The instructors are great. I have been a student of Mr. Toomey and Mr. Coombs for many years. While I am twice their age, I appreciate their skill and dedication. I highly recommend them to anyone truly interested in putting in the time to lean Kenpo.

There are several good martial arts studios in Reno but we finally choose The Academy Martial Arts and we are VERY, VERY happy with our choice. There are several classes per week, plus a personal lesson. The instructors are extremely personable and knowledgeable. All of this together makes sure that the time spent at the studio is spent learning in a dynamic and fun environment. It’s hands-​on with lots of instruction and explanations.

I’ve wanted to learn karate ever since Daniel met Mr. Myagi in 1985 but my parents did the whole «No daughter of ours is going to get punched at by a bunch of…» So I waited until I was an adult and started classes on my own. I’ve been studying for over 7 years with Mr. Toomey and Mr. Coombs and you will not find more confident, level headed and experienced instructors in this city.
If you’ve been looking to learn karate for the first time, pick up your studies after taking some time off or you’ve been searching for a dojo for your kids to not only learn self defense but also character building skills, you’ve found it. The Academy is the only place to be!

I can’t say enough good things about these guys. The instructors are knowledgable, first class and this is a very well run school that is great for families. We have two kids in their program, they love it. The adults class is very good and a lot of fun as well a good workout. There is a wide range of skill levels that attend and they do a great job of keeping everone engaged and expanding their self-​defense skills. I would give six stars, if could.
