Start off with the friendly staff and amazing food. They have some of the best pizza in the City & their Meatball & Philly are phenomenal.

The food and service were good. Unfortunately, they have closed their doors for good.

I checked out the U-Genes next to the airport one Thursday, as I noticed they have all you can eat pizza from 10am –2pm. The website says the price is 6.99 but when I arrived, the sign says 7.99. I didn’t complain, just an observation that they either don’t update their websites with current info/prices or else they have different prices at different locations. Regardless, the inside of the place is really small, they have a few tables, but those were occupied. They also have diner type seating around the outside of the walls, with stools. I walked up and paid, and since they didn’t have any new pizza out at the moment, only had option of pepperoni and cheese. So grabbed a couple slices and sat down. Pizza was really good, not as greasy as other reviewers had lead me to believe. But it was definitely New York Style pizza where you fold it over and eat it, as the crust is not firm enough to hold up to eating it any other way. After I finished, I went back up and there were some other options. Hamburger and Onion and Sausage and Jalepeno. I tryed them both, and was impressed by the flavor. This place is not somewhere that you would want to take your family for lunch, but it is a great place for lunch if you don’t mind the crowded spaces, and sort of hole in the wall truck stop type feel.

Good New York style pizza. very much little hole in the wall place. Prices are very reasonable. Great place to drop by and grab a pie on the way back to the hotel or home

Several years ago, I had the misfortune of living in Riverside(it was technically a sliver of KCMO that bordered Riverside, but I digress) and outside of the Red-X, Corner Café, and that huge QuikTrip, U-Gene’s was the only other redeeming establishment in the area. Housed next to what I’m sure is an upstanding laundromat that isn’t shady in the least bit, sits the modest U-Gene’s. Built obviously for lunch eaters on the go and likely decorated by a descendant of Helen Keller, U-Gene’s offers up a menu of various sandwiches and pizza. I cannot speak to any of their sandwiches, but I can speak to what is the best East Coast-style, fold over, cheese pizza in KC. U-Gene’s cheese pizza Is the most copacetic combination of slightly doughy crust, gooey sauce, and firm with a slight pull cheese that I’ve found in the area. There is just enough herb presence to give their slice a high end feel, despite the $ 10 for a large Friday Night Special price tag. The mouthfeel of the dough, sauce, and cheese together is something out of a Greg Louganis daydream making this hands down my favorite pizza in KC. A word of advice though, this pizza doesn’t travel particularly well and is best eaten within 10 – 15 minutes after it is boxed to experience optimal flavor explosion. With that in mind, 2 years ago, I moved from Riverside to Brookside, leaving me at the mercy of Minsky’s, Pizza 51, and Waldo Pizza. All good pizzas I know, but not the U-Gene’s I grew to love. So yesterday in an effort to maximize my wife’s Valentine’s Day, I decided to take a chance, a chance on our favorite pizza. I drove 30 minutes out of my way to lowly Riverside and picked up a large cheese pizza from U-Gene’s to go. I drove it 30 more minutes through rush hour traffic back to Brookside where I immediately got my oven fired up to 200 degrees then killed the heat. With the awesomeness of my U-Gene’s large cheese pizza on life support, I rushed to get the pie on a pizza stone and threw it in the oven. 30 minutes later when my wife arrived at home, I pulled out my U-Gene’s large cheese pizza from the still warm oven and voilà, it was perfect, like a triangular piece of heaven. So, here’s to finding that perfect slice of pizza and doing whatever it takes logistically or molecularly to keep it in the rotation.

I grew up in Philadelphia and am very picky about good pizza. This is the BEST pizza I have had in the midwest. I can eat it with cheese only, family likes toppings, but it is all good. Thin crust, great sauce… I ask for heavy sauce, extra cheese and I am in heaven with the thin slices. Fold them over, let the grease drip a bit from the cheese… just like back east :)

You’ve got to get behind a place that chose«mean grandpa» as a marketing strategy. This is my A plus, #1, super awesome, awesome, location to go to for a big olé melty, mouthwatering, massive sandwich that would make subway Jared fall off the wagon. The ingredients are always fresh. I don’t know where they get their tomatoes but I want in on it. My usual is the smoked turkey and pepper jack, heated in the pizza oven. It doesn’t *sound* so ground breaking but its the ingredients that MAKE it. I tried to stop there today but I underestimated their patriotism, as they were closed for Presidents Day. This location is also closed on Sundays which I’ve begged them to reconsider. The guys are super polite here and I’ll go any day they are open for this sandwich treat.

Nice little place to stop for a quick lunch in the Riverside area if you don’t mind a little grease. They serve an assortment of hot sandwiches and pizza by the slice(or whole). Eugene’s has another location near the airport and a mobile truck that pedals the food in front of area businesses. The food is nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done. They usually have a daily special, which is a sandwich, side and a fountain drink. Their sides consist of chips or a variety of pasta salads and the like. Each main item is good but could be better. The Philly Cheesesteak needs more cheese. The pizza needs severe grease removal via napkin if you’re the type of pansy who does that. The meatball grinder could grind your insides less.
