I give it none. I have a perfect condition Guess purse that I only used one day, it was over $ 100 when I bought it. Still brand new looking.
They said they take Guess purses, and I’ve seen it on their shelves. The girl told me the inventory in Guess purses is really high.
I called yesterday and asked if they take in Guess purses, she said yes.
Really stupid.
They took my brown couch bag that I paid $ 40 off of Craigslist, $ 15 is ok of how in bad condition it was. I’ll just have to do Poshmark instead, I’ll probably get more money out of it.

I love to shop here! It’s a financially smart & sensible healthy shopping experience. What I really like is that every item is a one-of-a-kind…for a few dollars… and that is awesome!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! I always get compliments on my outfits — a lot of which is purchased here. They have unique, one-​of-​a-​kind pieces — I like to call them treasures. All-​Saints, Free People, Lucky and many more fun, boho, and eclectic designers for such an affordable price. You MUST check it out!

What I love about this place is the fact that you can bring clothes in to them to see if they want to buy and resell your clothes. I’ve sold clothes to them a few times. There are a few employees who are kind when returning clothes, others seem to be snappy when they’re explaining why they’re not taking clothes. You don’t get as much as you paid for the items, but something is better than nothing. I do agree with other Unilocalers that the price they offer you for clothing is much lower than retail value and a rip off. I don’t know what sort of system they use to evaluate the clothing, but that may need an update or revamp.
As far as buying clothes from them, I’ve only done it once, I ended up buying a sweater and a pair of heels. The process was easy. Generally though I try to empty my closet rather than restock it. They always have a diverse selection of higher end brands (Whereas their sister store, Plato’s closet takes lower end {Target, Walmart etc} items). It’s always fun to look around while the employees look through the clothes you want to sell.
I do recommend them as a consignment shop to buy clothes from. Sometimes their racks are super full, so it does make it a bit difficult to shop. Other times their racks are relatively… well not empty exactly, but not full enough you have to shove hangers to look through them.

I have lived in Reno, the last ten years (SF transplant) In the beauty/​fashion business, high end retailers only, i.e.SAKS, Nordstorm, Neimans. When they first opened they gave fair prices to sellers with high end merchandise, now FORGET IT. And RENO is SO FAR BEHIND, the people that work there would not know current fashions if they slapped them in the face. Yesterday, took in last summers expensive black summer maxi dress, the girl say“well, the style, and fabric, are not current” ARE YOU SERIOUS?? YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE. She had to ask me what a pure linen duster was, she said to me well, how would you classify this? ITS A DUSTER girlfriend. But of course, when Tony worked there he said, your things are great but Reno doesn’t get it… no
add insult to injury, I had a brand new Dooney, they wanted to give me $ 16.00 for. I was like HUH? AVOID THIS PLACE, and list on E-​BAY, or consign, if you have high end merchandise.

This place needs to remember that they are in fact a thrift store ! I get that in order for them to make money is to buy items at the best possible price for resale. But seriously to offer 15 $ for 3 pairs of basically brand new Guess shoes that retailed for 125 $ each is just stupid and a little offensive. I run my own business and was appalled by the level of customer service here, rude from the start. I love a good deal and thrift store shopping, but I wouldn’t bother with this place or it’s sister store Plato’s next door. To the owner of these businesses — Please teach your employees the art of customer service and tell them to get down from their high horses.

wow, I was scared to go in there after reading all of these reviews! But I did finally. They have A LOT of stuff, can be good and bad, lots of choices but a little difficult to get through racks they are tightly stuffed! Both of the staff were busy while I was there but did ask if they could help me find anything and commented on the items I picked out, at check out had nice conversation with the gentleman helping out and he referred to good finds at Plato’s Closet as well. In the end I purchased 2 designer name items for $ 20 each and was very pleased with my experience, I will be back to shop!
I have also had experiences trying to consign clothes locally and being offended by what they would not take, but in the end, it shouldn’t be taken personally, it is business and I’m glad there is another option in town…

Went in to sell a Dooney purse I no longer use. They gave me close to what my preconceived idea on a price was so I sold it. Usually the stafff here is very stand offish & snooty. Really people you are working retail?! Staff this time was much friendlier but it was the younger people. They do not purchase any styles that are even slightlyold & your stuff has to be in primo condition, but that gives you better stuff to buy.

Oh Clothes Mentor… why do you have to be so far away?
In planning our trip to the Reno area, I knew my Bestie and I would want to hit some consignment shops. I had bookmarked several (thank you, Unilocalers) and had a plan of attack.
After having lunch across the street at Miguels, one of my bookmarks close by. I saw the sign for Clothes Mentor and we decided to stop in first.
Wow, I love this place. Amazing selection, great prices, nice service.
We didn’t make it to the original shop and even had to come back for a second visit before leaving town.
Honestly, this has been my fave consignment/​resale shop ever. If you live in the area, I’m jealous. Enjoy!

I stopped in just to browse on a weekday evening. I really did like their selection, and could have probably walked away with a couple of things if I truly came to shop instead of just check it out. I liked the selection of purses, and the pricing seemed fair. The associates were very friendly, and when I asked a specific styling question, she was able to give me some advice. I will come back, and get some basics when I have more time to really look.

