Boyer’s Ice Cream & Coffee

Everything I could want from a coffee shop! The atmosphere does me well. Also, ice cream.

Boyer’s is an amazing study spot because it has all the essentials: coffee, bagels, and ICE CREAM. If you need a long-​haul spot to get some work done, this is it. They have a huge space with plenty of large tables and a quiet atmosphere. Very friendly staff, and a lot of cute shops within walking distance.

It’s was a Monday, early evening and Kat and I needed a fix… that would be a sugar fix… ice cream & coffee and as it turned out, a cake fix. I must admit, at the time I wasn’t checking out the ice cream brand… I knew it looked good and it tasted just fine. The other reviewers will share the exact ice cream/​gelato. We discovered since Shyndigz was closed on Mon and Tuesday… their cake was available. So, we could have made a simple decision but we couldn’t, …and ordered all three, coffee, ice cream and cake… we were very relaxed, a table for two… and Boyer’s was a rather busy place that evening. At least 8 – 12 ppl. besides us. It’s large, it shares space w/​another business. You would most likely enjoy the not so rushed, but good afternoon/​evening delite. ;-)) pun intended.

What fun! I had no idea this place had even opened until Labor Day weekend, and in service of entertaining a friend visiting for the weekend, I said «let’s get some ice cream» and Unilocaled up this palace of frozen delights.
I dunno if they make their own ice creams, since most of what I saw on offer was Gelati Celesti, but hey … GELATI CELESTI! They also have a Shyndigz cake on offer daily, it appears. Two thumbs way up.

Boyer’s is great for the Libbie and Grove area. It offers the Gelati Celesti — the best ice cream in Richmond — and it’s way more conveniently located than the stores out in the west end. It’s clean and the kids working are friendly. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating also. And they are open late compared to other places in the area. Come here all the time!

Was very busy the night we went, so was very hard to hear inside. Thankfully, it was a beautiful night so we were able to eat outside. Oddly, there was ample seating out there but no trashcan. The ice cream was very yummy!

⁵⁄₅ stars for me here. What a gem of a place. Wow. I came here on a Saturday night after a big mexican dinner and although I didn’t have room for ice cream, I knew I needed to try some after seeing this place. First off, the place cannot be cuter. Outdoor seating, indoor seating, people everywhere, smiling kids everywhere… the place is your quintessential neighborhood ice cream place poster. We pulled up 2 tables outside and headed inside. We were greeted with happy faces offering sample spoons to try. A young girl behind the counter asked if we’ve been there before and then explained how they make the ice cream there and what the size differences really meant. There were tons of flavors and they ice cream and gelato! All of your regulars were on the menu but plenty of new fun seasonal flavors like pumpkin gingersnap or almond almaretto. They even had dairy free flavors like strawberry lemonade and and sour apple. Something for everyone! We had our few scoops and off we went. For anyone that knows me, they know which flavor I got… Mint Chip. It was really special. The ice cream was white, which I always prefer and the chocolate was huge chunks of dark chocolate. Really tasty. I will certainly be back and next time you are in Richmond, you should check this place out! Until next time…

I liked Boyer’s when it was at the old location but the new digs is a serious upgrade! I feel like I have to try every new flavor they have whenever I’m there but I do have some standout favorites. I love the german chocolate cake. It’s so rich and has huge chunks of cake in it. Decadent for sure. Whenever I have a craving for something lighter and summery, I go for half mango and half passionfruit. It’s tart and refreshing.
This is my summer hangout spot. There’s ample seating both indoor and outdoor if you wanna go with a group and the employees are always so funny and energetic. It’s on a row with other restaurants so this is the perfect place for dessert. Extra bonus, I saw a sign that stated they also have shingdigz cakes… must try next time

The ice cream here is really good, but it’s a little expensive in my opinion. The store itself is pretty large, located inside of a U of R study building. They’ll let you sample anything before you buy it. The portions are fairly small for the price you pay.

The gelato tasted ok. It’s inside of a Christian Study Center, strange.

It should be said that this is a Christian establishment. So if that makes you uncomfortable…
It was calm and quiet. We just had gelato, which, as many have said, is supplied by Gelati Celesti. The price is a litter higher here than at their shops, so if you’re coming here specifically for that, going to their original locations will save you some money.
Lots of comfortable seating, which is good for study groups or whatever.

