MGR MUFFLER

So i came here to get my resonator and muffler removed and i spoke to the main guy that was doing the work in the garage. He didn’t speak any English so he started yelling at the lady with the blonde hair to talk to me. We discussed the price for 300 to get the resonator and the muffler removed. I decided to just do the resonator for 90 and told him i will return back to remove the muffler for 210. He removed the resonator for 90 and i guess he did a decent job. i came back to the shop to get my muffler removed and again he yelled for the blonde lady to talk to me. For some reason he up the price to 250. I questioned the blond hair lady, why is he charging me so high now? he started blurting things out in Spanish and said it was too much work and it will take 3 hrs to do. Is this guy bi polar! i don’t know what his problem is but i felt he was giving better customer service to those that speak Spanish. Anyways a good friend of mine found a spot that will remove my muffler for 180. Sometimes local shops aren’t the best options…

MGR took great care of me when I needed to get new Catalytic converters on my 1995 BMW M3. It wasn’t their fault that California Air Resource Board changed the model of catalytic converter that my car needed, but they took care of me promptly and for a great price. I will definitely be going back.

top notch quality and excellent fit and finish, they installed a straight pipe on my scion xb and even painted part of the pipe to match my stinger tip. the welds are top notch, they’re very friendly and provide free estimates with top quality customer service! this the place you NEED to go to first!

I have been bringing all of my cars to Mel’s over the years and have never been disappointed! They always treat me well, expertly pinpointing exactly what the car needs, giving an honest evaluation and then delivering on both price and getting the job done RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. I recently brought my 1963 Volvo pv544 into the shop and they did a first-​rate job on welding a stainless steel tip on to my tailpipe which gave my classic car a cool and impressive finishing touch!

For a simple job I was quoted a ridiculous amount, of 460 just for bending and welding! Went to another reputable muffler shop, was charged less than a ¼ of the amount I was quoted by Mel and Sons (Jesus err whatever).
His «welds» are pretty comical and depressing. So much splatter and cracking. He proudly showed me his welds, claims he can bead them, and they were pathetic, wouldn’t last through any stress. There was zero beading, just splatter.
He compared his «welds» with who he claims to be his «local competitors welds» (that he probably welded) which were horrid. Typical tactic to make his «welds» look not as bad to the ignorant eye of a consumer.
This guy will try to take advantage of you, he tried with me. Luckily I go into every shop «playing dumb» to see if they pull this kind of stunt so I can judge there character, which reflects their craftsmanship.
I’ve been working on cars all my life, so I’ve been around plenty of welding, and plenty of money, and these guys will take your money and give you ¼ a$$ed work in return.
All these other people that rate this guy 5 stars have no clue what they are talking about.
Do. Not. Support. This. «Business».
It would have been cheaper for me to buy my own $ 200 dollar welder, and do my own terrible welding, I would save an estimated $ 260 bucks!
I think the best part was, before he gave me an estimate of nearly $ 500 dollars for 4 welds, and 2 slight bends, he stated «we’re a business». What a joke.

Took my 97 mitsubishi eclipse spyder for a muffler change, they did an awesome job in a fair amount of time… they a very knowledgeable and honest, prices are good. Definitely will recommend this place to friends and family.

I live in a nice are but lately the street I love on near the new target has been high in vandalism in what this year has started .
My neighbors car has been stolen twice and he had his catalytic converter stolen. We’ve requested the police to enforce police patrolling because it’s getting nasty. Only a few weeks back my neighbor saw a guy looking at my Honda oddysey, he even went under the car with a flashlight, my neighbor turned the porch lights out and hit the door to scare him, and he walked off to a car with a person waiting for him. The following morning, he told me to get it checked out because he does not know if these people came back. I took it to Mel and Son Mufflers, and my van was raised in their very cool Lifts! And I got my Caty checked out. He looked at it and no thank good they didn’t do anything to it. I am going to get it welded next time I come since the vandalism is getting a lot higher !!! And if these lowlifes get a hold of my Caty I know where to come for an honest service.

Words can’t express how happy we are with the installation and service. Julian and Jesus’ professionalism and expertise are to be commended. In and out in an hour and a half, good prices, outstanding quality, and pride of workmanship! My Z71 sounds like a dream!

Was able to call in to get a quote and took my car in 20 minutes later to get a new catalytic converter. Didn’t take too long to get it done and had some pretty good customer service. Only downside was that they don’t accept credit/​debit cards which was an inconvenience. Would’ve been nice to have known before I went. Other than that I would definitely recommend this shop! The price was great as well, less than half of what I got quoted at a different place.

Came in yesterday to get my 61 falcon a new muffler. These guys were on it. One of them had taken ownership of the business recently and man he was good. He made a new exhaust pipe to route up under the car as to not scrape. In total it took around an hour and I was on my way. There is a nice little coffee shop a few stores down that has food and coffee for while you’re waiting.
The car runs great and sounds sooo much better.

After finding Mel & Sons on Unilocal I wanted to give them a try based on their great reviews. I was not disappointed! Gus, the owner was amazing. He took me for same day service to install a new exhaust system on my 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 Quad-​cab Dually. Wasn’t sure if he could accommodate my huge truck, but he did with no problem! Fast fast service, very clean work. I would highly recommend them. They apparently do full service work to, not just exhaust. Thanks again guys! Great job!

Gus and Ron took care of me. I took my 65 Mustang to Mel & Sons to have a complete exhaust system installed, this was actually a bit nostalgic because over 20 years ago I brought the first Mustang I ever owned, 68 mustang, to get the exhaust done. The ownership has changed but the integrity and detail to work has not. Gus told me it would take a while which I was completely fine with having set aside the day for this purpose. Moreover, I appreciated that during most of the install both Gus and Ron were collaboratively working on the install. They never said anything when I occasionally stuck my head under the car or took pictures of the install. My son got to enjoy the experience with me and we anticipated how the car would sound based on the previous exhaust having a gaping hole that was poorly patched by the previous owner. Upon initial start the interior of the car was very quiet, as I hoped. The mufflers and pipes were tucked tight against the body, in a very professional fashion. Gus takes pride in his work and it shows. My expectations were exceeded and I look forward to bringing my fastback to get the exhaust done.

Gus took care of a loose heat shiel by my y-​pipe, and at a great, great price! I’ll be going back to him when I’m ready to upgrade my exhaust system and for any exhaust issues I have.

I give them 10 stars! They are very friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. I was freaking out about the price of a catalytic converter but it turned out to be very affordable!!! I definitely recommend them, and I plan to continue doing business with them. Thanks Gus, Mel & Sons!

Gus the Owner and his two employees are great guys with a killer work ethic and true artisans at what they do best.
When I say art, hanging and plumbing a muffler system really takes a lot of talent, let alone lay down some serious, clean welds.
Most of all they listened to what I wanted and made it happen. Gus is a stickler for having things perfect. Of course I liked that and it showed in the end product.

Mention Unilocal and they’ll cut 10% off! It’s cool because you get to watch them work on your car. I had my muffler replaced which took about 45 mins and $ 140. A job well done.

Mel & Sons Muffler is a RIP OFF!!! The old fat guy is rude as hell and they are way overpriced! They were trying to charge me $ 300+ just to run custom piping from the cat back for my exhaust. I asked him if he can run it from the header back and he said he couldn’t even do it!
I went to Muffler Works in Albany and only got quoted for $ 140 from them! Wayyyyy better deal. He also said they can run the piping from the header back for me if I want! The guy that works there is also wayyy nicer and much more helpful!