I cleaned out my closet and after living in Europe for 10 years — I had some really different styles from Milano, Paris, Rome and many other Cities and countries to get rid of. I had brought in all my clothing CLEAN, PRESSED and DRY CLEANED. I entered and there was NO ONE in the store and I was greeted by a blonde woman and a guy, (who was VERY disinterested and nonchalant). The blonde went through the basket and oohed and awed over a couple of things and when she would hold them up for the guy, he would give a disgusted look, and she would put it back. NOW realize that Most (95%) of all the clothes were designer FROM EUROPE, which are very CUTE and STYLISH (not American type clothing) and I would think that customers would appreciate NEW designs and styles not found HERE, AND they still did not want them. I even had REAL D&G (Dolce and Gabbana) pants and capri’s and other european designers NOT found here in the U.S.
HOWEVER, I took them to a consignment shop in Carson City and THEY could NOT get enough of them. They really appreciated the Uniqueness of the styles and designs and TOOK EVERYTHING.
WHAT A PLEASURE to work with people who Appreciate REAL Style and Design.
So if you are looking for European designs GO to Carson City.

Selling clothes for gas money, yay unemployed couple!

I have been back several times and have found really cute clothes! My favorite jacket and shirts are from here.
I’m not sure why Unilocalers are complaining about the people who work there. They are super nice and funny. This isn’t Nordstrom so don’t expect them to wait on you like a princess.

Guy is super snobby, you’d think it’s dolce &gabbana store. Boy, this place and the staff’s attitude has changed dramatically. Sad

Im giving this place four stars despite what happened only because… Of customer service and the fairly cute selection of clothing and louis vuitton handbags.
My story is pretty funny. They tried to sell a fake gucci bag as real. The ladies need to do research on all brands not just one or two top notch brands and certain bags. I had to email them the info links and help them realize in their own store that the gucci bag was fake. If I was one of those fraud detectives (highly unlikely) they could’ve been fined heavily and store closed!
Anyways I still like the place but people who work their need to be much more knowledgable.

Today was the first time that I have visited this store. The selection was good — great brands, cute stuff. However, the customer service was terrible. I felt uncomfortable while I was browsing the store. I did buy a cute sweater, but probably will not go back due to the poor customer service.
This would be a great business if they could get their customer service under control.

I came here after purchasing a $ 20 Groupon. The store is very clean, but kind of crowded, so it’s hard to go through all the racks without your arms hurting from pushing the clothes really hard. Neither me nor my boyfriend were ever greeted or even given a polite «thank you, goodbye» to which was a little awkward considering I purchased an item and the lady just handed me my receipt, turned around and walked away without saying a word.
The first thing that caught my eye was a pair of Jessica Simpson wedges for $ 15, but they were a size 5.5 and a little too tight. The quality was very nice though, they definitely make sure to pick out clothing with very little damage. I noticed they had a lot of Coach, Bebe, Gucci, Banana Republic, and H&M which are popular name brands.
I perused through the racks of jackets, dresses, long sleeves, and blouses until I finally came across a gorgeous button up Bebe long sleeve with golden buttons and an attached belt for $ 25. Since I had a $ 20 voucher, I only had to pay $ 5 in the store plus the $ 10 I paid for the voucher, making this top only $ 15, which really is a steal considering it’s a mint condition Bebe top. I really love it, but I probably wouldn’t have ever paid the full $ 25 for it though.
3 stars for selection and prices, negative 2 stars for lack of customer service

All I can say is, Wow!!! I’m so excited that the Clothes Mentor has finally opened. I went in on Friday and bought a really super cute top for only $ 5. I wore it to a party last night and everyone loved it. When I told them where I got it and how much it was, they were all over that. They will definitely be going in for a visit. And what a perfect day you can have by going to sushi at the Sushi Pier 2 and then shopping to work off your meal. Sounds like a day of beauty to me!
I just love the idea of not having to buy clothes for full price. Buying things from the Clothes Mentor is like borrowing clothes from a good friend, but not having to give it back.

Talk about bad timing — I visited Clothes Mentor just a few days before they officially open for business! When we stopped by last weekend, they were still in the «buying» phase. You can bring your gently used, better-​name-​brand clothes and accessories to sell to them now, but you can’t buy any of the amazing stuff you see until April 14. Sigh.
The store’s name may make it sound a bit matronly or like somewhere you would go to buy a job interview outfit, but that’s definitely not the case! They have a great selection of beautiful dresses, skirts, shoes, and bags/​wallets for all seasons. I saw Ann Taylor, Nine West, BCBG, Coach, Burberry, Dooney & Bourke, and many more if you’re into name brands — plus a ton of stuff that was just cute regardless of maker.
They had a good range of REAL sizes (0 – 26, plus maternity) and the prices were very reasonable. I saw at least four adorable dresses for well under $ 20 that I would have happily bought off the rack then and there. Everything from casual sundresses to cocktail dresses to vintage pieces!
Clothes Mentor is located next to Plato’s Closet, and feels very much like its sophisticated older sister who has more money to spend on her wardrobe. If you find Plato’s Closet’s stuff to be a little too young/​skimpy/​cheaply made, I think you’ll find a lot to love at Clothes Mentor.