This place is rather cute and clean. They have quite a variety of flavors as well as gluten free. They have a quiet study area in the back for University of Richmond students to use.
I got the coffee and cream and it was really good! My friend got oreo and that was rather good as well. But it was with chocolate ice cream instead of the standard vanilla ice cream.
Overall I would come back if I was in the area.

Adorable little ice cream shop that serves Gelati Celesti, Gelato along with Shyndigz Cake (Wed-​Sun). It’s nice not having to drive as far to get Shyndigz as we stopped going once they moved to their new location. The cake slices are smaller but also less expensive. We will definitely be stopping in again whenever we are down in the fan/​near West End/​Willow Lawn area for lunch or dinner.

Boyer’s is the best ice cream shop I’ve ever been to! Why, you ask?
First of all, I was floored by how huge the space is on the inside. I don’t know why, but every time I’ve passed Boyer’s I’ve envisioned it to be a tiny, quaint little hole in the wall that would be at capacity with 10 guests. Imagine my surprise when I open the door and a giant oasis was presented to me. I ordered my usual– a chai tea latte with almond milk. It was just alright… I’ve definitely had better in RVA but that didn’t deter me from enjoying the atmosphere and making myself at home.
The ice cream shop occupies the front half of the area with plenty of seating and friendly employees. In the back half, there is a lush study area mainly for U of R students but anyone can use it. I absolutely loved everything about that area from the lovely décor to the availability of space. The space has a library-​like feel to it without being so sterile. I used to hate studying in the library when I was in school and I still hate being there. However, with the addition of the couches, the area is more than comfortable and conducive to an all day stay. I should know, because I stayed there and worked for about 5 hours!
I went to lunch across the street then came back for my mid-​afternoon ice cream fix! I chose the white chocolate strawberry cheesecake flavored Palazzo’s Gelato. This was a life changing decision. I absolutely loved it. My mouth watered at the thought of having any of the available flavors. They all looked delicious! Another win for Boyer’s? Shyndigz Cake cheaper than it is at Shyndigz. Also– Gelati Celesti ice cream.
I love the Libbie and Grove area even more now that I’ve discovered Boyer’s! I’ll definitely be a regular.

Much more spacious than their old spot. I get great vibes coming into this ice cream parlor. I’ve tried numerous flavors, but my favorite is probably SALTED CARAMEL or BIRTHDAY CAKE. These are both GELATI CELESTI flavors.
The prices are on the higher side, but in my opinion, worth it. You’ll get a friendly face with a bowl (or cone) of decadent, creamy deliciousness.
Also, they serve cake from SHYNDIGZ. Need I say more?

I tried to stop by Boyer’s the other day, but it was closed (even though the Unilocal hours said open), so just make sure you check their hours elsewhere. I am however glad I was able to make it last night.
This is a cool place. They serve mostly Gelati Celesti Ice Cream — so just be prepared that they don’t make most of it on site. It is however GOOD ice cream. They also sell Shindigz cake at a fraction of Shindigz pricing. I’d likely stop here rather than Shindigz if I was feeling some dessert cakes.
The back of this place is a Christian study area? I’m not really sure, but it’s a nice place to sit and study /​work /​eat your ice cream.
The place was packed for a Tuesday night at 9:00 PM during the winter — so that means it must be a solid spot right? Prices weren’t bad, and like I said, a cool atmosphere.
I might not be back for ice cream (since Gelati Celesti is closer to me), but I might be back for cake or a quiet place to sit and get a coffee.

Great service and delicious food! My wife always gets Just Ask and I always get a coffee. Would recommend as a great place to chill out. Much better ambience than one of the bigger chain places.

Great ice cream and a family friendly environment. Love this place! Also be sure to check out the bagel sandwiches for breakfast. Homemade and absolutely delicious!

What a great ice cream shop! We hit the store just after the all-​girl school next door let out. The one guy working handled the line of 17 like a pro and we had our treats in no time!
Really great flavors– «just ask» (vanilla with oreos and peanut butter), toasted coconut fudge almond, coconut, cake batter, strawberry white chocolate cheesecake and many more!
