Savory Scones.
Tracy had me when she said kalamata olive and scone in the same phrase. Just about thought I’d died and gone to heaven.
It’s a funny thing how you find great little places like this. I’d been in the post office up in Charlotte quite a bit lately. I can be chatty sometimes. So I got to talking to one of the women there, and she said I should check out the bakery across the street.
A few days later I did just that. And I’m so glad I did.
This little bakery is GREAT.
I met the owner, Tracy, and she made several suggestions for me based on what they still had in the baskets. Hangover biscuits (these muffin like masses of biscuit filled with egg, cheese, and chive — maybe sausage if you’re lucky). And then the assortment of savory scones made me do happy dance. I of course went with the olive ones, because I can’t turn down an olive. But there were others bacon and cheese… and some sweeter varieties. But this is the kind of scone I think of when I think UK. Yum.
I’m pretty sure they take orders. There was a Christmas menu to order from and it all looked delicious. I hope I have a trip to the post office in my future. It’ll give me an excuse to stop in again. Or maybe I’ll just go because I can. No excuse needed. Can’t wait!

We stopped at Kneads and Wants for the first time this past weekend. My suggestion is that you take advantage of this fantastic bakery while it is still in Charlotte. This kind of sophisticated baking is destined for Park Avenue. I particularly loved the lemon tart with a wonderful crust and swirled cream on top. So enjoy while you can and maybe they will stay longer!

I have family around the corner and have stopped here a few times on my way over before Sunday dinner. Get here early in the day because they sell out quickly. I’ve had their bread which was fantastic. Though, mostly I’m picking up a dessert. Everything had been delicious. Their cookies, cakes and pies are amazing.
The last time I stopped in I purchased something that looked like a pie, but it was called something else. It had a pie crust, but it was filled with a solid chocolate that turned to a pudding like texture after you purposely let it sit out. Everyone loved it.
All their cookies are great, but the Christmas cookies might be my favorite.
Their scones are pretty great too. I like my scones sweet, but they do make a hangover breakfast one if you’re looking for savory.
Like I said, get there early if it is a Sunday and check their website for hours of operation because they are only open Wednesday to Sunday.
I think one of the owners has a gingerbread house on display at the George Eastman House.
After I went back and re-​read this review, I thought it sounded a bit like a commercial. I think it’s because my family who lives around the corner are really rooting for these ladies and their small business to be successful, so others will come to the area. Plus, these ladies are super nice and putting a really great local product. Who can’t get behind that?

Amazingly yummy baked goods. Excellent customer service. Consider me a regular. My honey and I love this place.

Stellar bakery. The city has needed a bakery such as this for a long time. The gravy and sausage hangover biscuits are off the hook as well as the other fillings they offer surrounded by a HUGE biscuit. Today it was the sage and roasted grape scones. CRAZY good. Both Tracy and Alex are really friendly women with incredible customer service skills. Always quick with a joke or a smile, whatever you need. The Ciabatta bread is a meal in itself and tastes excellent and stays soft for days. So forget the other bakery’s and check them out for all your bake needs be it an awesome wedding cake or some crazy cookies or cupcakes. You can’t go wrong with choosing this bakery. BTW excellent coffee as well.

I was brought these as a gift, so I can’t say much about the décor of the bakery. From taste it seems I received 4 mini-​vanilla cupcakes, two topped with berry-​butter cream and two with espresso, and I’m guessing the larger, square cupcake was what Kneads and Wants lists as their carrot and parsnip sugarcube topped with cream-​cheese frosting. This accurately describes what I consumed. I couldn’t tell there was parsnip in this, but I could definitely tell it was carrot cake topped with cream-​cheese. This was my favorite as I found it the moistest and I’m not such a fan of butter cream, but the other cupcakes were good as well: bite-​sized, all the flavor was in the frosting, but the butter-​cream flavors were crisp and defined. I could taste the freshness of the berries and I knew right away when I was consuming the sepia topped cupcake that it was coffee-​based.
I’d definitely try more baked goods from this place.

This bakery in Charlotte packs a serious taste punch. Try there ‘hangover biscuits’ which are stuffed with eggs, cheese and sausage and have a delicious flakey top. I also enjoy their varieties of scones. The staff is always warm and friendly and the store has local street art decorating the walls.
Definitely worth a drive down to the beach for a morning biscuit and coffee.

Delicious and unique treats! We got a vanilla cupcake with chocolate ganache, a chocolate chip cookie, and an anise corn muffin. We went half an hour before they closed (on their opening day), so not too much was left.
The interior of the bakery is awesome. It is a mix of vintage and industrial with a huge mural on the wall. Since today was opening day, it was fairly empty inside with one sitting area, but the staff said they will be adding more seating. This will be a great place to hang out. They also said they will have WIFI.
The staff at Kneads + Wants were really friendly. We will definitely be going back! Glad there is now a place like this in the neighborhood!!!
