Merchant’s Tire & Auto Centers

Took my car in for a flat tire and came out with them saying I needed a $ 900 repair for leaking struts. Got two second opinions, both of which said there was nothing wrong with my struts.
Sounds like everyone is saying the same thing: don’t go here unless you’re knowledgeable about cars or else they will absolutely try to take advantage of you.

I had seen the poor reviews of this place, but I gave it a shot for their $ 20 oil change. Sure enough, solid 2 star service. I thought I’d right a review anyway, though, since there were only 9. Technician straight-​up lied to me about rotating the tires (I marked them before I pulled into the lot) and then tried to explain how tire rotation really isn’t necessary anyway, unless tires already show significantly uneven wear. (Scary to have someone like that working on your car.) I confirmed they did, in fact, change the oil. Bottom line: only utilize their services if you are already very well-​informed about your vehicle. Then again, if you are, you should probably just be doing it yourself.

Had a 19.99 oil change done on ¹²⁄₂₉ everything was done properly. I checked after to be sure that the oil pan screw was back in tightly and that the filter was changed. All of that was done. I am satisfied with the service provided.

Absolutely horrible. Seem nice at first, but will day things are wrong with your car that are not. I brought my cat in for an oil change and I received a call later that day explaining that the oil pan plug had completely stripped out at such an angle that the pan had to be replaced, no other fixes such as a double or triple size plug, piggy back plug, or toggle bolt would do the job. After some research, I took the car to a competitor nearby. The competitor was able to fix the problem without replacing the whole part and said that the whole part never needed replacing. This competitor told me to never take a car to this particular merchants tire, as they are known for this kind of thing. Stay away!

Last Sunday I called the merchant tire store near regency square mall the store at 8820 occasion road in Richmond, VA and asked do they give free estimates for value cover gasket leaks/​issues, the technician that answered the phone that afternoon said yes so I was ready to drop my 1996 jeep Cherokee off for this same estimate on the following Tuesday afternoon. So I went in on my lunch break and after standing around for 15 minutes was informed by the manager a Danny Cooke that I was misinformed about the estimate and it would cost me $ 40 dollars instead and other then that he refused to do any thing about the issue other then to give me his business card and said come back when I was ready. So I went back to work and was written up for being late and put on probation at my job.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would in a heartbeat! First there customer service is HORRENDOUS! They don’t make you feel welcomed or as if they even want to help you.
I brought in my car because the check engine light came on and it was breaking down. First they charged me $ 100 just to take a look at the car. For 4 engine coals and 4 spark plugs later I was sitting at $ 850!!! My car broke down less then a week later! Took my car to a difference dealer and they told me they didn’t install one of the spark plugs properly! Please DO NOT GO HERE even if it’s your last option! Trust me they will rip you off

They were extremely polite and fast, though the same problem other reviewers noted was present here as well: ridiculous overpricing.
I was told my flat tire could not be patched, so I had to get a new one (believable, since the thing they pulled out of my tire was huge). This was Saturday, so they told me they would hold my busted tire (an entrapment, though I didn’t think about this then) until Monday when they would call for the replacement tire cost and call me back. Monday rolls around and I still haven’t heard from them by 1:30 pm, so I call and they say sorry, we forgot. No problem, I’ll wait. They call me back and quote me about $ 60 more for the replacement than I was anticipating paying based on the actual tire’s cost. I mention my price research and they INSTANTLY «price match» my researched cost of what it should be. Interesting.
They put the new tire on while I wait and it works very well. I got saved by my research here, but WORD TO THE WISE: research what it ought to cost before agreeing to pay their prices. They are notorious for high-​balling everyone who walks in their doors. If the price is too high, walk away. Plenty of competition for car repair in this area.

Rear brake pads for my civic installed are $ 119 at meineke. I was just quoted $ 279 by this garage. Even if I didn’t have a previous quote, every one knows that new pads for two wheels does not run $ 279. Stop taking us for idiots! They don’t deserve even one star, but I wanted to warn y’all…

Wish I could give zero stars. Incredibly rude, over priced, arrogant assholes. Do NOT go here.

Came in for an oil change that should have cost my friend $ 40 tops. It ended up being over $ 60 and they didn’t even fill up the car’s wiper fluid or place the sticker in the car window. They were quick to make suggestions on various things that «needed» to be done ASAP or the car would break down. Brought the car to a trusted source to look at and was told the car has at least 12 months before any repairs should be made. Plus, why would I trust them to make major repairs when they are not competent enough to complete a normal and over priced oil change? Try and resist their sales pitch if you go or just steer away in general.

I do not trust this place and I warn you be extremely wary if you go here. I went in for a $ 17 oil change with a coupon and walked out $ 200 poorer after being told that I needed 2 new tires, a wheel alignment and a new car battery. I didn’t buy half the things they wanted and it turns out after getting second opinion that I didn’t need them at all. They also didn’t rotate my tires like the coupon said and didn’t check my tire pressure. This place is ridiculous! I’m actually not sure they did anything I paid them to do. I will never go back here.
