Old place with bent, dirty mini blinds at the front door should alert potential patrons to the caliber of this business located in a small strip mall with a drive-​thru liquor store nearby. Eyeglasses broke within 30 days of buying them — metal hinge came out of temple in which it is embedded — cheap junk. Asked Mother to drive to Riverdale so staff could view broken eyeglasses in person (required by them) since I had to go to work & had no backup glasses. Mom drove in rush hour and it took her more than an hour since smartphone GPS gave confusing directions. She called the store to ask if they could wait a few minutes for her. Yes, will wait until 6pm. She asked for directions from where she was due to GPS issues (google GPS on smartphone) but no staff member could help. Arrived at store at 6:08pm — closed, nobody inside. So, Dad used epoxy glue to fix my piece-​of-​junk eyeglasses. I won’t return to this place with inconvenient retail hours & eyeglasses that break within 30 days. 1 star for the business but extra star since eye exam went well.

I have been having my eyes examined by Dr. Peterson for about 5 yrs now. She is the best! Very Personable. She will help you pick out your frames whenever she is available. The shop itself is rather small. Not many seats available if you have family members with you. I think the best time to schedule an appointment is thru the week. If that’s not available for you. She has Saturday hours. She seems to be pretty busy on that day though. Her staff is very friendly. I’ve never encountered anything less than that. My insurance usually covers the exam, frames and Rx. I do have high option though. They accept a variety of insurance. It’s best to call and see if they accept your insurance. It took about 2 weeks for my frames to come back and they look great. You also receive a nice case and cloth to clean your lenses with. I get an exam every year. I also drive back to this area because of the Dr. I would highly recommend..

I got my exam 2 years ago and it was borderline ridiculous. I was scheduled for a specific time but instead of taking me at the time I was scheduled for they decided to take someone else who arrived a half hour late to their appointment instead. No apologies no nothing.
Then I called to find out my prescription and instead of giving me the prescription they basically forced me to order the contacts through them. Unfortunately, I disposed of my contact lenses before writing down my prescription so once again instead of simply being able to call and reorder, they wanted me to come into the office to reorder.
I despise calling this place and going to them. They’re the epitome of unprofessional. I’ve since gotten a new eye doctor.

I took my son here for an eye exam and glasses. The doctor was patient with my indecisive son but they have a very limited selection of glasses. The inside is fairly small. Outside is tucked away so you would miss it if you don’t look hard enough.
His glasses arrived about 3 weeks later. I asked the guy if I needed anything when I arrived to pick them up and he said no, just come pick them up. I get there and after standing in line with one person in front of me for like 10 min the lady at the cash register ask me if I was there to pick up. I tell her yes, she takes my son name and tells me she is going to take care of it. Another guy walks up and ask me the same question I tell him I am there to pick up glasses and someone is already helping me. He proceeds to tell me I need a receipt to pick up blah, blah, blah by that time I’m irritated and telling him «that’s not what I was told when I got the pick up call… thank goodness the lady came back just in time and basically told him to mind his business she got this. LOL
Because of that pleasant and helpful lady I am giving this place 3 stars. Otherwise, I would have given it 2.

I went in for an eye exam this past week and couldn’t be happier with the result. Dr. Petersen was knowledgeable and friendly. She is an excellent listener and communicator and clearly cares about her patients. This is very different from other doctors I have visited who seemed more interested in selling glasses and contacts than in caring for patients. While I wasn’t too impressed by the location (a somewhat run-​down strip mall), the service was second to none.
A quick note: Mike T. wrote a 1-​star review last week but he appears from Brooklyn and all his other reviews are for businesses in New York. I wonder if he’s reviewed the wrong «Eye Maxx Optical?»

Save your vision benefits and go elsewhere.
Why? Lack of professionalism and terrible customer service.
Employees, don’t eat in the lobby or have personal conversations. When you say you’ll «call me when my prescription is ready,» don’t have me call you … every time. When I receive my trial lenses, don’t just hand me a pair of unmarked trial lenses (without a bag or bottle of solution). Give me trials with the exact prescription I need, not something that is «close enough.» Don’t quote me two different prices for what I have to pay out of pocket. Don’t say this is the best we can hope for after fitting a prescription that is identical to one from over two years ago.
Is this asking too much?
The whole trial lens process took 8 weeks — 8 WEEKS! — and the fitting still wasn’t perfect. So after all this time, I still have to go to another optometrist. BULL! Clearly being patient means nothing, as waiting on staff is almost required (staff do not wait on you as it should be). They do say «come back anytime or for anything» when you leave because once they process your benefits, they can care less about what quality of service you receive, and in return you’ll be visiting them multiple times to get it right — and that’s not a good thing.

Glasses are like shoes, you can never have to many!!! I was pleasantly surprised this little shop have awesome customer service, great selections and the best prices! A rare gem of a fine!!!
