Groome Transportation

Horrible drivers and no accountability.

I really liked the drivers that work for this company. Some of them are retired military so they really enjoy talking with soldiers who are willing to talk and will treat you really well. I got TJ and Randy to take me to and from the Richmond Airport. Had a great time with both.
Now the actual service? Well, my scheduled days were 1 day off. The pickup at the airport and the drive to the airport upon exit. I managed to fix the return trip so there wasn’t an issue but the same day that I was arriving, I call the company to confirm my pickup and am told there will be someone there waiting for me. Yeah, there wasn’t. TJ was there but to pick up someone else and he was nice enough and worked it out that he ended up taking me to Ft. Lee.
So just reconfirm if you book with Groome. And the trip was $ 28 from the airport to Ft. Lee so very reasonable to me. They also drive you in Priuses!

There is no style… If you want late, discourteous service, call Groome. I specifically requested that the driver be on time for my RIC pickup; my dad was having his 91^st birthday party. Yet, the driver was 35 min late. He showed me his previous trip-​to and from Ft. Lee, VA, 45 min earlier making it physically impossible for him to meet me on time. When I called «Deborah,» the boss, to ensure they would not be late on the return, she didn’t bother to return by call. They ARE cheaper than James River and Tidewater but ya get whatcha pay for… Never again.

I have used Groome at least 10 times over the years and they always were punctual and courteous.

They left our 2 students stranded at Richmond Airport at midnight stating they could not find their reservation on one occasion. Unfortunately, I attempted to use them again and they did not pick the students up on time making them miss their flight home for Christmas! FIND an alternate company!

I took a Groome shuttle from Dulles Airport to Richmond, VA. The flight was supposed to get in at 7:07 PM. I sighned up for the 9:00 Shuttle. My flight arrived at Midnight due to awful weather. I called Groome repeatedly to update them and they kept saying «Don’t Worry. We will meet you.» They did!!! What service! I didn’t have the cash for the tip the driver deserved! I did manage $ 25%

Can I rate this less than one star?
Let me tell you why– First, the driver 30 minutes late to pick us up from the airport. Then, the driver drove 60 miles per hour in 45 miles per hour zone. Finally, the driver did not not know directions to the Williamsburg Lodge (!) –Thankfully another rider and I were able to pull out our iPhones and give him directions.

I had a similar experience to Dusty’s. The airport pickup was fine, but when I needed to head back to the airport at 5:30 in the morning, nobody showed to my hotel. The associate at the hotel front desk called to see if they were running late, but was told that they didn’t have any pickups scheduled today. I made my reservations to and from the airport at the same time and have my confirmation e-​mail for both, so I don’t understand what went wrong. I was told by the same hotel front desk associate that Groome Transportation frequently «forgets» to pick people up, which may have been why he offered to call for me so quickly. Ridiculous.

I’d give 1 star, but I’ve had good experiences with Groome in Atlanta and Athens, GA. My experience in Richmond, however, has been the absolute pits. They stranded me at the airport at 1:00 in the morning, claiming to have no record of my reservation (which I’d made days before and also called twice to confirm) and they had no drivers to come and pick me up. I can understand that mistakes happen, and it wasn’t the end of the world as I got another cab — but the dispatcher’s attitude was midway between apathetic and hostile. Never again, Groome — never again.
