That being said, I went to three different shops in the area, tried on so so many pairs, and came back to Pittsford Optical because they really did have the best selection.
So in conclusion, I have ordered glasses, I had a great experience and I will update my review once I receive this pair. I cannot wait to see, literally.

I had a great experience at Pittsford Optical. I had been to a couple other optical places in the Rochester area and was disgusted with the customer service and the lies. One day I happened into Pittsford Optical. I found the pair of glasses I loved, they ordered them in for me as I requested a new pair. I was heading out for vacation a couple days later and my glasses wouldn’t be ready because I asked for the new frame set. Heather gave me the on floor frames to use on vacation with my lenses until my new pair came in! NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE. I said I would just keep the floor pair and she said «absolutely not, you paid for a new pair, you will receive a new pair». So I went in, she changed over my lenses when I returned home.
As for price, I don’t know what everyone is complaining about, the prices here were the same as Lens Crafters with BETTER customer service. I will continue to go back to Pittsford Optical and I would recommend overlooking the bad reviews and try them out, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I am in complete awe as to how rudely we were treated. The sales person was extremely pushy and became insulted when we politely said no thank you and headed towards the door after she suggested frame diameter was in no way indicative of actual frame fit. As we proceeded to leave (and to our complete surprise) she exclaimed «Please don’t come back». No worries, we won’t.
This is the first time we have ever been asked not to return to a store, though after reading previous reviews this appears to be a common practice here. This along with their history of litigations is disturbing. It’s no wonder why the store was completely empty on a weekday evening. At this rate, this establishment will be closed within a year.

I called the store and a girl named Heather answered «claiming she is the owner» said that she does not care how her customers are treated/​started calling me names over the phone as I was trying to find out why my girlfriend was treated like garbage and disrespected. I could not believe that this store is in operation status. STAY AWAY!!! take your hard earned cash elsewhere… if you decide on this place You will be sorry as Heather is not a professional.

RUN FAST FROM THIS PLACE. I cannot make it any clearer. They use groupon to lure you in, quick talk you and scam you out of your money. No optician on site and inferior lenses. I swear they just order your glasses on line. Owner should be arrested!

Buyer beware!
I found Pittsford Optical on Living Social as they has their «coupon» for $ 250 off. When I first called, Heather, was extremely friendly and helpful. I ended up picking out a pair of sunglasses and with the coupon it seemed very reasonable (however, after checking prices at two other places, the price at Pittsford Optical was inflated). Heather said it was worth paying the extra money as if something happened the manufacturer would replace at no charge.
I was told the sunglasses would be early the following week but I didn’t hear back until the end of the week. I was told they were not done correctly. The night I picked up the glasses I was told to give them a try on a few sunny days and see what I think. Turns out the glasses were not done correctly (Heather had plenty of excuses for this as well).
When I went back to pick up my glasses for the second time — I questioned the hand written invoice I was provided as they didn’t include the total charge of the lenses AND UV (which was an additional $ 70). The handwritten receipt said the lenses were $ 70 (in reality they were 164 PLUS the 70) and the frames had the cost of the lenses and frames lumped together. When I questioned it, Heather went from being very friendly to very hostile. She wouldn’t answer my questions saying things like «Oh come on, it doesn’t matter», «are you serious?». The conversation ended very quickly once she started raising her voice to me saying «this is the reason you ALWAYS have problems. you have nothing but problems.».
Someone did come out of the back and Heather blocked the person telling them to just go back in the back.
All I can say is WOW. I wish I had read the Unilocal reviews prior to visiting as I would have gone somewhere else that didn’t use a scam coupon as a way to get business.

I purchased glasses 5 months ago. The right stem fell apart from the frame. When I went back to get this fixed, the women working told me it is not covered by the warranty. She suggested I glue this myself. I spent $ 228 after the groupon, this place has poor service. I do not suggest.

