I liked this place and was able to get hard to find ingredients as I try out Asian recipes. Clean; some good English signs as well and helpful people.

Sushi Deluxe for $ 20 is a steal. And I don’t need to go all the way to the bridge?!
I appreciate the fact that Yuji will be honest with the fish he has.
He will tell me if it’s good to buy or if it is better to hold off for another delivery.

I should have written a bigger review of this place ages ago. I used to go here weekly in Ridgewood when I would come back from work and want a snack to bring along with Chess at Bergen Chessmates. Good drink selection and an even better snack selection. I also should probably review again anyway since the other J. fishery (Uwomaru) closed.
The sushi here is excellent as well. I got eel sushi and salmon at one other point and the stuff here is quite fresh. The nice man occasionally is out of town in Japan to pick up more stuff so you know a lot of the stuff here is nice and fresh.
Of course Mitsuwa’s is better. But then again, compare the size and prices and well, I kinda prefer going here

I’ve walked past this place a few times and kept telling myself I should check it out and boy am I glad I did! Very cute small market with a decent selection of Japanese products… including a Hello Kitty section. They even have a small area in the back with a sushi chef ready to prepare it for you.

Good little shop! Not a large market but… for their size they have a good selection of Asian (mostly Japanese) foods. If you are in the area and need such things… definitely worth a visit.

Love this place. A fantastic, albeit smaller, alternative to making a trek out to Mitsuwa in Edgewater. A small, but decent selection of Japanese drinks, candies, and food stuffs.
However, the best reason to stop by here is for the sushi. It does not nearly reach the heights of great sushi that one might find in NYC, but for $ 15-​$ 20 takeout sushi, it really hits the spot and provides nice value. Also, not sure if this is a normal thing, but I got freshly grated wasabi with my sushi. A nice touch, considering it’s a bit out of the ordinary to actually get real wasabi instead of the usual fake stuff that you get anywhere but high-​end places.

Great authentic Japanese Market with little of everything. Place is small but very clean and organized. I love that I don’t need to go Mitsuwa for most things now. Plus the sushi and rolls made to order for take away are really good, perfect rice and perfect temperature. Amazing place!

Banzai! I am a closeted Japanophile, apparently, because I love this crazy Japanese market. Everything is miniaturized, including shopping carts; there are the weirdest-​flavored sodas you will ever find (kimchi Ramune, anyone?), strange matcha green tea ice-​cream sandwiches, and even Hello Kitty paraphernalia adorning the walls.
They even have fresh sushi available at certain hours. The sushi is as nature intended, too: cheap and chopsticks-​free. I eat all fast food with my hands.
In a word, Jmart is superb. Think Mitsuwa in Edgewater (the latter is a korean, though) — except smaller, quieter, and more authentic. I am going to binge on Fueru Wakame now.

The store itself is expected of a Japanese grocery store. Clean, good layout, and a courteous staff. It’s easy to spend a lot more than you intended walking into a store like this.
Partly because of what really gives this place a 5 star review: the sushi and sashimi.
The chef is a veteran, point blank. You immediately notice his skill level by how good his rice is. I seriously had to think, «what is this guy doing in a small spot like this?» But I’m sure many of his customers are extremely happy that he chose to come to J-​Mart, as am I.
The cuts and portions are also generous without being obnoxiously big. I have yet to experience fish that is too fresh or too old. The quality is very consistent.
If you enjoy no frills quality sushi, this is a nice neighborhood gem for you.

Great little market, the prices aren’t too bad, great selection for the small size. It’s also noticeably clean, it doesn’t feel like a food market, it feels like a boutique.
You could easily get every ingredient for a meal, and even a few kitchen gadgets.
I was craving ramen, so I came here and picked up 3 bags of fresh ramen (with soup mix) 1 soy, 1 tonkatsu and 1 cold dipping. It came out to like $ 2 a serving, which is awesome. I wanted to add a few items to my meal so I picked up a small container of wakame and package of mushrooms. They also carry really cool Japanese beverages, a sweet coffee with milk in a can was awesome.
I didn’t realize until I was about to leave that there is a full take out sushi menu, with awesome items (sea urchin, fatty tuna) as well as your run of the mill choices.
In the frozen fish section they also carried the ever so popular fish collars, specifically tuna.
I really like this place, it’s in a great location, with decent hours, and a great selection of items.

Great market. Great stop for Sushi freshly made! Also great to get some of those unusual cooking needs.

Japanese Grocery Items Convenient Well Stocked Take Out Sushi Bar
A welcome addition to Ridgewood this specialty store stocks a good variety Japanese food stuffs and some health conscious Japanese imported goods. The store is immaculate and well laid out, staff is friendly and helpful and the sushi bar has a nice selection of quality fish at reasonable prices. I really like the direction Ridgewood is heading with this being the second Japanese grocery to open in this diverse villages shopping district. Lucky to have Ridgewood Fisheries (Uwomaru) that has been in business for over twenty years and now J Mart (less than a year) all a short drive away.

When Family Mart in Waldwick, NJ closed down, I had no where but Mitsuwa to obtain my Japanese cooking and snacking supplies. That would mean driving 30 minutes to 60 minutes. Luckily when Family Mart closed down, they left a sign recommending that Family Japanese Market would open up in Ridgewood. About 1 and ½ years passed by, then it finally opened up. It may be unfair to compare Family Japanese Mart to Family Mart, but having it so good in comparison to the option I have now proves my disappointment.
Family Japanese Market has parking, but it is on a crowded and metered street, unlike Family Mart which had an actual large parking lot.
Family Japanese Market staff does not greet you or say goodbye when you enter or leave. Family Mart would greet you and say goodbye and thank you in Japanese whether you would make a purchase or not.
Family Japanese Market is smaller and stocks less of a selection. Family Mart was about 4 times bigger and offered everything I needed.
Family Japanese Market is priced 5%-10% higher than Family Mart. Family would grant me a free gift if purchasing over $ 10, and would make sushi and fresh fish purchases half priced if purchased after 5pm.
I use to make purchases of Japanese products every week. I now do not even bother coming to this establishment in favor of stopping by Mitsuwa once every few months. I sorely miss Family Mart and wish they would re-​open since the building they were formerly housed in still remains available.
