Description

Specialties

At Habitat for Humanity, we not only offer safe, affordable homes; we offer hope. By facilitating homeownership, families can break the cycle of poverty, which goes a long way to building a better future for multiple generations. At the same time, building homes for families in need strengthens community bonds while improving the communities in which we work and live. By coordinating and working with dedicated volunteers and community partner corporate sponsors, families are able to move into houses they help build themselves – allowing them to truly have a place they can call home.

History

Established in 1986.

Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 as a non-profit, Christian housing ministry. Since its inception, Habitat has helped build over 400,000 homes for more than 2 million people around the world.

The Richmond chapter joined the affordable housing effort in 1986. Since then, we’ve built more than 300 homes. Along with our partner families, generous volunteers and donors, we have restored the hope and dignity that poverty housing often strips away.