My husband purchased a pair of glasses using a groupon and we still paid an addtional $ 180.00. The glasses are terrible. They have to be fixed regularly. When he brought the broken glasses back to the store, the main salesperson, took one look at the glasses and said, «These are not our glasses» without even asking for his name or checking the records.

I purchased a $ 29 Groupon for non-​prescription sunglasses knowing that Pittsford Optical carry RayBans. I am very familiar with pricing for this brand and thought that the $ 150 value of the Groupon would get me a nice pair of glasses. Imagine my surprise (shock) when I discovered that their prices are more than double what RayBan charges on their site. A pair of sunglasses listed at $ 135 was $ 299 at Pittsford Optical. So much for the bargain! They offered to help me find something «more in my budget range» by increasing my Groupon «value» to $ 250 so that I could find frames and have my glasses custom made. Imagine — more money. The only reason they get one star is that they recommended I contact Groupon customer service if I wasn’t satisfied. Did just that and got my money refunded instantly. Groupon good. Pittsford Optical not.

Groupon offer is a scam. The retails are so inflated that the $ 250 doesn’t completely knock the price down to where they should be.
Great selection, staff is helpful, leave cases open for browsing without hounding.
Receipt provided for insurance submittal handwritten and prices were different than what was quoted at point of sale.
Something is going on here that just doesn’t seem right.

I also used the Groupon, and yes while $ 250 seems like a large credit, Pittsford Optical offers pricier designer options, so I did not expect the full cost to be covered. All told, I paid about the same as I usually do for designer glasses from my optician (Dr. Caito on Park Ave), who has a smaller but respectable designer collection.
PROS: Great selection, attentive staff (she even stayed past close to help me decide on the right glasses), and available extras (anti-​glare, sunglasses, thinner lenses, etc.).
CONS: Insurance reimbursement was tough! I have BC/​BS vision coverage, yet I had to pay the whole cost up front despite a $ 60 prescription credit from my plan. I had to call insurance when I had not received reimbursement months later, and found out Pittsford Optical cashed their check a month ago. My insurance rep called the store, and was told I must bring in my EOB (Explanation of Benefits) for the store to issue a check even though they had the $ from insurance already. It would be MUCH easier if Pittsford Optical refrained from billing the $ 60 and just awaited the insurance check, rather than making me jump through hoops (in fact, I would have waited to pick up my glasses until insurance paid, if that would make it easier for them).
Ultimately a good boutique for higher-​end designer glasses, but be aware you won’t be paying Lenscrafter prices. Also, be prepared to jump through some hoops to get reimbursed even if you have vision coverage and even after insurance pays them.

Called to ask about pricing for prescription lenses. The lady seemed annoyed by the phone call and didn’t seem interested in helping me. She came off very rude and condescending. She said they don’t give prices over the phone, and I’d have to come in to the store… yeah I think NOT! Unbelievable.

We bought the groupon for this place and their prices are exorbitant and they have really bad customer service. When the lens prescription was off they refused to honor a free replacement which is common among lens places. DO NOT GO THERE.
Send an email to Groupon and Living Social to let them know that this vendor is not worthy.

I had a horrible experience with them. I purchased the Groupon for my wife, and after several attempts by them to make sunglasses we had them checked by an licensed optometrist. They weren’t correct. The licensed shop also quoted me half the price for the exact same glasses. Wound up having to file a dispute with the credit card company and got my money back. I would avoid this place, and get the job done correctly and cheaper.

Although I wasn’t able to find the frames I wanted (I’m 6’5″ and I have a larger than average head) they were very friendly and helpful, so I recommended them to my spouse who did find some frames that she liked that fit well. The Rx came back with one eye not correct, which made it impossible for her to see, so they had them redone, had to do this twice more, and after talking over the problems thoroughly, it was determined to be that prescription obtained from the eye doctor had the error. These folks were very patient and accommodating, simply great customer service. And her frames are nice too!
