Groove Juice Swing

I go to Groove Juice’s weekly Wednesday night dances. They are awesome and all the lead members take turn being DJ. Over the past year I’ve met tons of new people. It’s a safe friendly environment and everyone dances together, beginner or expert. Admission is only $ 5 and the first time is free. Admission is also free if you bring a first timer. There is a free beginner lesson at 9pm. Social dancing is every Wednesday 8:45 — 11:00pm at the Highland Hall 3^rd floor ballroom! Come join us!

This review is primarily for their Cardio Charleston dance/​fitness classes. I have been going for a few weeks now and love it. The workout is from 6−7pm on Tuesdays. It’s $ 7 a class or $ 35 for pass (buy 5, get one free). Huge bang for your buck in terms of price for a fitness class.
I must first say that my skills in the dance department are limited, I have the hardest time following the steps and often go left first when everyone is going right. It’s a mess and pretty amusing, but hey I can laugh at myself and move on. Anyway, just in the few times I’ve been doing it, I’ve gotten used to certain moves and the practice does help. The point is, try the class out even if you fear embarrassment or don’t think you’ll be able to keep up. Stand in the back and remember that we were all in your shoes once (or at least I was).
I absolutely love this workout because you’re moving non-​stop for an hour. They start with some warm up moves, then stretching, then the core of the workout, then cool down, and stretch. It’s amazing cardio and great for your legs and calves. The instructors, Doriel and Rebecca do a really good job offering modifications or advanced moves to fit your skill level and they’re easy to follow along. It’s great if you don’t like a typical gym workout. The hour goes by so fast and you really get your sweat on. I feel great (and sore) every time.
Groove Juice also performs, hosts Lindy Hop dances, and teaches swing dance lessons. They run the gamut. Find what you like and give it a whirl.
