My favorite place in Richmond — what’s not to love? Great selection, friendly staff, good atmosphere — ignore the other two bodegas with bogus $ 5 card minimums in the area, this is your spot. Welcome home.

Patterson Express is a great stop for convenience items and beer. For a locally owned shop there’s a great selection of imported beers and microbrews. After going to a beer festival and finding a new favorite, Bluegrass Brewing Co. Bourbon Barrel Stout, I was stoked to find it at Patterson Express, right around the corner from my apartment! There’s also frozen foods, ice cream and all your typical convenience store goods. Taylor, the owner, is usually there and he’s very friendly with an adorable dog. I’ve also heard that if there’s a beer you want and he doesn’t have it, he’ll try to get it in. It’s a great corner store with a local personality.

Excellent beer selection of both the high– and low-brow variety. Not a chain, so bits and ends are mixed up in this convenience store, which caries both the usual and necessary goods. I’ve heard there was a creepy guy working there, but since he’s gone now, it’s run by far nicer folks. Gets a bit more of a rating than the nearby Kramer’s Market, if only because it’s location is closer to other things such as an animal care place, and more things off Sheppard Street(7 – 11, China Panda, The Black Hand, etc.).

Looking for Delirium Tremens beer, micro brews, or American Spirits? This is your place. It’s private owned, so don’t expect a corporate convenient store. The place is dog friendly and the owner has the cutest hound pup!
