I almost never eat fast food. We’ve all seen Fast Food Nation, and know the horrors of GMO and chemically enhanced food products… but when you live in a neighborhood that has little to offer by way of grocery stores or restaurants that are open late… it was a relief to step off the subway and into a Subway for a quick sandwich on the way home. You know the formula for Subway; choose a bread, a protein, toppings, dressing, etc… they assemble it, roll it up, and send you on your way. But what absolutely astounded me was how the conscientious(washed his hands before making the sandwich), considerate, engaged and personable they guy behind the counter was. I went so far as to ask about his training, he knew where I was going with my question and really opened up, he’s an owner and he understands customer service. Turns out Faisel is a cool dude, just trying to build a business in a neighborhood that can be as gritty and demanding as any in the five boroughs. I would not say that Subway is a restaurant, and this certainly isn’t a restaurant review, but as far as consumer experiences go, this was, surprisingly, one of the better ones in Ridgewood.
